So who's getting a PS4 and/or One soon?

Use this thread to report in when you buy one of the two new superconsoles, or talk about your plans to buy them. If I wasn't spending the winter in France I'd be buying both asap, but as things stand I don't see the point of going to all the trouble just to play for a couple of weeks before it's time to leave. Still, I might grab a European PS4 if my local Game gets them in stock on launch or quickly thereafter, as long as I don't have to preorder or wait in queues or anything else retarded like that. I'd have preferred a US console, but it takes so long to get it shipped and pass it through customs, that I won't have the time to do this before the spring.

Most likely though I won't buy anything now and get US versions of both in the spring. They will have solved all possible early manufacturing defects as well by then, and I might end up getting better hardware.

Still, if I had the time to actually use them now, I wouldn't hesitate to grab launch versions of both systems. As for games, for the PS4 the only thing I seriously want for launch is Killzone, and maybe Resogun after a recent video I saw. For the One the list is much longer: Ryse, Dead Rising 3, Crimson Dragon and Forza 5 all look like great bets. (Note that stuff like BF4, Ghosts and AC4 are PC titles for me.)

lol first I heard of this:

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2013/10/ ... imate-faq/

When does the PS4 system come out in different countries and regions?

North America: November 15, 2013 (Canada and the United States)
PAL Markets:
November 29th, 2013. (Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom)
December 13th (Czech, Hungary, Slovakia, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Turkey)
2014: (Iceland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Ukraine)
Latin America: November 29th, 2013 (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru)
Japan: February 22nd, 2014
Asia regions: The middle of December 2013
Other regions: TBA

So most of Europe is getting the PS4 a week AFTER the One. Moreover, a bunch of other countries are getting it even later, and Japan doesn't get it until FUCKING FEBRUARY lol. Even Guatemala is getting the PS4 before Japan lol. Why is Japan getting so shafted now by everyone? Time to learn the joys of importing, my dear Jap friends!

Gematsu has a next-gen launch guide, and one interesting part of it lists all (or at any rate most -- no idea how comprehensive it is) upcoming titles for both systems. Without bothering to count, I'd estimate that PS4 exclusives outnumber the One's ten to one. What's worse is that even in terms of quality the One seems completely outmatched. Now I don't doubt for a second that many of these "exclusives" will turn multiplatform either before release or shortly after, but even if merely half of them DON'T, that's still a massive advantage for the PS4.

Part of it is that Sony is allowing a lot of "indie" trash. That's why I haven't heard of many of these games. Still, there's a significant advantage even if we deduct all of those.

I'm thinking I will probably get a PS4 at launch, and maybe the Xbox One a year or so down the line. I haven't actually bought a console at launch before so I'm excited.

I'd planned on getting a PS4 at launch, but I've had some unexpected expenses over the last couple of months so I had to cancel my pre-order. Bit of a shame because I love the whole launch buzz, but looking at the release list it's not quite the disappointment that missing out on previous console launches would have been. I'll get one next year once Ground Zeroes and Psycho Break are out, and probably an Xbox One not too long afterwards (especially if Dead Rising 3 and D4 remain exclusives).

Got a PS4 yesterday alongside Killzone and Resogun (after the annoying PSN outage), both of which seem pretty cool.

I definitely want to play at least Dead Rising 3 and Crimson Dragon, but I'm also planning on a PC upgrade soon so I'm not sure if I'll pick up a One immediately.

Congrats! I "purchased" Resogun and Contrast with my Plus membership just to feel as if I am somehow involved in all the excitement (it's nice that they let you "purchase" games for consoles you don't even own. I also got all the current Vita games without having a Vita).

Apparently Killzone has a co-op mode? If so I might break and buy an EU PS4 on the 29th. The reason I am trying to avoid the EU systems, even though they are nominally region-free, is that some fiasco like Persona Arena on PS3 might happen again down the line (the only region-locked disc for PS3), and force me to buy a second console.

Leon Hurley wrote:EB: Yeah the DLC, expansion packs. We also announced with the season pass that there’s going to be a co-op extension. So if you buy a season pass you get a co-op extension.

LH: Will that be playing through the main campaign?

