Great videogame music

Unread postby icycalm » 03 Dec 2011 20:13

Post your favorite tracks, either via links on YouTube and similar sites, if you can find them (and this is the preferred method), or otherwise simply by listing the tracks' names and titles of the games in which they can be found. As an aside, note that I will be monitoring this thread to add tracks to the upcoming Insomnia Mix, and if I pick a track you recommended I will add your (user)name to the accompanying tracklist. Note that only music coming from good games is eligible for the Mix (i.e. minimum three stars), but for the purposes of this thread this doesn't matter -- you can post music from shitty games too if you want, just as long as you think it's good music.

The temporary location of the Insomnnia Mix is here:

http://culture.vg/insomnia-mix.html

but please do not link it anywhere outside this forum until the address has been finalized and the list is on the frontpage.

Also, only music created specifically for a videogame qualifies, i.e. no Michael Jackson from Moonwalker or GTA, no matter how awesome he is.

And you can also list tracks that other people have already listed, if you really want people to know what your tastes are like, but we are of course mainly interested in stuff that hasn't been listed...

Can you retards stop editing your posts with new tracks? This is a FORUM for God's sake, not a fucking WIKI. I mean what do you morons think, that we are going to be checking up on every single post in this thread a couple times a day for the rest of our lives just in case you decided to edit something in them? Does that make sense to you morons? Especially annoying are stealth edits like Chaos's, about which I have already warned him against elsewhere.

So. DON'T EDIT YOU GODDAMN MORONS. Make a new post for fuck's sake, SO THAT PEOPLE CAN KNOW THAT YOU MADE IT.

How hard can that be to understand?

Noriyuki Asakura - Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven - Fate ~SADAME~
Harry Gregson-Williams - Metal Gear Solid Main Theme (Metal Gear Solid 3 Version)

Maybe a short version of the MGS3 track would be preferable, seeing how it gets kind of boring after precisely 2 minutes.

The Rough World/Journey to Silius track that SriK linked is a little crap -- there's a weird noise at the beginning when it starts, and when it ends it ends abruptly. I've uploaded it nevertheless, but if anyone can find or make a better version, please link it here or upload it in some way (you can also use the "attachment" feature of this forum, which can be found right under the post box in the post new reply screen).

Here you go. I have high quality MP3s on my hard drive of all the songs I linked, so if you want anything else I can upload that too.

This will do for now. As for the rest, I will eventually offer the entire folder for download, and once that is available, people can compare the tracks with what they have on their hard drives, and if they have better versions of some of them they will be able to post them here for uploading. For the time being I am mainly interested in getting the track data down, so if you spot any errors let me know.

The King of Fighters XI - an improvised concerto
Magaki's theme.

Garou Densetsu Wild Ambition Arrange Sound Trax - Geese ni Shouyu
This is my favorite version of the Geese ni ... theme, although the game it originates from is not so good. (Other versions can be found here and here, but they are very different.)

Thunder Force IV Special Digest - Evil destroyer
A promotional arrangement.

Link to the mp3 files.

My favourite track from any Cave game.

Finally reaching Stage 4 and being rewarded with this awesome track was a joy.
