Wildman delivers an action-role-playing experience that only a developer like Gas Powered Games can deliver. Think of it as a spiritual successor to our classic PC game Dungeon Siege, with a twist.

This is what Wildman is all about:

Explore the World: Go on RPG Adventures in amazing and epic environments; discover secret dungeons; fight battles against rampaging hordes of monsters; find and equip new weapons and armor.

Evolve or Die: Steal technology from your defeated opponents and use it against them in future battles.

Smash and Destroy: Advanced physics and destructible environments deliver highly visceral (and bloody) combat.

Go to War: Build your army and fight against opposing champions armies for great rewards in hand-crafted War Zones.

And an article on the financial issues the company is currently facing:

Not too excited over this. I'd much rather have seen the Kings and Castles RTS powered by the Supreme Commander engine. But the longer the company stays in business, the greater the chance it'll get made, so good luck to them I guess.

Actually, looking at it a bit more, it might be somewhat more interesting than it appears at first glance:

Wildman represents the union of our experience working on pure RPG and RTS games, and we’re pulling some of the best features from our past games into the Wildman experience.

From Dungeon Siege: The core action-RPG experience. Equip weapons and gear, cast spells. Fight monsters. Level-up. Find loot.

From Supreme Commander: The core RTS experience. Create armies. Explore a tech tree that lets you customize your hero and armies. Adjust your strategy on-the-fly.

From Demigod: You don’t fight alone in Wildman. Waves of allies fight alongside you in the War Zones as you push the battle ahead, seize key control points, and destroy the enemy citadels.

Wildman is exciting because it’s something new, but it’s also reminiscent of these games we’ve made and loved. We want to make this game, and we have the right people to do it.

The "core RTS experience" however also includes BUILDING BASES, dear Taylor, and no matter what else you put in the game it is this that elevates it above standard action fare, however complex the action might be. So yeah, it may end up more interesting than your average ARPG, but I would still rather have a new RTS from these guys.

And by the way, also this:

Chris Taylor founded Gas Powered Games in 1998. We’ve been an independent developer for our entire history.

Derek Yu says otherwise, and I don't remember your games being featured on the TIGSource frontpage. So send the man his cut, and he'll let you in on his little club, otherwise forget it.

Wildman has attracted the attention of publishers keen to back the project – but only if its crowdfunding is successful enough to demonstrate sufficient interest.

“We’ve gotten a lot of phone calls from people who are interested in publishing Wildman,” Gas Powered Games founder Chris Taylor told Rock, Paper, Shotgun.

“But they would love to see us raise the money on Kickstarter, and then they’ll take us the rest of the way.”

Taylor said Gas Powered Games would have up to $3 million in total at its disposal should a publisher sign on after a successful Kickstarter campaign.

Unfortunately, Wildman’s Kickstarter is not going well. With only five days left on the clock, it has raised just $476,000 of its $1.1 million goal. Taylor knew early on he couldn’t count on crowd-funding, which is why he chose to issue lay-offs before he ran out of money for severance payments.

“The numbers were not there. They weren’t even close. 75K on the first day. Other comparable Kickstarters have done 300k, 700k,” he said.

“Feargus [Urquhart, CEO] and Obsidian made their goal in 24 hours. We were off by over an order of magnitude.”

Wildman is an action RPG with RTS elements. If it is not successfully funded, Gas Powered Games will close. The developer has had a hard run of it lately, with a bunch of canned projects, and it makes no money from back catalogue sales.

Greetings Kickstarters.

We have some news today. We are canceling the Wildman Kickstarter.

At this point, it makes sense for us to focus our attention on other ways to keep Gas Powered Games running. Unfortunately, we are unable to share any specifics in public. When we have news to share, we will be posting it on our site. If you want status updates, or if you want to continue discussing Wildman and/or this Kickstarter, please consider migrating over to forums.gaspowered.com.

We are profoundly grateful to those of you who backed this project and Gas Powered Games. Your passion and hard work put us in a position to write this exciting new chapter in the history of GPG.

Gas Powered Games has been snapped up by World of Tanks developer Wargaming in a suprise announcement.

In a note sent to VG247, the developer confirmed it would, “Take full ownership of Gas Powered Games, bringing into its fold a contingent of veteran developers, including CEO and company founder Chris Taylor.”

It follows Gas Powered Games’ failure to get Wildman funded on Kickstarter, and announcement that it was looking elsewhere for help. Things looked bleak for the studio, until today.

“Gas Powered Games’ heritage and development pedigree shows us just how valuable an addition Chris and his company will make to the Wargaming family,” said Victor Kislyi, CEO of Wargaming. “Gas Powered Games has a long track record of providing incredibly engaging AAA gaming experiences and we can’t wait to start working with them.”

CEO of Gas Powered Games Chris Taylor added, “Wargaming growth in recent years has been tremendous, and we’re looking forward to joining one of the fastest growing gaming companies in the world. I’m sure our experience and expertise will help us contribute even more to Wargaming’s global success.”
