The announcement that 'Silent Hills' is in the works was made in the form of interactive teaser trailer on the PlayStation Store. At the end of the teaser, we see a man walking down a gloomy street. del Toro and Kojima's names pop up before he turns to towards the camera, revealing Reedus' face. The game's title fades out as Akira Yamaoka's chilling theme song plays.

For those confused, this was actually the cryptic P.T. demo Sony directed curious gamers towards at its Gamescom press conference. P.T. was teased as a mysterious horror game in development from the completely fabricated '7780s Studio.'

Kojima, the King of the Long Con, has actually been teasing this project for quite some time. In April, he revealed that he wanted to make a game with Ryan Gosling and Norman Reedus via his ever fascinating Twitter feed, and he has frequently waxed lyrical on his love for the Silent Hill series.

The last Silent Hill game, Book of Memories, was released in 2012 for the PlayStation Vita. An HD collection which compiled Silent Hill 2 and 3 was released that same year for PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.

There is no word yet as to console exclusivity. We've reached out to Sony and will update this story once we hear back.

I just played the P.T. The horror is something of a mixture between the first-person parts of Silent Hill 4: The Room and the paranormal stuff of Metal Gear Solid's fight with Psycho Mantis. Maybe there are also some elements from the fights with the B&B bosses from MGS4 but I didn't play that game yet. It's got more of a haunted house feel rather than someone's nightmares coming to life.

Also the game runs at 30 frames per second, though it's more cinematic that way I think it'd have been more immersive and frightening if they targeted 60 fps.

P.T. will be removed from the PlayStation Store this coming Wednesday, April 29.

P.T., the "playable teaser" for the next Silent Hill game, will be removed from the PlayStation Store this coming Wednesday, April 29. Publisher Konami announced the news in a brief update on the game's site.

"The distribution period of P.T. (Playable Teaser) on PlayStation Store will expire on Wednesday, April 29, 2015," the statement reads.

Head to the PlayStation Store here to queue up your free download before it's too late.

Konami did not provide any kind of explanation for why P.T. is being removed, or what its removal might mean for the future of Silent Hills. The decision to pull the PlayStation 4 game from the PlayStation Store comes amid a reported power struggle between Konami and developer Hideo Kojima.

Last month, Kojima's name was removed from the P.T./Silent Hills website.

Kojima is working on Silent Hills with Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro and The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus. But not much else is known about the project.

Silent Hills was originally revealed at Gamescom 2014 as horror game P.T., which was launched as a free PS4 demo on the PlayStation Store with almost no explanation as to what it was. Kojima later said that he wanted to make Silent Hills so scary that it will "make you sh*t your pants." He even joked at the time that the limited edition for Silent Hills would come with a fresh pair of pants.

Kojima and del Toro are still moving forward on some sort of collaboration:

Despite the cancellation of Silent Hills, which Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima and movie director Guillermo del Toro were headlining, the pair still intend to move forward on a project together.

“I love working with Kojima-san,” del Toro told IGN. “We are still in touch. We are still friends and working into doing something together, but that’s not going to be [Silent Hills].”

del Toro also spoke a bit about the cancelled Silent Hills.

“We were in the planning stages, and it’s a shame it’s not going to happen,” del Toro said. “We were talking about really pushing the boundaries of the new consoles, and making the game really mess with your head. One of the great moments in Metal Gear [Solid] was Psycho Mantis. The idea that a game can actually interact with you, and stuff like that.
