http://culture.vg/features/segabastard/ ... the-wii-u/It's a great article; I've nothing to say on this score. So I am just going to point out its mistakes.
1. "Learn from history", his first heading says, and his message is that journalists should pay more attention to their mistakes, and learn from them. But does HE pay attention to the history OF PHILOSOPHY, which teaches us that JOURNALISTS ARE INCAPABLE OF LEARNING? He says he likes Insomnia, and he has given me permission to republish whatever articles from his site that I want, but he has never bothered to
visit the site (I know, because I have statistics) since the redesign, even though he's had a free account since day 1. He keeps whining in article after article after article, for years and years and decades, about how journalists and gaming sites suck, and yet he purposefully ignores the best videogame site there is, presumably because it has a thing or two to teach him, while he prefers to get his kicks from teaching others.

I never owned one. I've also never owned a Razor scooter. I was an adult when both products were released, so I had no interest in either. I can't say I've lived my life with complete respect for Einstein's definition of insanity, and I've certainly had enough spins on the Nintendo carousel to learn that its machines are for children. Equipped with this knowledge, the Wii was easy to avoid.
Awesome. What a cool dude. He managed to "avoid" the Wii, and presumably also the one or two dozen great games released for it. I haven't played many games on the machine, but I HAVE played
Kororinpa, and that game is reason enough to buy the system.
The hardcore gamer needs ONE great game. That's all he needs to buy a system. And even a merely decent game will do, most of the time. If you require anything more in order to buy a system you are a casual.

Nick wrote:I doubt I'll ever forget that IGN explained to us that the Wii was going to revolutionize first-person shooters; I cannot find a single multi-platform FPS that didn't receive its lowest score on the Wii.
Not as big a howler as the previous ones, but worth pointing out nevertheless. Multi-platform scores mean diddly squat for this issue: you have to look at EXCLUSIVES, because these are the ones that will tend to make full use of the control scheme. But you didn't buy the goddamn system, so how could you have an opinion on the subject? Maybe some of the Metroid games did neat things with the controller? Maybe those Red Steel games? Maybe techniques invented for those will be adopted and refined for the controllers currently in development for the Oculus Rift? You wouldn't know, because your hatred of a faceless multinational and your miserly, penny-pinching attitude towards videogame hardware will forever prevent you from finding out. You are good with googling and tables and data -- with the JOURNALISTIC, that is to say, aspect of "research" -- but you SUCK with REAL research, which demands genuinely HARDCORE, PASSIONATE people who don't give a shit about spending 100 or 200 extra bucks in order to be able to sample the FULL range of games available on the market.

Nick wrote:Ultimately, the same was true for the Wii as it has been for all Nintendo machines. Nintendo machines exist to sell Nintendo games to children.
Bullshit. If you were not such a raging Sega fanboy you would not be able to look at the gigantic Famicom and Super Famicom libraries and say that they were made for children. Again, dumb statement that only a journalist would say -- precisely the kind of person that he is excoriating in his article.

Nick wrote:What is the problem with the Wii U? People seem to have learned their lessons with the Wii.
Fair enough. That certainly explains how badly the Wii U has been selling. But what the fuck does any of that matter if the Wii U has Bayonetta 2?
None of it matters at all -- IF, that is to say, you are more interested in PLAYING great games than in WHINING why bad reviewers and commentators do not suddenly and miraculously become better at reviewing and commentating than the GENIUS reviewers and commentators that you can't even be bothered to read...

Nick wrote:The Wii accumulated the absolute worst library of any major videogame console in history. It demonstrably, empirically has the most wretched, unplayable, unwanted, unsold roster of bargain bin fodder ever to be compiled for a major home game system. This was the exact opposite of every prediction made (besides here at SB).
And besides Insomnia, Postback, and gamengai, among perhaps other sites you also don't bother reading because they are actually good and wouldn't give you any opportunities for whining about their content.
...
Apart from all that, great article dude. (Not that you'll ever read this.)
