Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain release date spotted – rumour

The date is supposedly February 24, 2015. It was discovered by Mikefancypants, and he posted his findings on Reddit. He works at retail store and says that the date has always been a place-holder December 31, 2014.

Until he checked again to find that it has been changed to February 2015.

Whatever store Mikefancypants works at, it’s not the only one with this date. Microsoft Store, Rakuten, and Smart Game Shopper are all showing the same date.

This could be another place-holder date. However, the 24th is a Tuesday, the day most games come out in the US.

Then again, February is pretty close, all things considered, so it would’ve made sense for Konami to announce it months beforehand. In any case, treat this as a rumour for now.

so it's definitely showing the release date after the countdown.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on September 1.

The release date was originally planned for announcement tomorrow, but was leaked early via an IGN video uncovered by NeoGAF user Nibel.

In the video, Kojima Productions boss Hideo Kojima reveals that Snake will be more of a silent protagonist in the latest Metal Gear. Snake will act based on the player as much as possible, rather than doing things “like making spontaneous comments or flirting with women.”

Kojima also said that this will be the final Metal Gear Solid. (Shocker!)

“I was shocked when I heard you say it’s been 27 years since the first [Metal Gear],” Kojima said. “I always say ‘this will be my last Metal Gear.’ But the games in the series that I’ve personally designed and produced—Metal Gear for MSX, Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, 3, 4, and Peace Walker, and now Metal Gear Solid V—are what constitute a single Metal Gear saga.

“With Metal Gear Solid V, I’m finally closing the loop on that saga. In that sense, this will be the final Metal Gear Solid. Even if the Metal Gear franchise continues, to me, this is the last Metal Gear.”

Konami Brings PC Release for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in Line with September 1st Console Launch

Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. has announced it will release the PC edition of the eagerly awaited Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain alongside the console iterations on September 1st. Pre-orders are available now via Steam, which will include a copy of its illustrious prologue, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, absolutely free.

Originally scheduled to launch on September 15th, Konami has responded to calls from PC users and worked toward an earlier release date. The PC edition will now be available for pre-order via Steam – alongside the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 editions. Fans who pre-order their PC copies of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain via Steam will also receive a copy of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. All Steam customers will receive a collector’s video which reveals behind the scenes footage and a unique documentary, in addition to DLC in the form of a ‘Venom Snake’ emblem and Mother Base Staff.

“We initially did not think it would be possible to get such an epic game out onto PC in time for launch alongside its console counterparts, but all involved have worked diligently to meet the demands of our PC consumers,” commented Tomotada Tashiro, President of Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. “Now PC users will be able to explore the vibrant and beautifully-realised locations and set-pieces that elevate Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain beyond all other action titles. We feel confident that Steam users will be satisfied with the contents we will provide for the Steam version."

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain heads to PC as a dramatic advance for the multi-million-selling franchise, expanding themes and content seen in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. As with its prequel, the PC version of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain hosts a stunning 4k mode, which adds incredible visual acuity to the game’s huge open world environment. The game is also enhanced for those with NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards, meaning the game’s incredible level of detail is further enhanced as the scarred terrain of global battlefields is brought to vivid life with realistic weather patterns and day turning to night during the course of the action. For a limited time those who purchase qualifying GeForce GTX GPUs will get a free copy of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain sets a new standard in stealth-action, with the series’ famed sneaking elements greatly expanded and host of new characters – both good and bad – driving a tale of revenge. The game follows series hero Big Boss as he enters a series of battlefields following the deaths of his colleagues. Central to the game is a hideously disfigured adversary known as Skull Face, while the ongoing conflict also introduces the new, iconic characters, such as the mysterious Quiet – a female sniper with incredible abilities.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is 200x the size of its prologue and the expansive locations allow players to adapt their tactics to match the demands of the varied environment, creating an intuitive and utterly non-linear gameplay experience. Likewise, a host of acclaimed Metal Gear Solid tropes return in hugely advanced forms, including expanded CQC (Close-Quarter Combat) skills, and vastly improved enemy AI.

To complement its solo infiltration missions, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain also features a fully-integrated base management system where players strengthen their private army, Diamond Dogs, by expanding and customizing their Mother Base. Players can then take the battle online by infiltrating and stealing resources and personnel from each other’s Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), as they vie for worldwide supremacy.

Finally, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain also features the dedicated squad-based competitive multiplayer component, Metal Gear Online. Newly redesigned with the familiar gameplay and aesthetic styling of the acclaimed series, Metal Gear Online introduces Tactical Team Operations and features a ‘class system’ that more uniquely defines the strengths and abilities of player characters on the battlefield. As a result of the updated timing, console versions of Metal Gear Online will go live on October 6th, with the PC version set to release in January 2016.

Hands-on with Metal Gear Solid V, can Xbox One's 900p upgrade sustain 60fps? And how does it compare with PS4?: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit ... ar-solid-5

Thomas Morgan wrote:Overall, the Xbox One release of The Phantom Pain is a closer match for PS4 thanks to its bump to 1600x900, and at seemingly no sacrifice to performance. After a disappointing technical turnout with Ground Zeroes last year, image quality is now very respectable on Xbox One, despite the upscale. It's shy of PS4's full 1080p image in terms of absolute clarity, but the results still flatter the game's big ambition.

