Famitsu this week has first details on Toukiden, Tecmo Koei and Omega Force’s Tokyo Game Show-announced PS Vita and PSP “history hunting” action game produced by Kenichi Ogasawara.

In Toukiden, players will fight demons as soldiers called “Mononofu.” In order to purge the demons, players must take them down limb by limb. Up to four players can play together in a party. And cross-play between PS Vita and PSP is also possible.

The game will launch in Japan sometime this year.

Expect a pre-launch demo of Tecmo Koei's history hunting game.



Famitsu this week has new details on Toukiden, Tecmo Koei’s upcoming history hunting game for PS Vita and PSP.

The game will feature character designs by Hidari, who, next to Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk, is known for her work on Fractale and Natsuiro Kiseki.

There are plans to distribute a demo of the game, as the team is seeking feedback to help improve the retail version.

And the rest of the information:
- Characters don’t have levels.
- You obtain raw materials by defeating enemies, which can be used to make weapons and gear. Equipping them will make you stronger.
- There are plans for Ad-Hoc Party interaction for the PSP version and infrared interaction for the PS Vita version.
- The online parts will employ Tecmo Koei’s know-how of multi raids.
- The game aims to “show the seriousness of Tecmo Koei.”
- Tecmo Koei is right in the middle of development.
- They’re aiming to create a top class action game.
- They’re also capitalizing upon their know-how from Nobunaga’s Ambition Online.
- Nagi (a character) is a soothing older sister (young woman), tolerant, and has a calm and gentle personality. She is high-spirited and has an innocent aspect when her curiosity is peaked.
- The name of Fugaku’s weapon is still a secret.
- The developer understands from surveys that many people play multi raids on singleplayer, so the game was made with them in mind.
- The game will launch in Japan “around the time the cicadas start chirping.”

Toukiden’s Four Oni Slaying Weapons Revealed

Toukiden, the hunting game from Tecmo Koei and Dynasty Warriors developer Omega Force, has players hunt Oni. Your warrior can pick one of four weapons to use. Let’s take a look at them.


The Long Sword is a well-rounded weapon with balanced attack speed, range, and power. I think the Long Sword looks long enough you need extra range you can charge up power and send a vacuum slash shockwave. The Long Sword’s special ability wounds oni. If you keep attacking the same spot you can cut deeper and deal additional damage.

Gauntlets are slow and heavy, but make up for their lack of speed with more damage. You can use the Furious Hundred Fists special attack to temporarily boost your attack speed and power.

The Bow is the only long range weapon in the game. Players can change the attack power to do either regular or strong attacks. The Curse Arrow skill marks enemies in a circle and locks on to them so you can hit multiple targets on an Oni. This skill also lets the warrior fire an explosive arrow that deals heavy damage.

Kusarigama is a versatile weapon that slices Oni with a sickle and crushes them with a weight on the other side. You have decent range with the Kusarigama and fast speed. The weapon’s special ability focuses your concentration and greatly increases your speed. In this state, you can throw the weight in mid-air and swoop in to attack Oni.

Toukiden: The Age of Demons will launch for PS Vita on February 11 in North America and February 14 in Europe, Tecmo Koei has announced.

Following recent trademarks, Tecmo Koei confirmed Toukiden Kiwami for PS Vita and PSP in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine.

The game is an upgraded version of the original Toukiden, and features a new demon called “Imihayahi” that appears three months after the events of the previous game.

The game will feature added equipment, a new NPC character, firearm weapons, more armor and spirits, double the amount of demons, more special moves, and increased customization. The story is about the same as the original game.

Toukiden Kiwami is due out in 2014, and is currently 50 percent complete. The PS Vita version will cost 5,800 yen at retail and 5,143 yen via download, and the PSP version 4,800 yen and 4,286 yen.

Koei Tecmo is bringing Toukiden: Kiwami, its PlayStation 4 and PS Vita demon hunting action RPG, to PC via Steam on June 26, the publisher announced.

Consumers who pre-order the Steam version will receive a 10 percent discount off the full price, as well as a bonus downloadable costume set fashioned after the armors of two of Kiwami‘s new characters, Soma and Reki.

The game features a story mode estimated to take over 100 hours to complete, over 50 Oni types, an “extensive” character creation mode, 300 fallen heroes whose rescued souls help strengthen the player’s team, more than 1,500 weapon variations, and an online multiplayer mode to battle Oni with up to four players.
