We need to get this stuff back properly online in some form or other. I guess he's going to add them to his new site sooner or later.

My favorite so far:

Nick is a great guy, I've been posting on various boards with him for about 5 or 6 years now. His ability to demolish Nintendo fans is legendary.

It appears that these articles are now impossible to find. Does anyone know if they can still be viewed somewhere, or am I going to have to contact Nick? A shame really, since I only got to read a couple of them...

Don't know of any other place that hosts Nick's articles. Given that he implemented a robots.txt file explicitly asking to not keep his stuff and the site's index is completely blank, I'd assume he's over with the site for the time being (probably consumed by his duties as a father).

Yeah, best thing would be for you to contact him, icy.

New article: http://www.segabastard.com/rub/gems.html

The only genuinely bad article of his I've seen so far. I just sent him the following email about it:

I wrote:Hey man, I just read your latest article on the issue of "hidden gems".

I am just going to make another attempt to explain to you where people like that guy you are bashing and I are coming from. Bash us all you want, but perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to also try to understand at some point why we act the way we do?

We don't care how much shit a console's library contains. We just don't buy it and play it. We buy and play the good stuff (or at any rate the stuff that we like). You are trying to turn the term "hidden gem" into an insult. Which is fine, but still irrelevant to those who want to play EVERY LAST GREAT GAME THAT HAS EVER BEEN MADE. Even the 3DO had at least one great game: Return Fire. And no amount of insults and personal crusades against the company that made that console is going to prevent us from buying the console and tracking down a copy of the game. No amount of puerile insinuations that we "don't have enough sex" or whatever. I don't know about the guy who has 100 Wii games, but I've had so much sex in my life that at times I even got tired of it. Have you ever tried having sex 3 times a day for even just a week? You can get sick of sex if you have too much of it just the same as with any other thing. Harping on and on and on about how "nerds" don't have enough sex can also get tiring. This is a picture of me:

And I have a Wii with 20+ games, including Oboro Muramasa, which looks like this:

(A game by the same company that made Dragon's Crown, which you'll also not be playing because you hate Sony too, or can't afford a PS3 or something.)

So, you can keep writing your articles against Nintendo, or Sony, or whoever, and they are generally great and very amusing to read, but until you make an effort to understand that real gamers are only ultimately interested in games, and not in politics, or business, or PR or whatever, you will continue to miss the mark on what makes us tick -- as well as many great games.

We have had some other email exchanges before that I may post some day. Sometimes he replies to me, but he generally ignores me. Too busy fighting a 25-year crusade against Nintendo to care about what actual gamers think, I guess... But isn't that more immature than what the snerds do? The snerds merely have bad taste in games, but they still buy and play every game that seems good to them. Nick meanwhile proudly proclaims he will never play Dragon's Crown, even though the game seems interesting to him, because it's on a Sony console. So who is more immature here?
