Here is an overview of the game, via SNK:

A brand new title from SNK! A new Samurai Shodown is on the horizon!

Since its birth in 1993, the Samurai Shodown series has been known as the premier weapon based versus fighting games, and was essential in cultivating the weapon based fighting game genre. As the first new release in the series in more than 10 years, Samurai Shodown is aiming to yet again push boundaries and deliver some serious samurai action!

Developed using Unreal Engine 4 and utilizing a unique brushstroke graphical style to match the Japanese roots of the series, Haohmaru, Nakoruru, Galford and a whole cast of other popular characters will battle once again for victory! Stay tuned for more news about Samurai Shodown as we lead up to release in 2019!

It's out on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1342 ... I_SHODOWN/

I've had it on Epic since day 1, with all the DLC: https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/p ... own-reboot

There is crossplay between the two versions so I can play with Exiled who just bought it on Steam: https://twitter.com/snkpofficial/status ... 7192498176

Then again, we tested netcode with recoil a while back, and there was heavy lag. So maybe can only play within your region. I haven't tried against anyone in Europe yet.

This is my only session so far because we then got into GBVS, and I can't play two FTGs at the same time (I forget the moves lol). Ultimately I prefer SS, but since it lags we went with GBVS. I plan to get back into SS after I am done with Strive and GBVS for a while. So it will take me a while, but I look forward to it. It's a great game.

There is actually no crossplay between Epic and Steam. The link I gave above was for the collection, not the reboot. More details here:

EGS / Steam crossplay does not exist for this game.

Only now SamSho has to curate another playerbase on another platform that people will more than likely will not invest time in a game that's fully priced with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ netcode.

Game is dead in the water anyway, no crossplay, no rollback, ruined trust, full price.

The Steam version seems to support Remote Play.

That might be worth a try! Might fix the lag issue too!

I just remembered that on Epic with recoil we tried both the game's included online mode plus the Hamachi app that Beakman recommended. As I said, the online lagged, and Hamachi crashed the game, iirc.

The other app that works like Steam Remote Play Together is Parsec: https://parsec.app

I've played with it extensively, mainly stuff on my GOG library. I don't think I ever had a crash with it. I sometimes need to restart the Parsec stream due to audio feedback with Discord, though.

Those guys on Steam are fucking useless. They're still bitching about the Epic exclusivity deal that happened a year ago when the PC version of the game released even though that is obviously no longer in effect. I'm positive those same guys who say they still won't buy the game on Steam grab up every free title that Epic drops weekly. And apparently they're too busy whining about the netcode to notice that the Steam version supports Remote Play.

I tested it out with Arco and I'm happy to say it works wonderfully. Which is great news because I am liking the cast a lot, even the guest characters. And we can play online now! I also like that it doesn't seem to be a watered-down version of Samurai Shodown at all from what little I remember of the old games. Most special attacks seem to have multiple versions for instance, which a lot of recent fighters I've played have kinda shied away from.

The game looks a bit better when it's actually running than from what I saw in the screenshots or trailers. From those alone, I wasn't completely sold on the art style but after seeing it in-person I definitely like it.

Looking forward to playing this with you guys.

I think I misspoke above. We didn't try Hamachi with recoil, we indeed tried Parsec, and that's what crashed for us.

At any rate, I want to play a bunch of GBVS now, since I just bought the new characters, and once I am done with it I'll play SS. And then DNF Duel on launch day.

Ever since the original Samurai Spirits, I've enjoyed weapons fighters much more than barehanded ones. Of course companies like ArcSys have blurred the lines, since they've made anime-inspired characters with limbs that basically function like weapons, but it doesn't feel the same to me as a pure weapons fighter, so SS is still probably the premier weapons fighter as far as I know. Or Gekka no Kenshi would be if it got a new installment.

Never thought it would happen but this game is getting rollback next year:

https://twitter.com/EVO/status/15556752 ... UjgujzgwRg

It’s currently on sale on Steam until August 8th and there’s a pack that includes all the DLC characters.

Considering this happened, I am guessing a Season 4 Pass is also plausible.
