Right now, if I could have any upcoming game, I'd pick Diablo III. The next thing would be a machine that could properly run it.

Just got done updating the Coming Soon part of the Most Wanted section on the frontpage, after having neglected it... well, since Insomnia 3.0's launch, as a matter of fact. Later on today I'll also update the Out Now part, and offer some explanation here of the purpose of this section and how I plan to run it.

Renamed the Coming Soon section of the frontpage to Most Wanted, and updated it. The original idea behind this section (and also the Out Now section, soon to be updated too and renamed to Now Playing) was to provide a list, in a prominent place on the site, of 30 cool-looking games available either immediately, or in the near future. The idea was to counter all the OMG GAMES ARE DIEYING! pseudo-intellectual fagotry, so that, whoever was confronted with the list but nevertheless kept whining, could at least be classified as a pseudo-intellectual fagot who doesn't like games anyway, and his whining could be duly ignored. Now that the News forum is so active, however, there's a second use for the list: to highlight which I think are the most interesting upcoming games, so that they don't get lost in the sea of updates about less interesting-looking ones. This is by no means to discourage anyone from opening threads about new games: one needs to be aware of ALL (if possible) the half-decent and even barely decent upcoming games in order to compile the list of the best of them in the first place. Now obviously the best games will sooner or later rise to the surface, either because we keep posting more updates about them than about other, less interesting-looking games, or eventually when they get moved to the Games forum and people start posting impressions, linking reviews, etc. But it doesn't hurt to also have a thread dedicated to pointing these games out as early as possible, both for our own use (pre-orders, hardware purchases, shopping lists) and also for the benefit of people who only check in once or twice a week and don't have the time to shift through several pages' worth of news threads on their rare visits.

So, without further ado, here's my list of most wanted upcoming games at the moment:

1. Unclaimed World
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4076

2. Cyberpunk 2077
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4102

3. Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=3893

4. Age of Wonders III
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4240

5. SimCity (2013)
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4090

6. Watch Dogs
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=3875

7. Planetary Annihilation
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=3971

8. Wasteland 2
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4262

9. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=3282

10. The Wonderful 101
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=3876

11. Bayonetta 2
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=3902

12. Hitokui no Oowashi Trico
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=2826

13. Fuse
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4109

14. Gears of War: Judgment
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=3956

15. Aliens: Colonial Marines
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4032

I arrived at this list in the following manner. First, I asked myself which 15 upcoming games I'd most like to have on my desk right now, if I could have any of them I wanted. This gave me the 15 games. Then, I asked myself which of these 15 games I'd like to keep on my desk, if I could only keep one. This gave me my number 1 title. Then, I asked myself which of the other 14 games I'd like to keep on my desk if my first choice were cancelled and I could only keep one of the remaining 14, which gave me my number 2 title, and so on and so forth until all 15 titles were ranked. And then I posted the list on the frontpage.

Some observations on the list: Unclaimed World sounds amazing from the latest details posted in the thread, but I remain sceptical of whether 2 dudes can deliver. Still, I definitely want to believe, which is why the game is number 1. Then all 3 upcoming Platinum games are up there (an amazing accomplishment for a developer), plus 3 4-player co-op shooters (which apart from the 4-player feature do not seem exactly inspired, which is why they are at the bottom of the lot), plus 2 kickstarted games, plus several free-roaming titles near the top (though unfortunately none at the very top, because none of them appear world-beating -- except perhaps for Cyberpunk, but I'd need to see more details before I became more hyped), and a couple grand-strategy and city-building games that look really cool. Trico is also there because, once more, I really want to believe, but in general I'd like to avoid vaporware (Devil's Third!), wishful-thinking titles (Master of Magic 2!), or stuff that's just been announced and is too far off or has had no solid media released about it yet (e.g. Deus Ex 4, Destiny, Halo 5, etc.)

