The play images above are from some of the early prototypes. The more recent footage in the videos is from the multiplayer client that you get if you buy the early access.

The multiplayer feels like flimsy laser tag at the moment, without any feeling of weight, like that of being slowed down when shot. The HUD is really cool, as is how the maps morph into different states and change lighting. The game mode in place is rounds of "kill the other team, and one of your teammates gets to respawn if you capture a domination point or land a kill when you're the last man standing". I really hope they add the "aim from your hip" from Insurgency [ > ], especially since it would work great together with the already implemented laser sights.

In short: it's early days still, but it could turn out quite good, if they come through with the co-op. (The prototype with combat against robots was surprisingly good, considering its narrow scope.)

You can turn the laser sight on and off, and it marks clearly where your weapon is pointing when you're not holding RMB to aim. It's cool that other players can see your laser beam, but this also means you'll be switching it on and off incessantly to not be seen around corners. When I first tried the multiplayer I used it quite a bit, but now I don't. I still like how they've implemented it though.

ABOUT INTERSTELLAR MARINES
Interstellar Marines resurrects the old school tactical FPS, offering a unique blend of co-op, role-playing and nonlinear gameplay. Set in a believable future, you take on the role of an elite soldier handpicked to join Project IM, a top secret military program being assembled to protect mankind from all dangers outside our solar system.

Interstellar Marines is inspired by Half-Life, System Shock 2 and Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield. Our game is all about evolving the FPS recipe with all the inspirations we've assimilated since the birth of the genre. Our goal is an evolutionary leap forward driven by our compulsive interest in science fiction, role-playing, military realism, and respect for first person immersion.
