Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony’s Worldwide Studios came on stage to announced the firm has “the largest first-party network”; 14 studios in total and new Ip are being worked on for PS4. 20 new IP will be released for the console in the first year. One exclusive to PS4 is Sony Santa Monica’s and Ready At Dawn’s game which looks to take place in the early 1900s. But has a Steampunk feel due to the weapons. The Order: 1886 is the name of it, and it was rumored a while back.

Set in the Victorian era of London, The Order: 1886 is the first original IP created by Ready At Dawn, and it takes place in an alternate history where technological advances take center stage in a battle against a powerful and ancient foe.

The game takes place nearly forty years after the Industrial Revolution, but unlike the actual one, the one in the game stems from mankind’s “desire to prevail in a centuries-old war.”

In the game, you are a knight in an ancient order, and while it takes place in an alternate history, players will interact with real-world historical characters who will aid them in their quest.

The gameplay will also be seamless, as it there won’t be “any visual discrepancies or breaks in continuity between gameplay and cinematic.”

More on the game will be revealed in the future, so for now, enjoy the announcement video.

Gotdamn.

-In concept since 2005
-Trailer graphics are what you can expect it to look like in-game
-Everything in the world is rendered with soft body physics
-Metal beams react for example to magnetic forces, bending and shifting in real time
-Incredible attention to detail: Lens flare catches light as you rotate the camera, oil lamps flash independently in an underground scene, light bouncing off every object provides uncanny realism, insane attention to material detail like wood, leather and cloth.
-Clouds and particles of dust float around lamp flames, subtely settling down on the camera lense
-Ready at Dawn spent a lot of time making the weapons unique, giving each personality. Grounded in understandable science but also have behaviors that you wouldn't expect
-Examples of guns: Arc Gun like you saw in the trailer, Combo Gun has two different settings, you can blow enemies back with a non-lethal charge to make space as well as using standard rifle fire, Thermite Rifle can shoot a chemical onto enemies, using secondary fire to shoot flares to light them on fire, frag grenades can be used typically or hoisted onto the environment via spikes
-Around 7th or 8th century, humanity splinters, with many getting 'beastial traits', becoming 'half breeds'
-Thus begins the conflict
-Humanity basically forms a version of the Knights of the Round Table, in this case, The Order to fight off this enemy
-Through a strange turn of events, they discover a substance called "black water", giving them unusually long lives and unique ability to recover from injury
-The Knights continue to age, but at a much, much slower rate which they use to battle for centuries
-It's basically a curse given they continuously see everything around them leave and die off, it's both a salvation and a curse for them
-This leads up to the 19th century and the changes facilitate the unique futuristic Industrial Age you see before you
-You play as Grayson, known as "Sir Galahad" (guy with the porn stache)
-A new threat emerges as parts of society (humans) begin to rebel against the rulership and are disgruntled with the inequality between layers of society
-Battle scenes are chaotic and exciting, with use of cover, somewhat similar to of Gears of War
-"While the focus is on third-person gunplay combat, The Order sometimes pulls back for slower paced moments of investigation and exploration."
-Ready at Dawn took a unique twist to QTEs, sometimes melee attacks occur during gameplay, time slows down and you can rotate your camera and find different things in the environment to give you an edge. These can range from dodging a punch or grabbing an improvised weapon for example
-Focused on a very strong story driven single player now, not willing to talk about any multiplayer
-Interactive cutscenes keep players in control of part of the action (like shooting) while a preset dramatic moment plays out.

Game looking sharp. Good art direction too. No wonder many Japanese devs say they are looking forward to it.

E3 2014 Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFJZauFPSA8

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/06/ ... y-emerges/

Exactly a year ago, we launched our new IP with a trailer that introduced The Order and its Knights. As we revealed more about the game in the months that followed, we left one questioned unanswered. Who is the enemy hidden in the fog?

The Half-Breeds are many, its different species having evolved in their own rights, becoming a formidable and deadly threat to humanity’s dominance. One species in particular has taken dominion over the lands of Northern Europe and has threatened the rule of man for centuries. Lycan was the name given by humans to the species of Half-Breeds that acquired certain lupine and feline traits. Upon seeing them, people equated their looks to the myth and legends of werewolves that had been retold from generation to generation. What the Lycans lack in numbers, they make up in sheer strength and agility, and have proven to be some of the deadliest foes The Order has ever faced. In human form, they remain impossible to identify and as such, they hide in plain sight amongst the populace. With both Lycans and the Rebellion threatening the city of London, The Order must face enemies on all fronts.

It’s been amazing to see the excitement and support we have felt from the community since our announcement at last year’s E3. On behalf of the team at Ready At Dawn, I’m happy to tell you that The Order: 1886 will be launching on February 20th, 2015 exclusively on the PlayStation 4 in North America, Europe, Japan, Asia, and Latin America.

Tech analysis: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit ... h-analysis

John Linneman wrote:Coming from humble handheld origins, Ready at Dawn's first foray onto more powerful console hardware is a curious mixture of extremes. What can't be ignored are the fundamental flaws in the pacing, the over-reliance on cut-scenes and a basic lack of content. And yet, at the same time, from a technical perspective what we're looking at here is a game with an extreme level of care, attention - and accomplishment. The narrow approach to game design has at least allowed the team to unleash perhaps the most impressive example of real-time graphics on a console to date. The quality of the lighting and materials really helps build a beautifully realistic, almost tangible world for the player to experience.

The presentation also calls to mind our thoughts on Ryse when it was released in late 2013 - with a different approach to rendering that is more film-like in nature. The Order: 1886 moves away from the sharp edges one typically associates with real-time visuals by focusing more on a soft, temporally stabile display. It's clear that pushing visuals of this quality on a console with super-sampling would be impossible leading us to believe that this is the best possible choice given the situation. In our first look at Ryse, we quoted a Hollywood CG professional on image quality and, reading it again in 2015, it feels completely relevant to the approach Ready at Dawn has taken:

"We do what is essentially MSAA. Then we do a lens distortion that makes the image incredibly soft (amongst other blooms/blurs/etc). Softness/noise/grain is part of film and something we often embrace. Jaggies we avoid like the plague and thus we anti-alias the crap out of our images," said Pixar's Chris Horne. "In the end it's still the same conclusion: games oversample vs film. I've always thought that film res was more than enough res. I don't know how you will get gamers to embrace a film aesthetic, but it shouldn't be impossible."

It seems pretty clear that Ready at Dawn has emulated this filmic approach and in that sense, we feel they've really nailed it. The upscaling artefacts in Ryse, minimal as they were, are eliminated here and the selected anti-aliasing and post-processing techniques really succeed in delivering the type of image one might find when examining a still frame on a Blu-ray film.

We're extremely eager to see where this approach goes and hope to discover new examples in the future. It's interesting to note Tim Moss and Christer Ericson are credited as directors of technology on this project - while Mr Ericson has moved on to work for Activision, Tim Moss remains with Sony Santa Monica Studio. Perhaps this connection will filter back into future Santa Monica projects or even other Sony internal titles in development? Either way, what's clear is that current-gen hardware is opening the door to new rendering paradigms that have the scope to revolutionise the way that games are presented - and in future, hopefully we'll see the same kind of innovative spirit applied to the gameplay too.