So that's my list accounted for. If you want to post your own lists, you can do so here, but please follow my format and make sure that all the games on your list have threads. If some of them don't, make the threads before you post your list. And don't pad your list with games you don't care about just to reach 15. If you are only looking forward to one game, just post that one. You can also post new lists as many times as you like, as long your new list is significantly different from your previous one. So don't post a new list just for a single new game -- wait until at least half of your list has changed before posting the new one. And don't edit previous lists. I mean obviously edit it if you've made some kind of error or typo, but don't go back a week later to change one or two games. Let the list be a snapshot of what you were looking forward to at one point in time, so that you can look back on it in the years to come and see how well your instincts fared.

You can also post comments on your list or anyone else's here, if you'd like, but keep them brief like mine and save the longer ones for the individual threads. And for those who don't know how to use the forum's Search feature to locate all the threads, here's detailed instructions on how to do it. Go here:

http://culture.vg/forum/search

If you are looking for, say, a Devil May Cry game, type devil, then select "Topic titles only" and hit Search. Then click on the title of the game you're looking for, and you'll be sent to a url that looks something like this:

http://culture.vg/forum/topic?f=1&t=333 ... vil#p13604

You now need to find the thread's number. This is the very first number in the url. Copy-paste that into the following url:

http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=XXXX

... and you are done. This is how to make your list as nice and neat as mine. And double-check all your urls after you post to make sure they work.

You can also list ports, remakes and localizations if you like, but in that case note that you'll usually find the relevant threads in the Games forum, except if I haven't had a chance to move them there yet. And use the localized title, etc. in your list. If the title is the same, list the region in parenthesis next to it. E.g. Monster Hunter 8 (US), or UK, FR, DE, etc.

Wow, it was really hard to put these in order. Every time I thought I had a good idea of what would be more fun, I realised another way in which a different game might be awesome. Regardless, in putting this list together I've become more hyped for upcoming games than I have been for a while.

1. Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=3893

2. Bioshock Infinite
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=3304

3. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4052

4. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=3282

5. Total War: Rome II
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4098

6. Destiny
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4055

7. Planetary Annihilation
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=3971

8. Crysis 3
http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=3861

Finally updated the list with many new games. Will try to update it more regularly from now on. If you notice that a game on it has been released and I've forgotten to replace it, let me know here and I'll take care of it asap.

I have excluded games of which we have only seen a CG or short cinematic trailer, e.g., Scalebound, Zelda and Uncharted.

  1. Batman: Arkham Knight
    http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4818

  2. Sunset Overdrive
    http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4370

  3. Bloodborne
    http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4856

  4. Quantum Break
    http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4512

  5. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
    http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4031

  6. Assassin's Creed Unity
    http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4826

  7. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
    http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4838

  8. Devil's Third
    http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=3279

  9. Destiny
    http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4055

  10. Evolve
    http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4757

  11. Battlefield Hardline
    http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4901

  12. Dragon Age: Inqusition
    http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4080

  13. Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth
    http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4841

  14. Elite: Dangerous
    http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4124

  15. Psycho Break
    http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=4149

My list is not completely geared towards what I think I will have the best experience with, it is also influenced by what I get excited thinking about. These two things are strongly connected of course but for me they are not exactly the same. Factors that would affect this would include, how close the game is to release and the footage that I have seen so far. Some notable instances of this would be, Bloodborne, which I am almost certain will be better than Sunset Overdrive and probably also better than Arkham Knight, and Elite: Dangerous which could be replaced with No Man's Sky or Star Citizen but it's coming out sooner so I am more excited about it.

You can also link your Steam wishlists here. Here's mine:

http://steamcommunity.com/id/icycalm/wishlist/

Note that it is in order of "what I feel like playing soon", not "best game" order. For example, since I've been playing a lot of tactics and strategy games lately, the new Wolfenstein is at the top because I feel like playing a quick, flashy, cinematic shooter.

I am gonna keep adding games until I've got hundreds of them. It's a really useful tool! You just add all the crap you're excited to try, and when you are ready for a new game you just browse it and see what's on sale. I just wish you could add console games, games on other distribution platforms, and old games not available online. Basically all games. Now that's an idea for a third-party, unaffiliated site.

Actually, after you've added a few dozen games or so it is impossible to keep it ranked because of how simplistic the editing function is, so I just sort by price now to immediately get the cheapest and most discounted games.

