This is the story of one Watcher.

Players assume the role of a Watcher named Kagachi, doing battle by “manifesting” the souls of Daemons, which act as the classes found in traditional roleplaying games. Each Daemon has its own unique weapons and skills, and players can shift between them in real time to gain the upper hand in battle.

Moving between the Living World and the realm of the dead known as the Beyond, Kagachi must save the souls of the Lost, as the story of life and reincarnation in this wondrous kingdom unfolds.

Features:
-Action roleplaying battle system with real-time shifting between Daemons (classes)
-A tale of life and reincarnation spanning the Living World and the Beyond

It has some nice environments and character designs. It looks like it's going to be a short and sweet action title.

I am not so sure about this game's Japanese name. This is the official Japanese site: https://www.jp.square-enix.com/oninaki/

And sure enough, the URL says "oninaki". However, the Japanese are known for loving contractions, and using them for URLs, and even in print, even though the official title might be something longer. E.g. Kojima's Bokura no Taiyou games are often called "Bokutai" in Japan, even though the official title is the longer one. In the West, however, the contracted form was used as the title (in fact, an even more contracted form was used: Boktai, without the u).

So I think that's what happened here as well, because this game's kanji (鬼ノ哭ク邦) and katakana title is certainly not "Oninaki". The katakana reads "Oni no Nakukuni", and the kanji, so far as I can tell, starts with the "Oni" of Onimusha for example, which means demon, and continues with the particle "no" and then other stuff I don't know, so that's definitely not spelling "Oninaki" either.

In short, if anyone knows enough Japanese to tell us what the hell is going on, please do so. Until then, we'll keep calling the game "Oninaki".

This isn't a Switch exclusive, btw. It's coming to PS4 and PC (via Steam) too. Which makes sense, because the studio's previous games, I am Setsuna and Lost Sphear, made it to all these systems too.

Under the "SPEC" section of the Japanese Square Enix page for the game, it lists the game's 正式名称 ("formal name") as 鬼ノ哭ク邦 (read as "Oni no Nakukuni", same as the katakana). The Japanese Nintendo announcement page also exclusively uses this name: https://topics.nintendo.co.jp/c/article ... 45cb1.html

The English Nintendo page lists the game as "ONINAKI": https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/oninaki-switch

I'd go with "Oni no Nakukuni" as the official Japanese title for the game and "ONINAKI" as the international title.
