Mike Jackson wrote:343 Industries' Bonnie Ross took to the stage of Microsoft's pre-E3 press briefing to confirm that the new game, announced at the show only as 'Halo', will be 'enhanced by cloud computing' and make use of dedicated servers.

She also promised, "for the first time on console, a Halo experience that runs at a blistering 60 frames per second."

In a press release, Microsoft refers to the game as "Halo Xbox One", and teases "the next chapter of the award-winning Xbox franchise developed by 343 Industries that will take you on a new journey in the Halo universe beginning in 2014".

HALO FOR XBOX ONE STILL COMING IN 2014
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/01/06/ ... ng-in-2014

Andrew Goldfarb wrote:Halo will still hit Xbox One this year. Speaking on Twitter, Microsoft’s Rob Semsey confirmed that fans can “Rest assured your next Halo journey WILL begin in 2014,” adding the hashtag “stay calm.”

Semsey’s tweet comes in response to a list of 2014 Xbox One games posted on Xbox Wire today, which includes Titanfall, Watch Dogs, Project Spark, Sunset Overdrive, The Division, and many others, but lacks the next Halo. According to Semsey in a separate tweet, Halo was only absent because the official name of game hasn’t been announced yet.

The Xbox One Halo game teased at E3 last year is Halo 5: Guardians and will launch in fall 2015, Microsoft announced.

A “massive” project, the game is built in a “more powerful” new engine. It will feature “some core elements” carried over from prior games, but a “huge” amount of effort has gone to retooling the technology to take advantage of the Xbox One hardware, according to 343 Industries manager Bonnie Ross.

“Making a Halo game that runs at 60 frames per second, on dedicated servers, with the scope, features and scale we’ve been dreaming of for more than a decade, is non-trivial,” Ross said. “It’s a task that we, at 343 Industries, are taking very seriously to ensure we deliver the Halo game that fans deserve, and a game that is built from the ground up for Xbox One.”

You won’t have to wait until 2015 to begin your Halo “journey,” however. It will begin this year, Ross said, likely teasing the Halo 2 remake first rumored in January.

“Many fans noted that I was very deliberate with my phrasing on stage at E3 last year,” Ross said. “I spoke about a ‘journey,’ rather than a destination – and that journey definitely begins in 2014 with a giant leap, rather than one small step.

“We’ll give you much more information about our plans for this year at the Xbox E3 2014 Media Briefing on June 9, and we’re confident that Halo fans will be pretty excited about the special plans we have in store.”

Xbox Wire Staff wrote:Halo 5: Guardians Launches October 27 Worldwide, Exclusively on Xbox One

Tonight's finale of “The Walking Dead” on AMC wasn’t the only cliffhanger that left fans searching for answers. Two new live-action trailers for Halo 5: Guardians kick off one of the most epic showdowns in entertainment history, pitting the legendary Master Chief against the UNSC’s top manhunter – Spartan Locke. Leading the greatest gaming lineup in Xbox history, Halo 5: Guardians will launch worldwide on October 27, exclusively on Xbox One.

The first spot, titled “All Hail,” highlights Spartan Locke drawing down on the compromised Master Chief, questioning his legacy and motives. The second, “The Cost,” shows the Master Chief with the upper hand over an injured Spartan Locke, delivering a powerful manifesto about the true price of being a hero.

Which version is true? Who is the hunter and who is the hunted?

“We wanted Halo 5: Guardians to be the game that pays off the epic promise of the Halo universe in scope and scale and drama,” said Bonnie Ross, Head of 343 Industries. “We want to amaze players with the sheer size of the worlds and battles they’ll experience, even as they question everything they thought they knew about its heroes, marvels and mysteries. #HunttheTruth is only the beginning and we can’t wait to debut the game to Xbox fans around the world at E3 this June.”

On March 22, Xbox and 343 Industries revealed “Hunt the Truth” – an episodic narrative audio series, now available on HuntTheTruth.tumblr.com. The series stars Keegan-Michael Key (“Key and Peele”) as Benjamin Giraud, a war-journalist who slowly unearths startling new revelations about who the Master Chief really is, forcing listeners to reevaluate what they know about humanity’s greatest hero. Episodes are released each week via Tumblr and syndicated across multiple podcast platforms, leading up to E3 in June 2015.

Chris Pereira wrote:In Halo 5’s Campaign, You'll Always Have Three Companions

Whether you're playing Halo 5: Guardians alone or with others, the campaign will see you accompanied by three Spartans that can be controlled by other players or take commands from you.

The Master Chief's companions are members of Blue Team, according to Game Informer. Blue Team has traditionally been led by the Master Chief and is comprised of three others Spartans (Linda, Kelly, and Fred) who have been present in the overall Halo canon, but were never featured in the games themselves.

These characters will appear during cutscenes, rather than simply being partners in combat who disappear any time the story is being advanced. When playing on your own, you'll be able to give these characters commands. Alternatively, you can have co-op players assume control of them, with each one having their own distinct loadout.

The portion of Halo 5's campaign that focuses on Spartan Locke will see him accompanied by a group as well, in this case Fireteam Osiris. They're tasked with tracking down the Master Chief and killing him or bringing him back after he and Blue Team are said to have gone AWOL. Locke's story is featured in the Halo: Nightfall series, and has been further expanded in the ongoing Hunt the Truth podcast.

Both Blue Team and Osiris look to be the new Spartans who were introduced in the game's cover art back in April.

Halo 5: Guardians is due out on Xbox One on October 27. Expect to hear much more about it during E3 next week.

As far as I know, you've never been able to control AI companions before in Halo. It sounds very cool. And the companions are his childhood friends and fellow soldiers from the early Halo books, which I read and really enjoyed as a kid. Very cool.

- Whether playing as Chief or Locke, you're accompanied by a fireteam of 3 A.I. which you can command/issue orders to in the campaign
- Highlighting an enemy and hitting up on the D-Pad orders your team to assault an enemy
- Other commands include picking up certain weapons, using turrets, driving warthog, etc
- AI teammates can revive you as well
- Confirmed: Linda, Kelly, and Fred join the Chief
- Game starts out before Chief is on the run
- Audio has been heavily reworked from the ground up for Xbox One (bullet sounds, debris, etc)
- 8 months after Halo 4 ends, cataclysmic events are tearing apart star systems, these are tied to the Guardians (Forerunner entities shown in the first teaser trailer)
- Game Informer played the second mission, taking command of Chief and Blue Team to take back an ONI research vessel abandoned for 2 years
- Locke's team is described as having more advanced tech than Blue Team, members use the "ATS" (Artermis Tracking System) on their armor to bring out points of interests in levels
- Team banter replaces interactions with Cortana to flesh out the characters
- There are multiple routes to take in levels/multiple ways to tackle objectives
- Difficulty scales to the number of co-op players
- The zealous religious Covenant are slowly abandoning Jul M'dama's leadership from Halo 4
- Spoilers: (link to original article)
- XBL Gold is not required for online co-op.
- Halo 5 will launch with over 20 multiplayer maps
- 15 DLC maps by June 2016
- All maps will be free
- Teases a "completely new, epic multiplayer experience" they'll reveal at E3. Incorporates "all aspects of the Halo sandbox for the first time ever"
- This MP experience is described as a "dream of ours and all our fans to build something like this"
