Let's laugh at people's GOTY/top games lists

I bet you anything you want this thread was inspired by my GOTY feature (now viewed 52,000+ times):

Your historic GotY awards
https://www.neogaf.com/threads/your-his ... s.1504267/

They had a similar thread a few years back that included two runner-up options: a perfect copy of my format; and they failed to link me in both cases.

I scrolled down a bit for the lols. You have the guy who listed all the soulsborne games. The guy whose every single pick was made by Nintendo. The guy who only plays "quirky" crap—or at least pretends to only play those. It's pathetic. And behind every pathetic list, of course, there is a pathetic gamer.

At least there are few to no "indie" titles on their lists. That's something. I am sure the same thread on ResetEra would be much worse.

https://thegameawards.com/

The famous awards parody is returning December 12. Last year it was God of War, RDR2, Celeste, that Obra Dinn thing, et al. What will it be this year?

Reminder that 2014 GOTY was Dragon Age: Inquisition and 2016 Overwatch, so anything is possible! My money is on something that sold a lot. I don't know, I just have a hunch. And for "indie" winner something that sold a lot for an "indie" game. Just have a gut feeling, don't know why.

Death Stranding already won all the awards.

Geoff Keighley and his production house have just revealed the date for the next Game Awards: December 12, 2019. The show, which will likely once again feature Geoff’s BFF Hideo Kojima, is a sort of VMA for the gaming industry. Though not as serious as awards like DICE, the Game Awards always provide plenty of great moments, and often greater world premiere reveals.

This year, it’s likely that Death Stranding, the game developed by Keighley’s crush Hideo Kojima and featuring Keighley himself, will win Game of the Year, Playstation Game of the Year, Action Game of the Year, Fan Choice Game of the Year, Indie Game of the Year, and somehow also take home the Xbox and Nintendo prizes.

We know all of this even though the game hasn’t been released yet. Because GEOFF KEIGHLEY LOVES HIDEO KOJIMA AND IS ALSO IN THE GAME ITSELF, AND HAS BEEN TALKING ABOUT THE GAME FOR YEARS NOW.

But it’s still a fun time.

December 12! Tickets are on sale now.

Untitled Goose Game ran away with the GDC Awards game of the year trophy
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2020/0 ... ar-trophy/

An entire year of tens of thousands of highly trained specialists working on countless millions' worth of hardware and software to produce, as the crowning achievement of their labors... an essentially 8-bit game starring a goose, with almost no complexity and difficulty.

If this were true, and this was really the best thing the industry accomplished last year, it would be reason enough to shut it down. Thankfully, it's not even remotely true. It's just hipsters being hipsters.
