Not sure how much deception is going on in these "screenshots." At the least, they are heavily supersampled. I haven't gotten around to playing Metro 2033 yet, but I know it has some impressive effects, so I suspect these won't be too far off from how Last Light can look on a high-end PC.

E3 2011 demo: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-20 ... ast/719879

Action starts around 2:30. I laughed at how there's tons of reverb on the guys' voices, but none on the gunshots.

More disgustingly good-looking screens (or at any rate "screens") here (though Worm's are even better):

Primarily interested in them because it means the game is still on track, what with THQ's bankruptcy and all. Would be a tragedy if it were scrapped.

Deep Silver today announced the release date for Metro: Last Light. The first person shooter and highly anticipated sequel to the extraordinary Metro 2033 will be available from May 14, 2013 within Northern and Latin America and May 17, 2013 across Europe for PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Windows PC.

“The new release date is the ideal way to strike the balance between bringing the best out of Metro: Last Light and not keep the fans waiting longer than necessary.” , said Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media. “We won’t leave that time unexploited and will work closely together with 4A Games to make the game even better. It will receive all the attention it deserves.”

"Since it has been made public that we took over the Metro franchise, the fans keep asking for a release date. Now we can finally announce when they will be able to get their hands on the game! We would like to thank all of the Metro fans for their patience. And we can assure them that we have a lot more coming their way with the franchise.”, said Menno van der Bil, International Commercial Director, Deep Silver.

In the year 2034, a nuclear war has turned the world into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. In Moscow, the tunnels of the Metro have become a new home for the former inhabitants of the city. Within the catacombs, they fight for their survival, fending off hordes of hideous mutants born from the toxic atmosphere, as well as other factions desperate to take control of what little hospitable land remains. As they fight, they also search for a doomsday device that could be the key to their victory. A civil war is inevitable. During these dark hours, the players will embody Artyom, and become the last light for all of mankind.

The plot of Metro: Last Light was written by Dmitry Glukhovsky, acclaimed author of the novel Metro 2033 which inspired the creation of both video games. Also, Glukhovsky is responsible for all dialogues in Metro: Last Light. Glukhovskys novels Metro 2033 and Metro 2034 have sold more than 2.000.000 copies worldwide. In 2013, his latest book Metro 2035 will be also available outside of Russia.

Although they forgot to include a swamp level in Metro 2033 while making all the sewer ones, the sequel won't suffer the same fate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mOr8-I2H70

The game as seen in the video lacks a crosshair and most of the HUD, but for some reason a small crosshair is still displayed in the centre of the screen every time you score a hit on an enemy, like in the Call of Duty games or Battlefield 3. I hope it's just there for debugging purposes.

So far the "survival guide" makes the game seem very lighthearted compared to what was shown in earlier videos. The guy talks like a tourist guide.

Metro: Last Light New Info

There is a video interview by Ukrainian tech website itcchannel with 4A's Andrew Prokhorov the creative director for Metro: Last Light. One of the members from the Metro: Last Light forums translated and highlighted the most important news from the interview.

• 4A games want to release an SDK and they plan to eventually, most likely paired with multiplayer.

• Metro: Last Light multiplayer will be released as a separate project, something along the lines of a Xbox Arcade game. ETA: At least half a year after Metro: LL release.

• Confirmed five DLC, story missions from the point of view of other characters. These are not cut content, work on these began after the game was finished.

• Season pass is a possibility.

• PS4 version. Will probably come with Metro 2033.

Linux port released today, no doubt in anticipation of SteamOS. They haven't posted the system requirements yet. Hopefully we will see some benchmarks in the next week or so.

It was also ported to Mac earlier.

Added the Mac tag to the thread title and removed the Wii U one:

Wikipedia wrote:The game was originally shown at the 2011 E3 show, and was included in the Wii U show-reel, though THQ has since stated that the game may not be released for the platform.[8][9]

Speaking to NowGamer regarding the possibility of the game coming to the Wii U, 4A Games chief technical officer Oles Shishkovtsov told the publication that the Wii U has a "horrible, slow CPU".[10] His colleague Huw Beynon reiterated the sentiment, telling the publication there would not be a Wii U version of Metro: Last Light, because the studio "couldn't justify the effort required. We had an early look at it, we thought we could probably do it, but in terms of the impact we would make on the overall quality of the game -- potentially to its detriment -- we just figured it wasn't worth pursuing at this time," Beynon said in the interview.[10] "It's something we might return to. I really couldn't make any promises, though. Given the size of the team, and compared to where we were last time, just developing for the PlayStation 3 is a significant addition."[10]

Michael Larabel wrote:If you aren't going to submit a test case yourself but are just making a request, first do your due diligence. For example, in recent weeks I've had countless requests of having Metro: Last Light benchmarks on Linux... And I've had to respond as many times -- via the forums, Twitter, etc -- that the Linux version of Metro: Last Light in Steam doesn't even have the benchmarking mode that's found on Windows. So make sure the game can at least be fully-automated and suits my requirements before trying to get me to run said test(s).

Well that just sucks. The closest thing I've found to a benchmark is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfThaG975uQ

Do be sure to watch the whole thing and not just the beginning, where it appears that the Linux version runs faster. At the end, he goes into the config files to match the graphical settings, and then runs the test again on Windows.

I tried to find out why the Linux version doesn't support the DirectX 11 features of the Windows version. Those features (e.g., tessellation) are indeed supported by OpenGL and therefore by the AMD/NVIDIA Linux graphics drivers, but I found this:

Then today (May 2013), OpenGL 4 tessellation on Mac OS X works fine on NVIDIA GPUs and does not work on AMD Radeon and Intel HD Graphics GPUs. I’m curious to see how OpenGL 4 tessellation will evolve with the new OS X 10.9.

http://www.geeks3d.com/20130513/opengl- ... -mac-os-x/

And this:

foijord wrote:Here's something that I discovered accidentally: OS X doesn't support OpenGL 4! All you get is 3.2, which was recently supported through Lion. WTF Apple?!? Support for the latest OpenGL version supported on your GPU is something you take for granted on any other OS. I don't think Apple even sells a computer that doesn't have an OpenGL 4.0 capable GPU, so there's really no excuse for this. I was looking forward to getting a new MacBook Pro or Air and playing around with the tessellation shaders and writeable memory buffers, but that will only be possible if running Windows or Linux on it.

http://forums.appleinsider.com/t/151376 ... t-opengl-4

So my theory is that since OpenGL 4/DirectX 11 features only worked on NVIDIA cards on Mac or didn't work at all (at the time of the port anyway), they just didn't bother with porting DX11 features from the DirectX version to the OpenGL version. And then the Linux port was simply the Mac port with the OS-specific code re-written. The video options screen is exactly the same on Mac: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6bMDNOGl5U

And my theory is that whoever is in charge of porting over the drivers was too busy playing games on Windows to do his job properly. After all, he knows full well that only a couple retards are going to complain, so why bother? And lo and behold, he was right!
