Sherif Saed wrote:Far Cry 4 is in the works at Ubisoft Shanghai, according to a LinkedIn CV

Far Cry 4 is all but announced, and a recent CV listing on LinkedIn shows that Ubisoft Shanghai is working on “the next” Far Cry game.

Multiple studios working on one game has become standard practice for the French publisher, one main studio handles most of the design process and the rest is done with the help of other Ubisoft-owned studios. So there’s a good chance some other studio is actually leading development on what could be Far Cry 4.

This isn’t the first time we heard some Far Cry 4 whispers through grapevine either. Last October composer Cliff Martinez said he was working on the game, and Ubisoft has always been keen on the idea of a sequel to Far Cry 3.

Do you think Ubisoft will be announcing this properly at E3? Let us know your thoughts.

http://www.vg247.com/2014/02/20/far-cry ... er-rumour/

Far Cry 4 is allegedly set in the Himalayas, according to industry insider Superannuation. He’s got a strong track record with this kind of thing, but his claim should still be treated as rumour.

The claim follows rumours that Far Cry 4 is currently in development over at Ubisoft Shanghai, according to the LinkedIn CV of one employee.

It went down over on Twitter:

Far Cry 4 sounds super boring from the rumors. It's the third game more or less transposed to the Himalayas or adjacent locale + monsters(?)

— superannuation (@supererogatory) February 5, 2014

Well, I thought I sent that as a DM. Oh well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

— superannuation (@supererogatory) February 5, 2014

Oops. But this isn’t entirely a far-fetched claim, seeing as Far Cry has already done jungles and deserts, it could be that Ubisoft Shanghai wants to try out a snow environment next. The mention of monsters could come as worrying for some though.

Ubisoft has declined to comment.

What do you think?

Eurogamer has leaked some details on the next Far Cry game: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014- ... -elephants

Tom Phillips wrote:Far Cry 4 will be released in the first half of 2015 and be set around the snowy mountain ranges of the Himalayas, Eurogamer can confirm.

The switch in location marks a drastic change for the adventure series, which is usually more associated with sandy, tropical locales. But it will also pave the way for some new features - such as the ability to saddle up and ride elephants, people familiar with the project told Eurogamer.

Far Cry 4 is still some way away, but we understand that Ubisoft is currently aiming to release it during the next financial year (before the end of March 2015).

Our first official glimpse at Far Cry 4 will come much sooner, however - the title is set to be shown off in some form during Ubisoft's annual press conference at E3 in June, one source said. Expect PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. We're unsure at this stage whether current-gen versions are also in the works.

A setting based around the Himalayas was first hinted at on Twitter last month by tipster Superannuation, who also suggested it would include some kind of monsters.

Far Cry 4's gameplay will remain similar to that in Far Cry 3 - presumably including a large focus on hunting local fauna. The world's map will be structured in a familiar fashion too, a separate source said, with outposts for you to liberate.

Far Cry 3 launched in November 2012 and was followed by the excellent retro spin-off Blood Dragon around six months later - suggesting that, when finished, Far Cry 4 will have had around two years of development time.

Ubisoft's E3 2014 press conference will also host other surprises - the publisher is apparently looking to build on the positive reception of reveals such as Watch Dogs at E3 2012 and Tom Clancy's The Division last year.

The Division will be shown off again, of course, alongside other likely attendees such as upcoming open world racer The Crew and the recently-leaked Assassin's Creed 5: Unity.

Ubisoft declined to comment when contacted by Eurogamer.

Merged your post with the existing thread.

Also note that we only add system tags if the platforms have been officially confirmed. Until then, no tags.

http://blog.ubi.com/far-cry-4-release-date-kyrat/

Gary Steinman wrote:Pack away your tropical gear, because Far Cry 4 is heading to the Himalayas.

Announced today, Far Cry 4 will release this year on November 18 in the US and November 20 in EMEA territories. The game will be available on both generations of consoles – PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 – along with Windows PC.

Taking a sharp turn away from the lush island jungles of the top-rated Far Cry 3, Far Cry 4 is set in Kyrat, an untamed region currently ruled by a despotic self-appointed king. But don’t be lulled into a false sense of security by the achingly beautiful views; Kyrat is a wild land full of perils. Once again, players will be able to craft their own stories as they travel through this exotic open world teeming with wildlife – using their wits along with an assortment of powerful weapons and diverse vehicles.

“Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans’ expectations,” said Dan Hay, Executive Producer. “Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry 4 will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we’re eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months.”

Development on Far Cry 4 is being led by Ubisoft Montreal in collaboration with Red Storm Entertainment, Ubisoft Toronto, Ubisoft Shanghai and Ubisoft Kiev.

