Description is "Computer game software, Entertainment services, namely, providing an on-line computer game".

Couldn't find anything else via Google. But SUNSETOVERDRIVE.COM was registered by a Ryan Schneider (http://whois.domaintools.com/sunsetoverdrive.com). At Insomniac, there is a Ryan Schneider who is the brand development director. So yeah.

Is Insomniac working on a racing game?

Ted Price wrote:At Insomniac, we’ve always been transparent with our fans. It’s important to us that our fans understand why we do what we do – it’s really the only way to build a meaningful long-term relationship.

In the spirit of maintaining that rapport, I wanted to take a moment and discuss our big announcement today. In case you didn’t see it, we announced Sunset Overdrive, our next big console IP. You can watch the trailer here and sign up to get more info on the website here. Here’s the official description of Sunset Overdrive:

“Sunset Overdrive is an always changing, open-world shooter set in the not-so-distant future. A catastrophic event has left your city overrun by mutants. While the majority perished or transformed, you flourished. It turns out your calling isn’t picking up trash or serving food, it’s mutant destruction. With an arsenal of kick-ass, overpowered weapons and a knack for traversing the city with hyper agility, it’s not the end of days for you. Your story is just beginning.”

It may surprise some of our longtime fans that we have partnered with Microsoft Studios to develop Sunset Overdrive exclusively for Xbox One. When we first began discussing this idea with Microsoft, we were initially hesitant to shift back into an exclusive arrangement. But as the Microsoft team began introducing us to the abilities and philosophies driving the development of Xbox One, we knew that Sunset Overdrive was a perfect fit. The Xbox One and Xbox Live will support our ambitions to create an ongoing two-way dialogue with our community. It will also allow us to have quicker production cycles, enabling timely content updates for new weapons, characters, storylines and even pop culture-relevant content like memes based on social commentary.

Many of you may be asking what this news means for Insomniac. What about Ratchet & Clank? What about Fuse? Others may ask why we have “abandoned” our PlayStation heritage. The truth is, not a lot has changed. Insomniac has been, is, and will continue to be 100% independent. We have treasured that independence for the last 19 years. It now allows us to own and control our IP, and find the most suitable partners to make those IP a reality. While we are excited about partnering with Microsoft on Sunset Overdrive, that doesn’t mean we can’t or wouldn’t make games with our longtime friends at Sony. That’s the magic of being an independent developer.

Everyone here at Insomniac and on the Sunset Overdrive team at Microsoft is pumped to bring the game to you. We hope you will sign up to get more info and join the S.C.U.K. For our local fans in Los Angeles, stay tuned to our Twitter (@sunsetoverdrive) as there will be some activities around town offering a chance for you to earn some of the first Sunset Overdrive swag.

Finally, next week we’ll be hosting a town hall style online stream. I’ll be joined by our Creative Directors on Sunset Overdrive, Marcus Smith (Creative Director, Resistance 3) and Drew Murray (Lead Designer, Resistance 3), and we’ll answer your Sunset Overdrive questions as best we can.

We can’t wait to show you more of Sunset Overdrive. Thanks for reading, and please let me know what you think about the game and the news.

Sunset Overdrive, Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox One game from Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac Games, will have an eight-player online co-op mode, the game’s official website reveals.

“Join forces in the 8-player cooperative experience Chaos Squad,” reads the website. “Tackle a variety of objectives throughout the city, survive epic battles against countless enemies, and earn awesome in-game rewards.”

Insomniac is expected to reveal the game’s multiplayer in full at E3 this week.

Sounds like an added mode instead of the campaign, just like with Resistance 2. I would bet every material possession I own that this game will be a middling borefest. I have no faith in this company at all. I'll explain in my Fuse review.

Chaos Squad Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyHeCAMCfcU

Microsoft and Insomniac Games have released a new Sunset Overdrive video detailing the open-world game’s eight-player “Chaos Squad” multiplayer mode.

