The thinking for the system has already begun. Here is what we have so far, from the Insomnia Discord:

icycalm
Now I have to start thinking for the CW8 system
Any ideas, let me know

Diskraip
Perhaps for a diversity, you can add a gas giant

icycalm
The problem with the gas giant is that it gives a lot of eco, which will slow the server
That's why I put so little metal in CW6 and 7
And that's why we have no lag
I think with gas giant we 1) get a lot of lag, 2) game ends quickly
We could try it for one game, to see how it works

Diskraip
I agree with you. But one my teammate say that he want gas giant. And i think that we can one CW with gas. But it not not necessary.
Personally, I do not really like gas systems.
this just offer for diversity

icycalm
Okay, we will use gas giant in CW8 or CW9
Let me think about it

Diskraip
Yes, of course. And do not add it if you think that it not good idea

icycalm
I am trying to think of some way to neutralize it
Some counter to it

Robomoo
You could make it collide after a certain amount of time

icycalm
Ultimately, in the far future, maybe we could mod jigs

Robomoo
Like BRN's system

icycalm
Do gas giants smash?
I think the planet goes through them...

Diskraip
Maybe two gas giants smash?

icycalm
We should test it

Diskraip
yep

icycalm
Or ask someone who knows

Diskraip
we need test
i can do it now

icycalm
But you can't build Halley on gas giant
So you cannot smash two together
https://forums.uberent.com/threads/dest ... ant.70824/

Diskraip
Gas giant invulnerable(

icycalm
Yep
The only thing we can do to nerf it is to mod jigs

A private conversation with Elite on the subject:

Elite Sardaukar
we need to think of some things to better system design

icycalm
I think you are talking about a different thing
You are talking about pretty planets

Elite Sardaukar
no
more eco
or smaller planets

icycalm
More eco means more lag
Smaller planets means shorter games

Elite Sardaukar
yes but it is also painful to play with minimal eco
it just drags out the ffa
it makes people trtle more

icycalm
Personally, I love it, but if you don't like it, you can make some of the systems
Or ask your friends to make them

Elite Sardaukar
I have an idea but i'm unsure how it will play out

icycalm
We can try it

Elite Sardaukar
I'll try get some thime to make it

icycalm
As long as everyone understands it's an experiment
And they don't blame me for problems

Elite Sardaukar
what were you thinking for the next system?

icycalm
Nothing yet
I will tell you when I have ideas
You can start work anyway
We will use both systems anyway
We just have to choose which to use first, and since we used mine since CW3, it's your turn if you can have it read in time
Otherwise, we use yours for CW9

More from Discord:

Furballman
Nah don't mod jigs
They are not OP
People just don't use them enough
Or don't realise the economic advantage
So that when someone else uses them, they just say "OP"
It takes a hell of a lot of resources to actually defend a gas giant

icycalm
I am not saying the jigs are OP
I am saying the gas giant is

Furballman
Ah ok
Sorry

icycalm
No worries

Furballman
A small gas giant
?

icycalm
Maybe
We need to experiment
Or maybe 2 gas giants, so 2 teams can have huge eco
But the problem is the sim
Maybe in 2 years it will not be a problem, with new processors
I am thinking 2xsmall gas giants + 2x700 planets
That's going to be my next design
And Elite is making one too
We use one for CW8, and the other for 9 (edited)
Maybe I will also throw a moon with 5-10 halleys in mine

Furballman
Sounds good!

Elite Sardaukar
you will be unable to make a gas giant smaller than 1000 or 1500 by memory, limited by the game engine
even manually editing the .pas it will reset to default minimum when the game is started

icycalm
I think it's 1000
All this stuff makes sense, at least aesthetically, since gas giants are supposed to be... giants, and you can't destroy them by planet collisions in real life either

Elite Sardaukar
Ive never tested it irl

icycalm
Google shoemaker-levy
I wonder if you can destroy your own planet if it gets in the way of your annihilaser beam

Elite Sardaukar
no
it shoots straight through it

icycalm
Good to know

Elite Sardaukar
i'll hopefully have a system finished soon for you to preview (edited)

icycalm
Cool

That's interesting about the annihilaser and shooting your own planet, I always get really nervous I'll accidentally annihilate my own planet, but now it seems there's no reason to worry!

Also, on the subject of gas giants, it's not particularly pretty but I'm sure I've seen gas giants with a radius less than 1000.

The problem with the gas giants is that they snowball. That's why people don't like to use them in their systems, and especially in systems like mine which are designed to prolong the length of the game, which snowballing reduces -- and DRASTICALLY reduces.

So what we need is a way to prevent the gas giants from snowballing. We need to make them just another way of getting resources, instead of THE way to get resources, and then we will be featuring them in our events far more often.

Otherwise they will only be featured extremely rarely, for the sake of variety, as Diskraip said. And I think that would be a shame.

The gas planet size is hard coded into the game, you can change it to be smaller in the editor but it will reset, if you have a way to make it smaller please let me know.

This system has 2x1000 gas giants and 2x730 moons, one lava and one ice, orbiting them, one for each gas giant. In the end I decided against including anything smashable because, due to the gas giant ecos, the smashing would happen quickly and the game would not last long. If we had more planets, I could have included something smashable, but I didn't want to add more surface area for lag reasons.

This is a far more experimental system than the last two we played, so we could get a short game or a long, laggy one, both of which would be undesirable outcomes. However, we need to try out new things, so let's give it a try, and if something goes wrong, please be understanding and have patience.

My ideal scenario is that, after some brief ground-based skirmishes, two clans grab one gas giant/moon combo each, and slug it out between themselves with nukes and orbital invasions. Let's see what will happen then.

Just to let everyone know, there is a chance that pXs won't play tonight, because Senketsu is currently away on holiday, and Skywalker is completely exhausted as well, and no other members can be reached atm, but I'll keep you posted.
