WELCOME TO THE BATTLEFRONT, JEDI MASTER

In 2004, the original Star Wars Battlefront came onto the scene and took gamers – and Star Wars fans – by surprise. It was an ambitious action shooter that gave players the opportunity to step into the shoes of their favorite Star Wars characters, pilot quintessential Star Wars vehicles, and relive classic Star Wars battles.

Fast forward nearly 10 years and gamers still have many of those same Star Wars gaming fantasies – but now they wish to experience those larger-than-life battles in magnificent high definition, with all of the amazing special effects, vehicle physics and gameplay intensity that the next-generation has to offer.

That’s where we come in. Today we are announcing Star Wars Battlefront, developed by DICE on Frostbite 3. Our vision for the franchise will surprise and delight fans yet again. We are inventing a new experience inside this beloved universe made with our signature DICE craftsmanship and commitment to excellence. The video we released today gives you a small hint at the direction that we are taking.

The teams at DICE in Sweden and Los Angeles are huge Star Wars fans. We are humbled by the opportunity to create a new Star Wars Battlefront for gamers and Star Wars fans around the world.

We can’t wait for this adventure to begin…

Sal Romano wrote:IGN has published the first piece of concept artwork for DICE’s fall-due Star Wars Battlefront game.

The website spoke with design director Niklas Fegraeus, who explained a bit more of what’s to come when the game finally launches.

In a nutshell, Fegraeus promises “a great variety” of maps and modes, with some maps specifically tailored to certain game modes.

A full reveal is planned for spring, he added.

“We’ve been showing the game to some close partners and one of the things we hear is that it doesn’t feel like other shooters and that it’s fully born from Star Wars,” Fegraeus said. “That really strikes a chord with me and the team as that is exactly the emotion and feeling we are going for and we can’t wait to show the world more this spring.”

Star Wars: Battlefront Begins Shipping Across the Galaxy November 17, 2015

DICE, an Electronic Arts studio, and Lucasfilm announced today that Star Wars Battlefront will be released on November 20, 2015 in the United Kingdom (November 17 in North America and starting November 19 in Europe) as the first full-length trailer for this highly anticipated title premiered to thousands of fans at Star Wars Celebration. Combining an unprecedented collaboration with Lucasfilm and the award-winning Frostbite game engine, Star Wars Battlefront will deliver an incredibly authentic and immersive interactive entertainment experience featuring photorealistic visuals and epic action in iconic Star Wars locations. See how this comes to life in-engine by experiencing the newest trailer for Star Wars Battlefront at starwars.ea.com

“Like so many others around the world, everyone at DICE is a tremendous fan of the Star Wars universe,” said Sigurlina Ingvarsdottir, Senior Producer of Star Wars Battlefront. “To be working on a Star Wars project and knowing we are helping to represent the universe we love to our generation and a legion of new Star Wars fans is truly an honor. Thanks to the access and knowledge shared with us by Lucasfilm, and the passion and talent of our team, we plan to deliver an amazing game that puts you right in the middle of the Star Wars battles you always imagined playing.”

Star Wars Battlefront will allow fans to live out a wide range of heroic moments and intense battle fantasies of their own – firing blasters, riding speeder bikes and snow speeders, commanding AT-ATs and piloting TIE fighters and the Millennium Falcon. These battles will take place on some of the most iconic planets in the Star Wars universe, including Endor, Hoth, Tatooine and the previously unexplored planet, Sullust. Gamers will be able to play as some of the most memorable characters in the original trilogy such as Darth Vader and Boba Fett. Star Wars Battlefront will feature a wide range of modes tailored for different types of battles, from larger 40-person competitive multiplayer to crafted missions that are played solo, with a friend via split-screen offline or co-operatively online.

Fans who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront will be among the first players to experience the Battle of Jakku*, the pivotal moment when the New Republic confronted key Imperial holdouts on a remote desert planet on the Outer Rim. Taking place in the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor, players will experience the events that created the massive, battle-scarred landscape of Jakku shown in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Players who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront can fight the battle one-week early starting on December 1, 2015. All other players will get access to this free† content on December 8, 2015.

Star Wars Battlefront will be available in the United Kingdom on November 20 (North America on November 17 and starting November 19 in Europe) for the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft and on Origin for PC.

If that trailer footage is for reals, it looks truly next-gen. Too bad I am not interested in replaying the same SW scenes for the umpteenth time.

Mitch Dyer wrote:Star Wars Battlefront will not have a single-player or narrative campaign, DICE revealed to IGN. Rather than a traditional solo outing, Battlefront will rely on a set of short missions which can be played alone, or cooperatively via split-screen or online.

"I would say they occupy that space...where you play alone," General Manager of DICE Patrick Bach said. "Or you can play co-op, split screen or on the internet. The game is first and foremost a multiplayer game. Battlefront was a multiplayer game. That’s the game we wanted to create — to recreate the battles of the Original Trilogy."

This meant a proper campaign was out of the question. So how does co-op work?

The co-op missions are "connected," Bach said, "and they are quite different" from the regular competitive multiplayer. Missions are short, and intended to be replayed on higher difficulties. Producer Craig Mcleod offered more insight, stating, "Because it’s only a two-player experience you’re sharing with a friend, they’re custom built. "It’s not about pulling a section out of somewhere else and you just do them. I can’t go into specifics about what mission we’ll have, but when we think about multiplayer and co-op, what we’re really trying to do is immerse yourself in your Star Wars battle fantasies."

And as everyone knows, the best way to immerse you into a fantasy is to have you replay the same 10-minute battle scene over and over and over again for months and years on end.

Star Wars Battlefront – you can fly Snowspeeders, Millennium Falcon

Sherif Saed wrote:Star Wars fans don’t have much to go on when it comes to Battlefront gameplay details, so every little bit of information helps.

Star Wars: Battlefront developer DICE is revealing every few days how they plan to create an authentic Star Wars experience in the game.

This week was no different. Instead of a blog update, community manager Mathew Everett took to Reddit to ask what fans wanted to know the most, and answer what he can.

First up, answering one fan’s question about in-game vehicles, Everett confirmed that other than the recently revealed AT-STs and Speeder bikes, players will be able to pilot Snowspeeders and the Millennium Falcon.

As to how these machines are going to handle, he added that they’ll be easier to fly than Battlefield’s air vehicles.

“A lot easier to fly. Very Padawan friendly. We will go into more details on what makes them Padawan friendly and Jedi master-able (is that even a word?).”

It was recently confirmed that Battlefront will not have classes or squads.
