Mitch Dyer wrote:Platinum Games is developing The Legend of Korra, a third-person combat game based on the Nickelodeon TV show.

The Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Bayonetta 2 studio and Activision will launch its downloadable Legend of Korra game this fall on PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3.

Korra scribe Tim Hedrick is writing the story, which takes place between The Legend of Korra’s second and third seasons. As the series' leading lady, players will use the Avatar's fire, earth, air, and water elements in combat to fight familiar enemies such as Mecha Tanks and Chi Blockers, as well as other Benders in the 3-on-3 Pro-Bending arena.

A Webfoot Technologies-developed turn-based strategy version of The Legend of Korra will also hit Nintendo 3DS this year. Where Platinum's action game is all about fast-paced martial-art combat, the 3DS game will "focus on tactically maneuvering Korra and her allies on the battlefield."

Look for more on Platinum's The Legend of Korra game, including our hands-on impressions, later this week.

Sounds lame. Looks lame too. And I thought Platinum's library would maintain a high standard, if not of achievement, then at least of effort. But whatever keeps the lights on in their offices I guess.

Looks like a decent brawler with some gimmicky racing stages a la '90s games thrown in. I see the autistic in-game score counting from Bayonetta is back. My main gripe is with the character design -- maybe not so much the protagonist's, but certainly everyone else's. But it's certainly not their fault. Couldn't they have worked on a Japanese license?

The interviewer's questions and his general attitude are cringe-inducingly bad. The only decent question he asked is if they are considering doing more licensed games in future.

A longer look at the same demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-3-2GUzvYE

The camera and general controls look very similar to Metal Gear Rising, though with dedicated block/parry and dodge buttons, and the score counting I think is also more similar to it than to Bayo (I mean, it doesn't have a window indicating the score multiplier, how many attacks you landed while using this or that bending, or if the enemy has been taunted and stuff), in fact it looks a bit less intrusive tucked to the lower right corner.

I'm surprised they decided to map the bending style switching to the shoulder buttons instead of to the D-pad like Dante in Devil May Cry 4, that way the player can only access three of the four elements immediately. I hope there's a way to remap the items to the shoulder buttons, maybe like "beginner" and "advanced" control sets. I think I saw Korra create an earth pillar when dodging while using earth bending at that video's 1:15 mark, that may be really important when playing the game on Extreme so it'd be nice to have it a bit more handy at all times.
