Sato wrote:Shining Resonance has a protagonist that can turn into a dragon, along with a band of friends who fight using instrument-themed weapons. 4Gamer shares some new details on the game’s battle system, and the risk of using Yuma’s dragon form in combat.

The battles start when you see a monster on the field and run into it for a battle that starts seamlessly on the same field.

During combat, you play as one of the characters in the party, and use combo attacks to hit enemies. You can also pull off special attacks and magic that are unique to each character.

Dragners are those who fight using magical weapons, used to bring out all kinds of different powers from nature. The above images show some examples with instrument weapons using their wind and fire attribute attacks.

While you’ll only be controlling one character at a time, the NPC-handled party members aren’t too shabby, either. You can give out commands to the other party members, or have them provide support with pinpoint accuracy.

The protagonist, Yuma, has the ability to transform into a powerful dragon in combat. However, after a certain amount of time he can lose control and go berserk, so there’s a risk you’ll take when turning Yuma into a dragon.

Shining Resonance is slated for release in Japan on December 11, 2014 for PlayStation3.

Thomas James wrote:Elements Garden to Helm the Music of Shining Resonance!

We’re proud to announce that music production group Elements Garden is going to be overseeing the music production for Shining Resonance! Handling both the individual songs that the characters in the game perform, as well as the background music, the members of Elements Garden, centered around Junpei Fujita, are sure to turn in an ambitious soundtrack!

The music in Shining Resonance is being built around the core idea of musical instruments being used as weapons, meaning that each song will have a distinct main instrument, with folk instruments being used liberally, giving the game a unique aural texture all of its own that colors the Dragoners’ journey every step of the way.

Character Introduction

Lesti Sera Alma, the Elven Ice fang (voiced by Yuichi Nakamura)

Lesti is Kirika’s older brother and the leader of a band of knights from the elven nation of Wellant who harbors ancient powers within himself. As a commander, he’s known to fight alongside his elven troops at the frontlines of battle and is similarly attentive with his younger sister, looking over her constantly. A longtime Dragoner, he makes use of magic that draws upon ice spirits.

Although he goes to see for himself just how much of a threat Yuuma is to his sister and the world at large, he ultimately can’t bring himself to take Yuuma down and relents.

Lesti and Agnam have long known each other, even if the latter is arguably something of a bad influence. While typically a reliable staff officer who can make levelheaded, rational decisions, with Kirika, he has a habit of being overly protective as an older brother.

Rune Songs

Rune Songs are the magical songs that Kirika sings in battle. Passed down among the elves through generations, Rune Songs awaken the powers of Mother Nature that reside deep within dragons’ souls. Naturally, the more that Kirika develops as a Diva Magica, the more songs that she’ll have at her disposal. Beyond awakening natural powers, her music can also result in Kirika changing costumes, which bestow her with different effects, such as increased movement speed, with the costumes themselves being worn for the duration of combat.

Here’s a small sample of some of the songs you can expect to find in the game:

Spring Song: Hatsune Uraraka Ni
Summer Song: Nichirin no Kagayaki
Autumn Song: Hohoemi no Naru Ki
Winter Song: Yukibana no Shizuku

Kouryuu Irvan and Rune Songs

During battle, Yuuma can assume another form, that of the Progress Body version of the dragon Kouryuu. Although only half-awakened to his potential power in this state, Yuuma in his Kouryuu form is nonetheless extremely powerful. So much so, in fact, that if he overexerts himself, he’ll go berserk. When he’s in this state as a dragon, he indiscriminately targets both allies and enemies alike, meaning that one wrong step can prove to be fatal for the whole party.

All isn’t lost should this come to pass, however. As a Diva Magica, Kirika can use her Rune Songs to sooth the dragon’s raging heart and bring Yuuma back to safety.

Weather Patterns

In Shining Resonance, the weather changes, with variables like the game’s ecosystem and salvageable items varying depending on the conditions. This means that it’s important to take the weather into consideration as you’re making your plans. You can learn about the current state of the weather by speaking to a woman in town named Stella, a researcher who specializes in weather patterns.

Search Points

As you traverse the world of Shining Resonance, you’ll come upon Search Points, which are marked by beams of light on the ground. Checking out these Search Points will yield myriad types of items such as plants, minerals, and objects that once belonged to local wildlife. Provided enough time has passed, each Search Point can be scavenged multiple times. Furthermore, you may just find people are in search of items that can only be found in this manner.

Shining Resonance Refrain Heads West on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch in Summer 2018
http://nichegamer.com/2018/02/21/shinin ... mmer-2018/

Bradon Orselli wrote:Sega has announced a western release for Shining Resonance Refrain.

The Media Vision-developed game will launch sometime this summer for Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch in North America and Europe.

Featured above, you can view the announcement trailer for the game’s western release. It’s worth mentioning the game is coming in physical “Draconic Launch Edition,” complete with a metal slip case.

Here’s a rundown on the game, via Sega:

Remastered with New Refrain Mode

Shining Resonance Refrain remasters the original Shining Resonance, previously released on PlayStation 3 only in Japan, and features dual audio with English and Japanese voices. In addition to all of the original’s DLC, now included as part of the base “Original Mode,” Shining Resonance Refrain packs a new “Refrain Mode,” unlocking the Imperial Princess Excella and Dragonslayer Jinas as party members for a new experience – just be sure to save this for your second playthrough to avoid any spoilers!

With real-time action combat, it will be important to utilize each party member’s unique abilities and strengths while deepening relationships with each character. Through events and dates, get to know your party members to unlock their full potential on the battlefield! Depending on the bonds of the characters, “Resonance” may occur between them, providing a new level of support, leading to victory.

Master the B.A.N.D. System

Dragoneers wield Armonics, ancient weapon-instruments, in order to perform mystical and powerful Rune Songs. Once you build enough BPM (Battle Performance Mana), your party will be able to perform a session through the B.A.N.D. system. Depending on which song you play and which character you set at the center, your party will be able to indulge in various beneficial effects. Certain characters may even perform the song in a special costume!

Draconic Launch Edition

Those who purchase the launch edition of Shining Resonance Refrain on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, will receive the game in a collectible metal slipcase, featuring character artwork of Excella, Sonia, and Kirika.

For more information, please visit shiningresonance.com. Shining Resonance Refrain will be available for $49.99 USD / $64.99 CAD and will be released this summer.

Our Story So Far…

I thought this was a sequel but it seems it's just a remaster of this game for modern systems.
