Really like the quality of the anime scenes. As for the rest... the typical N64 barren wasteland with low-poly models we've come to expect from the 3DS, only with the added insult of that stupid large head nonsense that the Japs seem to like.

Still worth playing for the anime, if the tactics are at least reasonably engaging, I would thing, as I am pretty sure they will be.

Fire Emblem If will come in two different versions that have their own unique stories and difficulties, but the games will also bring a few new features and changes to the series. This week’s issue of Famitsu provides the latest details. [Thanks, Hachima]

The male protagonist is voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki while the female protagonist is voiced by Satomi Sato. Similar to Fire Emblem Awakening, though, you’ll get to freely customize gender, looks, voice, and more. The unit type the protagonists will be are called “Dark Prince” and “Dark Princess”.

Fire Emblem If is split into two factions of the White and Black Kingdom. The White Kingdom has key characters such as Ryoma [CV: Yuichi Nakamura], Hinoka [CV: Kaori Nazuka], Takumi [CV: Yuki Kaji], and Sakura [CV: Hisako Kanemoto].

Meanwhile, the Black Kingdom has Marx [CV: Katsuyuki Konishi], Camila [CV: Miyuki Sawashiro], Leon [CV: Mamoru Miyano], and Elise [CV: Ayaka Suwa].

Fire Emblem If will have a the “Casual” mode that will allow your fallen units to return to your party after clearing the map, and will have an even easier mode called “Phoenix” mode, which revives fallen units on the following turn. This should make it easier for those that want to play the Black Kingdom story without the harder challenges holding them back. Keep in mind, however, that once you change a mode or difficulty setting, you will not be able to change it back.

Characters from the royal families have the abilities to make different changes on the battlefield with something known as the “Dragon Pulse”. Some examples of this include building bridges on the battlefield, causing earthquakes, flattening mountains, and all kinds of different changes to the maps.

There’s a total of nine save data slots, and with each additional DLC scenario, it will increase by three more save slots. Additionally, the limited number of times a weapon can be used has been abolished, so that means you won’t have to worry about keep buying the same weapon, or holding back on powerful or useful weapons, and you’ll mainly have to worry about which weapons to equip for certain fights, when given the choice.

Fire Emblem If will release in Japan on June 25, 2015 for Nintendo 3DS.

Oh, good, I don't have to worry about my weapons breaking anymore. Maybe they can also remove permadeath completely at some point, so I don't have to worry about proper tactics. This way I'll finally have the animu dating sim I've been dreaming about for so long.

I kind of like the fact that weapons won't break, it does become tiresome to have to keep restocking them all the time in Kakusei. The strategic aspect for the weapon-breaking mechanics was already sort of moot since you could go back to a previous "chapter", spawn enemy units and grind them for experience and money over and over. It'd make sense if they kept the breakable weapons and forbade any and all backtracking.

I wasn't aware that you could grind infinitely in Kakusei, haven't played it yet (dunno if I ever will, now). Yeah, this change makes sense now.

Still, it sucks that they're moving in this direction. It's not like the weapon-breaking mechanics were super-deep or anything, but you still had a feeling like you were fighting in a huge war, due to needing to keep track of your resources. Regardless of whatever improvements to the tactical aspect of Fire Emblem IntSys will end up doing, they are probably not going to make up for the loss of the weapon durability system and the games won't be too different from any other generic SRPG series.

You could not backtrack and grind in any of the Fire Emblems I've played. The only place you could grind was the arena, and it wasn't exactly grinding because there was a huge risk that you could die and lose all the time you spent "grinding". It was more a timesink crapshoot than anything. I liked it precisely for this reason. It gave you a different type of battle scenario, it was risky, and the potential rewards were commensurate with the risks.

It sounds like Kakusei was gimped, and it sounds like this is for borderline non-gamers, complete with Nintendo easy automatic mode.

RIP Fire Emblem.

Luckily, the series' creator is making a new game in the same mold with friends in his spare time. Should make a thread about that if we don't have one already.

However, in the highest difficulty levels in Kakusei, challenge battles give out very little experience and money, making them impractical for grinding, and therefore sort of pointless to tackle.

here's a link to the direct set to start at the FE section:

so it seems like Fire Emblem If will have a base building/stronghold mechanic wherein you can place houses/shops and other things.. they showed this in the direct and your base can also be invaded...

sounds cool, do you think this will be a good addition to the Fire Emblem series?

http://gematsu.com/2015/06/fire-emblem- ... blem-fates

The game is titled Fire Emblem Fates in the US and Europe, and will come out next year:

The new Fire Emblem game, known as Fire Emblem If in Japan, will launch in North America and Europe next year as Fire Emblem Fates, Nintendo announced.

Like Japan, two versions of the game will be launched in North America and Europe, offering players the choice to fight an opposite force or join the other side and try to make changes from within. Players take on the role of the main character and command an army, while struggling to decide whether to help blood relatives or the family that raised him/her.

Your Battle. Your Future. Your Fate.

Two kingdoms at war – the peace-loving Hoshido and the glory-seeking Nohr – It’s up to the player to decide which side to take. As the prince/princess of Hoshido, who was raised by Nohr royal family, you will be torn between two families you love. Whichever path you take, you will face different types of challenges.

Features

  • For the first time in the series, the player plays as the main character and commands his or her own army. The player character is customizable avatar, like in the Fire Emblem Awakening game. Select male or female with many options.
  • During the game, the player must make the choice between Hoshido and Nohr. Each path will offer a completely different storyline with a different set of characters to recruit as allies.
  • The Hoshido path is a more traditional path as you work together with your allies to fend off Nohrian invaders.
  • The Nohr path will force you to revolutionize an unruly kingdom from the inside – this path offers a slightly more complex story and will be more challenging.

There's also a new trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLFB-LtKYuQ

And apparently it has online multiplayer, though at just five units per player it seems limited:

Fire Emblem Fates launched for 3DS in Japan today. And it has a pretty big feature Nintendo didn’t announce prior to release: online multiplayer.

Online matches consist of five-versus-five batttles with a team of units selected from one of your save files from any point in the game. You can play online with players on your friends list, with random players, or locally. Random battles can be played with standard rules or with limitations to eliminate the effect of Eternal Proofs and other items. There’s no fog of war, and the time is limited to five minutes per turn.

Five maps are available in multiplayer by default: “Mountain Village,” “Opera House,” “Destroyed City,” “Crumbled Fortress,” and “Palace.” Eac has Dragon Vein mechanisms and some have destructible objects. In addition to these, you can also use either player’s “My Castle” map as a map.

Serene Forest has a bit more of the more technical details.
