Even the trailer uses a V but for some reason they changed it to a 5 in their title.

They're not even remotely comparable and, as has been alluded to, the current released build of BFV is seriously lagging behind in terms of stability.

The alpha has swayed my opinion of this though; I was never a fan of BF1, not only the setting but the needlessly large scale of the maps with minimal cover. Thankfully Amiens on Frontlines mode saved the day for me. BFV, on the other hand, feels more refined in terms of the released maps so far. It feels like each building has a purpose, clearly overlooking objectives, but equally is also a target for destruction or to be used as an enemy stronghold. There were also more capture points to acquire across the map, so even if the maps are equally as large, the ground to cover between bases has been reduced. The inclusion of a third person camera for squad joining is long overdue and other nice adjustments include better UI flow into battle and the visual flair associated with ribbons has been toned down in favour of the spectacular environmental factors demonstrated throughout the trailers.

I'll be picking up both this and Call of Duty, there is always room for both, I just hope that this is finally the entry that drags me away from the well-refined gameplay of BF4 as BF1 didn't quite fully convince me.

They have an engine and IP perfect to hit the BR scene with an incredible BR mode, they have the talent to put out the best shooters, they have an insanely popular game mode (Conquest) that is still sorta unrivaled in the shooter space at the scale they do it, they have a fan base who stuck with them through bf4 despite how long it took for them to get it together (its awesome now btw), and yet Dice and EA have taken the simple layup that Battlefield 5 should have been and completely bricked it. This stuff should be easy for them.

Even if you view BF1 as a step back, you would have to think they would come back swinging. Instead we get really bizarre marketing, a game that looks like a bf1 WW2 mod, no BR on release, basically no attachment system or gun depth other than some perk trees (which already hurt bf1), low release gun count, 3 boring single player missions set in multiplayer maps, and a panic mode game delay?

Its obvious that Dice cannot handle 1 year dev cycles, and it sucks that the rushed out Battlefront games (which should have been layups as well) are hurting the Battlefield franchise.

I have hope that criterion can make a good BR with BF5s mechanics, but with no attachment system and likely a low player base I don't see how it will survive. Dice has almost completely lost me on the base game though. I don't think they can get back to BF4 levels with the current direction they are going.

So I've played the first act of BFV single player mode called War Stories (one available for EA Access subscribers) and it's a fuckin joke. Thought I'll get a gritty depiction of second WW, but instead Dice served me a Rambo-esqu one-man army bullshit. The main character and his wounded buddy exterminate Nazi footsoldiers and panzer division like it's some kind of power fantasy. I known it's just a video game, but c'mon, even Hollywood driven action heavy Call of Duty is more believable than that. Has some scale, other allied soldiers running besides you.