And pleasingly, 60fps isn't in jeopardy for either release. Despite the anomalous stress-points above, frame-rate purists will be pleased with Kojima's fifth main entry in the Metal Gear Solid line - provided you stick to current-gen consoles. The Phantom Pain is a very taxing game, and in terms of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the older hardware is pushed right to its limits and sometimes the experience can feel rather strained. We're playing both of these versions in tandem right now and aim to bring you first impressions as soon as we can.

Can last-gen consoles handle Metal Gear Solid V? Digital Foundry on the highs and lows of MGSV on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit ... andle-mgs5

Face-off: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit ... n-face-off

Thomas Morgan wrote:Hideo Kojima's last Metal Gear is a success for PS4 and Xbox One owners - an open-world, Fox Engine-powered finale to Big Boss' arc that corners a near-unshakable 60fps on each. Between the matching draw distances, physically-based lighting and excellent use of photographic effects, we have parity between the two versions in most areas. Put side-by-side, these two are largely identical during play, though several points do go in favour of PS4.

A full 1080p picture on PS4 is one such merit, while Xbox One upscales from 1600x900 to produce a slightly softer result at range - albeit with results that are still respectable. Lower resolution motion blur on Xbox One also causes more banding on objects in motion, while extreme close-ups on characters reveal an absence of a subtler, subsurface scattering pass present on PS4. Curiously, this was in place for Ground Zeroes on Xbox One, but it's since gone missing - meaning character complexions can appear slightly more coarse up close.

All of which makes PS4 a fair recommendation on current-gen, though Xbox One holds up in every other aspect and with the game in full flight, the experience is very, very similar indeed. Both are also in a different league entirely to the PS3 and Xbox 360 editions; the most glaring downgrade here being the sluggish, 20-30fps range of performance on last-gen (and sometimes lower). It can't be stressed enough; Metal Gear Solid V may have been built with older consoles in mind, but the ambition clearly outweighs these consoles' capabilities in The Phantom Pain.

After enjoying a locked 60fps on newer consoles, it's very hard to go back - even if the core feature-set is the same on all platforms. However, the real test of the Fox Engine's scalability lies on PC, a version Konami is working overtime to polish by launch today - with 4K support and added effects promised. Provided it's as neatly optimised as Ground Zeroes on PC, this could well be the definitive release, and we'll be back soon with a full overview of what it brings to the table.

1080p60 and beyond: the best PC hardware for Metal Gear Solid V, how The Phantom Pain on PC improves over console - and the hardware you'll need for the best experience: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit ... id-5-on-pc

Thomas Morgan wrote:Just like Ground Zeroes before it, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is one of the best-optimised titles on PC, and a superb way to experience Kojima's swansong to the series. It suits a wide range of setups - with even a Core i3 budget PC with a GTX 750 Ti capable of matching and even exceeding the PS4 experience in certain areas. It's a scalable game too - at its highest presets at ultra HD, it can even give the GTX 980 Ti and Titan X a run for their money - but ultimately, a 1080p target is very achievable on just about any enthusiast gaming hardware setup.

And crucially, Kojima Productions gives PC users plenty of options to tinker with its Fox Engine. The lack of support for frame-rates above 60fps is a shame, but everything else is present; from toggles to scale lighting quality and geometry LODs, to adjusting the quality of post-effects. Ultimately, the gains over PS4 and Xbox One are welcome; shadows are cleaned up, texture filtering is much improved, and the draw distance is broadened. However, the core elements are the same up close, and all three versions are highly recommended.

All in all, the Fox Engine once again rises to the challenge on PC, showing us its adaptability in the face of multiple hardware configurations. It's a shame that the only upcoming title to use this technology is Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 - and with Kojima Productions disbanded, we're unlikely to see the speculated open-world remake of Metal Gear Solid using the engine. Even so, let's hope Metal Gear Solid V's success here spurs Konami to return to more AAA projects in this vein - and that this engine forms the basis of its efforts.

How to avoid Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's save-corruption bug: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015- ... corruption

Tom Phillips wrote:Konami has issued an urgent warning to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain players after the discovery of a bug that is corrupting save files.

The issue occurs if you bring along your sniper buddy Quiet on two specific missions.

To avoid any chance of save corruption, do not bring Quiet as a buddy on Mission 29 or Mission 42.

Konami has warned the issue affects all versions of the game - PC, PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

"We deeply apologise, and appreciate your patience for further announcements regarding this issue," Konami wrote in a new blog post.

A patch is now in the works to fix the problem.

***[ Important Notice ] METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN - Non-Progression Bug (Additional Info)

As previously communicated, a critical bug has been identified that may halt progress and corrupt game save data under certain circumstances. Further investigation has revealed the exact trigger of the bug, so we would like to share these details to enable players to effectively avoid the issue.

The bug is triggered only under certain circumstances in Episode 29 or Episode 42 when Quiet is used as your buddy. However, you may still safely use Quiet in these missions if you use the Butterfly Emblem throughout the mission or avoid raising your Bond Level with Quiet to MAX during the course of the mission.

The team is currently working on a patch to fix the bug and repair any save data affected by the issue. Further updates will be announced soon. In the meantime, we apologize deeply for the problem and thank you for your continued patience as we work to resolve the issue.