For an exclusive first look at Far Cry 4, be sure to tune in to Ubisoft’s media briefing at E3.

Play footage with developer commentary: http://www.gamestar.de/videos/action,9/ ... 75408.html

Technically it looks great. Aesthetically, I like some aspects, but the "gypsy"-style nature of the peasants who populate the game's setting, and their vehicles, towns, etc., make the world look ugly. And everything seems to be packed closely together, which intensifies the problem. The wide empty vistas of FC2 are nowhere to be seen...

Mechanically, it does sound like they are overdoing it with the collectibles, etc. angle from other recent Ubi games like AC4, etc. I got really excited when they mentioned co-op, but it works in a weird way. You can invite a friend to join you mid-game, at which point all the main missions are turned off and you can do all the side missions etc. together, which is great because otherwise I wouldn't have done them, and I guess when your friend leaves you can continue the main quest (and so can he). It sounds like a good compromise, especially if they can pull it off realistically and provide a good narrative justification for it (as in, where did your friend come from? etc.) From what I know of FC3's co-op mode this sounds like a better solution.

I also like the climbing mechanics, but the wingsuit seems overused a la Just Cause 2. We'll see...

New, 14-minute long footage:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvzKsmqJIFk

Interesting to see at 8:10 the new aiming for the mortar. It is from an overhead perspective.

Also, at 9:35 you can see the player piloting a helicopter while also shooting from it which is new for the series.

Best atmosphere in a snow-themed setting ever. Better than Lost Planet, Metal Gear Solid, Code: Veronica, etc. Can't wait.

David Bierton wrote:Far Cry 4 is a game that feels perfectly at home on the current-gen consoles, with smooth frame-rates, detailed environments free from unsightly pop-in, and some superb art and effect work that combines to create an absolutely beautiful environment and solid gameplay. There's the sense that the Dunia engine hasn't been radically overhauled from its last-gen iteration - but it's a great fit for the new console hardware, and the upgrades that have been implemented add an excellent layer of additional sheen.

In terms of the multi-platform comparison, the PS4 gets the nod here for its sharper native 1080p presentation and almost solid 30fps frame-rates. In comparison, the image quality isn't quite as pristine on the Xbox One, although frame-rates are slightly higher under load, but the quality of the presentation overall remains excellent. It's a great buy on either platform.

The PC version could have been brilliant - and in some respects it is - but we're surprised that the game shipped with obvious issues not found in the console releases. On the one hand, Ubisoft deserve kudos for the range of additions made to the game over its console counterpart. They're not game-changing as such - indeed, some of the ultra options show next to no improvement at all - but the overall impression is that high-end GPU owners do get a thorough work-out for their kit, and the Nvidia enhancements (TXAA apart) do help. At the same time, there's enough scalability here that those with entry-level enthusiast gaming hardware should get a decent experience. Unfortunately, the game features the same problem as Watch Dogs: genuine issues with background streaming resulting in off-putting stutter. We're looking into potential user-side solutions, but really and truly, Ubisoft must fix this before we can recommend the PC release.

FAR CRY 4 – ESCAPE FROM DURGESH PRISON

Anne Lewis wrote:Get ready to Escape from Durgesh Prison on January 13, 2015. Players will have to complete a series of challenges while racing against the clock to earn themselves a spot on the leaderboards – but if you go down, you won’t be getting back up. Escape from Durgesh Prison will introduce permadeath into the world of Far Cry 4, so you’ll need to be extra careful when planning your exit strategy.

Kyrat is dangerous enough when you’re fully armed and capable of respawning. But facing the dangers of this treacherous nation… with nothing in your arsenal? That’s going to be tricky. After Ajay and Hurk wake up in Yuma’s prison, stripped of all their weapons, they will need to complete challenges to find new weapons and unlock skills. Take your time to plan and be careful, but not too much time because the clock is still ticking and you need to reach the extraction point.

Escape from Durgesh Prison can be played in both single-player and co-op mode. Should you die, you will have to start the mission over again, but this time you’ll have all the knowledge and skills you gained in your previous attempts. This DLC will have you racing across Kyrat to complete side objectives to recover all your lost weapons and upgrade your gear before one last assault on Yuma’s forces.

If you grabbed the Far Cry 4 Season Pass, you’ll receive Escape from Durgesh Prison for free, but it can also be purchased solo for $9.99. The Season Pass is still available for $29.99; you can get all the details on other goodies in the Pass (including more missions and a new PvP multiplayer mode) as well as a look at the Season Pass trailer here.