Currently working on an overhaul of the Most Wanted section on the frontpage. The goal is to have at least 20 (or maybe even 40, if I remove the Now Playing section), of the best upcoming games linked, and their respective threads in the forums adorned with custom headers. Just did Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, The Division, No Man's Sky, The Witcher 3 and The Order. Note that the ranking is currently messed up because I just replaced the previous, now released, games with the new ones, without adjusting it. Still working on it, but at least now you can click through to the threads and see how cool they look.

I rearranged the Most Wanted games on the frontpage by order of release date. I think it's pretty cool this way, check it out.

I think I'll replace the Now Playing section with 20 more Most Wanted games, to bring the total up to 40. And then maybe I'll add 10 more to bring it up to 50. Then whenever someone says something about "what gaming has become" you'll be able to point them to the Insomnia frontpage for links to no less than 50 upcoming awesome-looking games, which ought to shut them up if they have any sense in them.

Help me to keep the release dates updated by letting me know of release date changes in the games' individual threads.

I doubled the size of the Most Wanted section to 30 games via the use of tabs, so that the Out Now section (as I renamed the erstwhile Now Playing section, because the old name was too long to fit in the tab name) also has 30 games. So you will see me bump 15 news threads due to this. Just sayin'.

"Insomnia's Most Wanted" trailer reel just passed 200 trailers: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... XVyolQO3wj

Image

Next stop, 300.

One great thing about it is that YT keeps it sorted in order of publication, even when I add older trailers. So you can get an instant idea of what the newest trailers are. And if you scroll right to the bottom, you get Dead Island 2 lol, six years old now. The bottom of the list is development hell territory: Metroid Prime 4, The Last Night, SMT5, etc.

The following Insomnia trailers now play in the trailer reel. I don't know why it didn't occur to me to do this earlier. Probably because the PA events were dormant.

Insomnia | Videogame Culture
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbPYIvqoPGI

Insomnia Clan Wars Teaser
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYyg52r3dLI

Insomnia Clan League Teaser
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Jtc6MK57qw

The Best Videogame Player In The World
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rboJGO_2SpE

Eventually, I'll make trailers for D&D: Battlegrounds and PA Battle Royale, and Uberust too once the time has come to attempt it again, when the clan is larger.

P.S. The Best Videogame Player In The World is coming. No bs, January 1 we begin the 2021 season. We have a great number of people for it, and I am sorting out my business so I'll have the time required for it. We'll run it leisurely throughout the year the same way we're running King of the Planet now, it'll be great, just wait and see. By that point I'll have streamlined D&D and the PA events and we'll be used to the schedules, and it should be easy to add this on top of those. Remember, we'll have a full year to play a mere 12 games—12 games that we would have played anyway, or that we SHOULD be playing. And so we'll play them, in the coolest competitive format ever conceived.

Also the winner will get a unique T-shirt. Even I won't have it—unless I win, which let's face it I probably will.

HYPE section updated with September 2021 releases. I also added a lot of games that were missing from July and August, plus the star ratings to the June games. So now we have four months entirely updated: June, July, August and September. More coming soon.

I also updated some banners with better ones, and some Japanese games with their Japanese banners.

Just have to point out that mid-September is a fantastic time for those who like 2D action.

Image

We have a good-looking side-view action title and a gorgeous overhead ARPG on consecutive days. It's like being back in the early '90s. Even the genres are complementary because you can take a break from each game by playing the other one. I might spend both days at home streaming both of them.

Interestingly, neither game is Japanese. They are Korean and Malaysian I think, respectively.

I had been following both games for years, and to see them released one day apart is pretty incredible.

Eastward may well be the best-looking 2D game of all time btw. Top 3 at least.

Did a small update to the Hype section. You can now see six of March's most promising titles with their correct release dates: Elex II, Shadow Warrior 3, Babylon's Fall, The Settlers (2022), Ghostwire: Tokyo and Weird West.

I'll be spending this week updating the release schedules, culminating with a bunch of reviews and the revival of the review section.
