After first teasing the title in 2013, Nintendo and Atlus have finally unveiled its Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem crossover RPG for Wii U.

The game, titled Genei Ibunroku #FE (Illusory Revelations Sharp FE) and due out this winter in Japan (still to be titled or dated in the west), will be a “truly modern RPG” set in a world where everyday life exists alongside a secret world of fantasy including characters from the Fire Emblem series.

In a message posted on the game’s official website, Atlus producer Shinjiro Takada provided more information. Here are some key quotes:

“Given that this is a collaborative Fire Emblem project, I can imagine that many of you are feeling that what we’ve some is considerably contrary to your expectation. Indeed, on our side of things, we spent a long time at the beginning of development worrying over just how much we should incorporate from the main series and we’ve had a lot of serious consultations with Nintendo on this point as a result.

“In the end, though, we all came to the conclusion that if all we wanted was a more traditional Fire Emblem game, then it would have been best to have Intelligent Systems work on it. If we at Atlus are the ones who are going to be making this game, then we should be making something that plays up our strength.

“As a result, #FE is an RPG set in contemporary Japan, but focuses on the growth of a group of realistic characters with their fair shares of worries and conflicts. As the essence of the main series has been woven into it, ultimate we strive to make this a game that goes beyond just being a typical collaborative project.

“It might be hard to see just where that essence lies in the game right now, but we’ll touch upon that point in later updates as time goes on.

“For this trailer [posted below], there are four characters that take up the spotlight, but of course we have other great characters lined up as well. (Although some we may only show off briefly by design.)

“It’s also worth noting that for #FE, we’ve also working with other renowned outside creators. As this is the first entry in the developer blog, I thought it was right that I go first, but future entries will feature these outside creators, as well as staff members from Atlus proper as well, so look forward to that.”

Ishaan wrote:Nintendo describes Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem as an RPG involving a struggle between “the worlds of glamour and darkness”. In the game, you play as “Mirage Masters,” who have big dreams of becoming great entertainers. They polish their singing and acting skills in the entertainment business in their daily lives, working their way up in the world as artists.

Meanwhile, there are “Mirages,” who are beings of immeasurable power that come from another dimension. They’ve begun to invade the world, and some of them are evil, while others are drawn to humans with tremendous creative potential, and have shared their powers with them to safeguard humanity. This is probably why the main characters are called Mirage Masters.

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem will be released in 2016 for Wii U.
