Irrational Games' next title has been announced, and it's another BioShock first-person shooter. It seems pretty similar to the original, only this time you're running around a ruined city in the sky instead of a ruined city at the bottom of the ocean.

I've always been into the idea of flying cities, and I really liked BioShock's atmosphere, so I'll definitely keep an eye on this. I just hope they spend more time on making the game play well this time around.

Today, I’m happy to announce that the game has gone gold. What that means is that it has been approved by both Sony and Microsoft (and the PC Gods, natch) to be sent to the manufacturing guys to load up fleets of trucks with BioShock Infinite and be driven to a store near you on March 26th.

Irrational Games Announces BioShock Infinite Season Pass

2K Games and Irrational Games today announced that production of downloadable content has recently begun for their forthcoming BioShock Infinite and revealed details of the BioShock Infinite Season Pass. Three all-new add-on packs are in development that will provide hours of additional gameplay and continue the player’s journey in the sky-city of Columbia with new stories, characters, abilities and weapons.

The BioShock Infinite Season Pass will be available on March 26, 2013 when the game is planned to launch, and provide nearly $30.00 of add-on content for $19.99 on PlayStation Network and Windows PC or 1,600 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live online entertainment network, a savings of more than 30%. The Season Pass will include all three add-on packs, and can be pre-ordered today through preordernow.com or at a participating retailer.

Those who purchase the BioShock Infinite Season Pass will also receive the Early Bird Special Pack at no extra cost. This bonus pack contains four pieces of exclusive gear, a Machine Gun Damage Upgrade, a Pistol Damage Upgrade, a gold skin for both weapons and five Infusion bottles that allow players to increase their health, their shield durability or their ability to use Vigors by increasing the quantity of Salts they can carry.

In addition, those who pre-order BioShock Infinite will receive the Industrial Revolution Pack for free. This pack grants exclusive access to three in-game gear items that boost combat abilities, $500 bonus to in-game currency, five lock picks and the Industrial Revolution puzzle game, which unlocks stories of Columbia and allows players to pledge their allegiance to the Vox Populi or Founders through Facebook.

If you want to experience BioShock Infinite at its most difficult, you need to play on 1999 Mode. This typically isn't an option on your first playthrough...unless you input a secret code. The best part? You probably already know the code.

Going back to the sensibilities of late-'90s shooters, 1999 Mode makes enemies tougher, resources scarcer, and resurrection more expensive. Normally, this option is unlocked after beating the game once, but if you're a glutton for punishment, you can unlock it right away. Just enter this button sequence at the main menu (with the "Play Game" option at the top):

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, (Cancel), (Confirm)

Scathing Accuracy review (B-):

S.A. Renegade wrote:You know, for all of Ken Levine's talk of wanting to do something new and different as his reason for not working on Bioshock 2, Bioshock Infinite is still pretty fucking identical to Bioshock. Not that that's a bad thing. The whole "gotta do something new and different" philosophy is dumb anyway. The best games come from building and improving on a formula that is already good, why the fuck would you go in a different direction once you've established something good?
