Nintendo has released a five-minute overview trailer for Fatal Frame: The Raven Haired Shrine Maiden, providing a deeper look at the Wii U horror adventure game ahead of its September 27 Japanese release.

Much of the footage covered by the trailer revolves around the series’ iconic Camera Obscura, detailing its in-game functionality. As expected for a Fatal Frame entry, this rendition of the Camera Obscura is the main tool that protagonist Yuuri Kozukata has when fighting against hostile spirits. Holding the camera up and snapping at opportune moments damages enemies, with especially good timing granting players the opportunity to chain multiple follow-up attacks. Additionally, the camera is also shown to be prominently used during exploration portions of the game, uncovering objects within the world that can’t otherwise be normally seen.

All of this is accomplished with the help of the Wii U GamePad, whereby raising it up brings the viewfinder over the current in-game view; the GamePad can also be tilted in order to achieve optimal photographic angles.

Beyond that, the trailer demonstrates the ability to see into the past lives of spirits by physically coming into contact with them. Also revealed are the addition of two playable characters in Miu Hinasaki, the missing girl that players initially set off in search for at the beginning of the game, as well as Ren Houjou, a man investigating the scholarly work of an ethnologist.