EB: No. We don’t really want to go into details yet but it’s not playing campaign, it’s like a separate co-op mode that we’re adding. More details on that later, but it’s that kind of content that we want to make the game larger and larger. So a year from now I think you’ll have more maps more features, more modes, more customisations options, definitely.

A reasonable voice in a sea of subhumans projecting their disappointment with their lives on to the videogame industry:

Resogun, Battlefield, All the F2P. All the PS+.

Streaming. Aquiring some new gaming buddies. Reconnecting with old ones. All of us caught up in the excitement.

Going to bed and being unable to sleep, so out comes the Vita and Bang! direct link play. In Bed. The fucking future right there.

The waiting with giddy anticipation for the future. Destiny. Drive Club. Online persistance and change and growth. All that utter potential for fun and awe. Both blockbuster AAAAA and the indies. Naughty Dog and Team Meat. [Ignore the last two lines. -icy]

8 years has been too fucking long, and this is just the start of a tremendous new endevour. A new leaf in a hobby that has been with me forever, and has changed and evolved with me.

Can. Not. Wait.

Actually it's not a bad thread, by page 2 at least. A good number of people are on the side of videogames, and they are naturally demolishing the posers' pseudo-arguments.

It took this subhuman a decade to understand that progress is inevitable (which is still more than can be said for many others in that thread, who are genetically incapable of understanding it):

Cappuccino Kid wrote:Me, December 2005:

I really would like to be able to get excited about the 360. Indeed, in my weaker moments, I do start to think it seems an attractive prospect. After all, surely these people couldn't all be getting so excited over nothing? It must be selling out for a reason, right? But then I look at the games, and remember that it offers nothing new, just a mildly shinier version of what I've already got. This is the first time a new generation has come along and I haven't been thinking "Wow, I really want one of those; I never imagined games would end up being this amazing". Instead, I'm thinking "Hang on. Don't I already have one of those?". Hopefully some games will emerge that will change my mind, but I have't seen any signs yet.

8 years later, and I realise I was being a complete dunderhead. The 360 was ace, and a massive jump over the PS2, it just took a while for that to become obvious. [Because subhumans can't parse tech specs. -icy]

Really, this whole argument is nothing new. No, the launch games aren't amazing, but they rarely are. If you want your new console to immediately fill all your gaming time, and allow you to unplug your 360/PS3, then you're best holding off. If you don't mind the fact that it's going to be a drip-feed of games for the first 6 months, and you want that shiny new console feeling, fill yer boots. We'll all have upgraded in 5 years' time, one way or another.

Me, I've learnt my lesson. I'm day one-ing this time round.

And some self-knowledge for a change:

They are not impressed by next gen and yet they don't even take the trouble to look at pictures.

I mean if all you are playing is hippie rubbish and the only exposure you've had to cutting edge games is through tiny YouTube windows, and if moreover you are a thick, aesthetically dense imbecile, of course you won't be impressed. Meanwhile SOME people are playing on 180-degree curved 100-inch projector screens powered by 5,000-dollar PCs and can't fucking believe their eyes.

Got me a PS4 last Saturday, just under 1000 dollars. Haven't bought any games for it yet, only downloaded demos for Strider, Child of Light and a couple EA Sports games, but will give the freemium stuff (DC Universe Online, Blacklight Retribution, War Thunder, Warframe) a chance. Today it suffered its first blackout while on standby mode, so I guess it's been officially baptized lol.

After E3 I decided to switch my first console purchase for this gen from the PS4 to the Xbox One. The One's lineup feels so much more 'gamey', it's like going back to the Dreamcast days or something, the games look so colorful. The PS4 exclusives on the other hand seem to lean more towards the dark and/or cinematic style. Also the Sony E3 press conference generated negative feelings in me towards Sony making me feel like supporting Microsoft much more (I have written a post about this which I will post sometime soon). This is a bit of a shift for me because I've gamed mostly on Sony consoles and practically unconsciously assumed I was getting a PS4 first until E3 rolled around.

Before E3 I was a bit miffed that Sunset Overdrive wasn't coming out on the PS4 but now I am looking forward to getting it along with an Xbox One and perhaps also Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and/or Assassins Creed Unity near the end of the year.