Choose Your Chaos Wisely – The amount of Chaos is what determines the difficulty of your team’s final Night Defense. The higher your Chaos– the tougher your Night Defense is going to be, but you’ll get more chances to receive cool rewards at the end. The amount of Chaos you have will depend on which missions you voted for leading up to Night Defense. Take a mission with a lot of chaos to increase difficulty and potential rewards? Or take a mission with a team boost to make the group more likely you succeed?

Go straight from campaign to chaos-squad, in game – So, you’re leaping around Sunset City in single-player and your friend/acquaintance invites you to join her Chaos Squad. You drop off a grind rail, strut up to the nearest future photo booth, and enter. You’ll go straight into multiplayer with the same clothing, same amps, same everything as your character from the single-player campaign

Vote on missions in the open-world – At the start, you and your rag-tag band are going to get two mission options to vote on. You conquer it, two new ones crop up. And they’ll have different objectives and be in separate locations from the first round. So, the result is that each Chaos Squad experience feels unique as you’re going through the open-world.After a few rounds of voting and slaying and Chaos or boost getting – it’s time for your team to face the main event: Night Defense.

Night Defense – This is where you will fend off enemies and protect your vats of Overcharge at one of many forts across the city by not only using your weapons, traversal, and amps – but by placing traps, as well. Before each wave – you’ll have a bit of time to place your traps, but if you made a horrible calculation, you can move and place them during the waves, as well.

And then – the enemies attack. And what comes next is an assault of 8 players simultaneously jumping, shooting, grinding, and exploding nearly every damn thing in sight. Each wave brings an increasingly difficult and new variety of enemies to your door. And, remember, the more Chaos you gathered in the open-world missions – the harder it’s going to be.

Rewards for your character you can take back to campaign! – But! Your reward output is based on your Chaos. So, if you manage to survive with a large amount of Chaos – you’re going to get way more chances at better rewards than the wuss teams who took team boosts instead of Chaos.

Gamescom 2014 story trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZ96oFlLMPE

The trailer is pretty funny. I have been impressed with the writing and voice acting from what's been shown so far and with the world building as well.

David Bierton wrote:Sunset Overdrive represents an interesting evolution for Insomniac Games. While the game shares some technical underpinnings with Fuse, the experience is dramatically different, switching more traditional shooting for a fully explorable city containing platform action and blasting clearly influenced by the likes of Jet Set Radio alongside the studio's own Ratchet and Clank series. Far more important than the tech is the sense that the Insomniac DNA itself has transitioned across beautifully into the new console era: the developer's love for outlandish weaponry and interesting opportunities for layered level design comes through in spades, and the mixture is more impressive in scope and just as much fun as its titles on last-gen platforms.

From a technological perspective, it's a solid showcase. While 900p resolution may be a concern in some scenarios, this game doesn't rely on the kind of single-width pixel geometry or high-frequency texture detail that looks best at native 1080p, and the upscaling technique used here is a good match for the artwork. The 30fps target may disappoint Insomniac purists, but it's a relatively solid lock and clearly instrumental in rendering the sheer volume of outrageous art and effects work.

Overall, we rather like this first next-gen effort from Insomniac. The game is a lot of fun and Microsoft deserves kudos for investing in a title that feels fresh and different. Insomniac has been given free rein to create an entertaining new IP that also serves as a solid technical demonstration of what the Xbox One is capable of, while playing to the studio's strengths in gameplay and weapon design. It's not an Xbox One killer app, but it's a highly worthwhile title.

ESRB rates Sunset Overdrive for PC
https://gematsu.com/2018/11/esrb-rates- ... ive-for-pc

From Discord:

I wrote:Welp
There goes the only XBONE exclusive
They practically bricked my XBONEX now
There are still the RDRs of course, but it's not the same thing, as those are on the PS too, though granted in inferior form
And that dragon game from launch window
MS will turn the thing into a low-cost PC. Which is awesome, but they'd have to make it run Steam games to finish the job properly, which they are loathe to do (edited)
They are already making huge steps in that direction with the recent M&K support announcement
Oh and MCC
That's the only real exclusive now
But maybe not for long.
