Avalanche Studios working on steampunk-themed title

Responding on Twitter to someone asking if there are new games coming up soon, Avalanche Studios responds "Really can't say, but keep your eyes open in 2013 :)"

In addition to that, Avalanche Studios posted a job vacancy for Technical Cinematic Designer just before Christmas (which has now been removed), which read "Contract starting in March until the end of November 2013 with the possibility to turn into a permanent position."

When you take into account the DLC, that timing seems to fall in line with work on a title to be released at the end of this year or early next year. Taken together with the tweet, Avalanche Studios is asking us to keep our eyes open in 2013 for a project that a Technical Cinematic Designer will be working on until November.

There are massive amounts of conjecture involved here and the project might not even be Just Cause 3 but there has certainly been talk around the sequel.

Just Cause 3 was first rumoured in October 2011, when talk suggested it would be a release in 2012 (source: CVG). Christofer Sundberg, co-founder of Avalanche, then told Eurogamer "it's just a rumour and we're not releasing any game in 2012."

Since then, job listings and even Christmas cards have pointed towards the existence of Just Cause 3, although nothing has been officially confirmed.

Our fingers are crossed for something happening sooner rather than later.

Avalanche Studios teases unannounced game

Avalanche Studios Christofer Sundberg has tweeted a teaser image of a game in development at the firm. You can have a look at it through the link. Last week, it was rumored that Avalanche was working on Just Cause 3 and Mad Max for next-gen, and if we were to guess, that screen looks rather Mad Max-ish to us. Then again, it could be anything. In 2010, God of War’s Cory Barlog was reportedly working on the Mad Max title at Avalanche, but as of last year, Barlog is now working at Crystal Dynamics.

Avalanche Studios CEO Christofer Sundberg has posted another teaser image on Instagram. The previous teaser image was speculated to be either Just Cause 3 or Mad Max, and this new image swings much more towards it being JC3.

There's already a thread on this. In fact there may be two. Do a search before you start a new thread, please. I'll look for the other ones now and try to merge them.

Okay, I merged all three threads. It seems a pretty sure thing that they are all referring to the same game.

Just Cause 3 Rumors Debunked by Avalanche Interactive

Video game developer Avalanche Interactive says that it is no longer working on its steampunk-themed open-world sandbox video game, although it might pick up the project at a later date.

Christofer Sundberg, the chief creative officer at the company, tells Edge that the title is on ice because the company currently has other priorities and that it is definitely not a new Just Cause title.

He adds, “I really love that art style, and to combine it with sandbox gameplay is a dream of mine. Fortunately, being an independent developer I can control my own destiny and we’ll make something in that world sooner or later.”

Many fans believed that the open-world steampunk shot that Avalanche showed the community was linked to Just Cause 3 and they will be disappointed to hear that the project is no longer in development.
