Considering there's a Sharp computer (with many games) called X1, using the term as a label for Xbox One games might cause some confusion. I almost got my hopes up for a brand new Sharp X1 game when I read the thread title. ;)

Good point, it sounded alright in my head when I posted it. The alternatives I had were ONE, XBOXONE, XONE, X-ONE, XBOX1, and XB1. If Microsoft came up with a better name, then coming up with an abbreviation would have been easier, lol.

I went with ONE since the tag for the Xbox 360 is 360. It seems to me the most elegant solution under the circumstances. Like recoil said, it's a dumb name so it's a tough choice. Dumber in fact than Wii and Wii U put together.

http://www.vg247.com/2013/06/22/quantum ... e-another/

“What you get when you buy the game is essentially the first season of Quantum Break. That includes the whole game and the whole show. They are connected in many different ways. The idea is that you get this deeper entertainment experience and they are interwoven, so we are aiming to get the perfect TV show-model pacing. So you play an episode of the game, you do certain junction points and choices along the way, and once you get to the end, we unlock an episode of the show.

“You get to watch it and see the consequences of the choices you’ve made in the game. Then you see glimpses of other stuff that helps you in the game, it gives you further information about certain things as well as clues how to unlock even further material. And then once again you get to play another episode of the game and it goes like that.”

Lake said players will have the freedom to choose skipping an episode of the show and keep on going, and can come back to the show and watch it later on.

Quantum Break uses Digital Molecular Matter, a highly accurate and versatile destruction system
http://www.pixelux.com/Remedy-QuantumBr ... ID=9242259

SAN FRANCISCO, CA— Friday, November 22nd, 2013.

Pixelux Entertainment announced today that Remedy Entertainment is the first to use the new Digital Molecular Matter (DMM) Playback System for high quality in-game destruction in their upcoming Xbox One Title, "Quantum Break". Microsoft showed "Quantum Break" during its May 21st Xbox One presentation as one of the launch titles for its new console..

DMM is a deformation-based fracture system that simulates the physical properties of any material using finite element analysis. If a structure exists - big or small, dense or thin, floppy or rigid - DMM causes it to react in the same way as dictated by reality. For example, wood doesn't simply break along a predetermined seam every time - rather, it bends and splinters into pieces from the point of impact. The same rules apply to any substance imaginable: rubber bends and snaps back into place. Glass shatters. Steel dents and bends. Plastic deforms. DMM can even simulate plants and organic objects through the adjustment of 14 different material physics settings ranging from toughness to volume preservation.

DMM has been incorporated into a Maya plugin that can be used to author very high-end destruction scenes. To date, over 20 feature films, commercials and even TV series have had key destruction sequences created using DMM technology.

The DMM Playback system allows 3-dimensional animations produced with the DMM plugin to be played back in-game with real-time performance. DMM Playback makes use of GPU-acceleration to minimize CPU overhead.

"DMM has played a key role in shaping Quantum Break, our vision of next-gen entertainment. We have been able to simulate complex scenarios on a scale that hasn't been possible before and then allow players experience them in real time. Can't wait to show the world more of what we're able to do!", said Mikko Uromo, Tech Team Lead at Remedy Entertainment.

Microsoft and Remedy Entertainment debuted the first gameplay of Quantum Break during its Gamescom press conference this morning.

The footage highlights protagonist Jack Joyce’s time manipulation abilities. Players will be able to:

Outsmart and outmaneuver enemies with time-amplified combat, which seamlessly blends action-packed gunplay with the ability to bend and temporary freeze time.

Leverage the frozen time to get a tactical advantage over enemies, attacking when and where they least expect it.

Play through catastrophes as time causes the environment to pause, stutter, rewind and freeze, forcing you to strategically use time powers to navigate through the chaos and destruction.

Sal Romano wrote:Microsoft and Remedy Entertainment have delayed Quantum Break, originally planned for release on Xbox One in 2015, to 2016.

“We thank our fans for their patience, and want them to know that the team is taking advantage of this opportunity to polish and fine tune the game to create the kind of standout entertainment experience they’ve come to expect from us”, said Sam Lake, Creative Director at Remedy.

Tech Analysis: Quantum Break, Digital Foundry on what works and what doesn't in Remedy's latest: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit ... h-analysis

John Linneman wrote:Ultimately, Quantum Break is one of the most technically accomplished games on Xbox One but it's not without its issues. Northlight produces beautifully detailed worlds with remarkable effects work and lighting but image quality just isn't where it needs to be. The filmic look works to an extent but visible aliasing is still evident in motion making it clear that the solution employed here isn't quite on par with what we witnessed in Rainbow Six Siege. The issues with shadow quality and general stability due to heavy reliance on screen-space data also impacts the look of the game at times.

The real triumph here is the way in which the game's technology benefits the core gameplay. Quantum Break is an absolute joy to play - perhaps the best game Remedy has made to date - and much of that joy is the result of its technology. That perfect mix of high quality animation, effects, and feedback just feels right. It's a highly satisfying game to play.

In these days of Unreal Engine and Unity, it's becoming a rare treat to play a game running on specialised, in-house technology so it was a real treat experiencing Remedy's creation. It has its rough edges, but it's clear that the lofty goals for the project were never in question. The quality of the lighting and the flexibility of what can be achieved in each scene is impressive and it feels as if many of the right compromises were made in order to reach that vision. If you've been looking for a genuine showpiece for Xbox One, even considering its flaws, Quantum Break is it.

Review: http://culture.vg/reviews/in-depth/quan ... 16-pc.html

From Discord:

Saf
aw, it's mediocre
still wondering if the story is good, if so much of it is just a linear TV show (edited)

icycalm
Yep, that was a deficiency of the review
But I think he would have said something if he thought it was good

Saf
yeah

recoil
The story is a 3/5 along with the TV episodes, it's pretty forgettable stuff. The review is spot on. (edited)

Saf
