icy Book-writing Hiatus and Insomnia 4.0

Unread postby Qpo » 09 Dec 2015 10:04

I have been chatting with icy recently and this is the gist of what's going on: He's dealing with some heavy stuff in his life right now while at the same time working full-time on the books and possibly even a new version of Insomnia. So he's going to take a year off both sites (the other being Orgy) to finish all the books, and then he'll come back. At that point he will either refresh Insomnia 3.0, fixing the bugs etc. and update everything, or, if Joomla and RocketTheme have by then brought out sufficiently advanced products that could noticeably improve the Insomnia experience, he will work for the additional one or two months needed to make Insomnia 4.0. Either way he says the 100 or so Videogame Art reviews he has planned and the last Videogame Culture essays will blow everyone away and conclude his vision for the site. After that he will get people to update the site on a daily basis and build up the clan to hundreds of members playing all the best games 24/7 no matter which part of the world you live in. I am paraphrasing from a letter he sent me (he's got very sporadic internet access), but he says that while he's very enthusiastic about the future, the books will have to be finally finished before anything further happens, so he's buckling down to do just that. In the meantime everyone here is free to use the forum as always, and if he finds the time he'll send me an essay or two at some point to share with you (and maybe some aphorisms for Orgy).

Except if he dies before he has a chance to do any of that. In which case he says we are on our own and it was nice knowing us. That's all I have right now, and if he gives me more I'll be sure to share it in this thread.

P.S. He still has the names and addresses of everyone who ordered the books, and will contact them when the time comes to ship them, so just sit tight and wait for that mail.

Yeah, thanks for the update, and I'd also would like to wish him good luck. And I'm sure that most of us wouldn't think that he'd just abandon his sites and books!

Thanks Qpo for the update! I have not been on the two sites for quite a while so I have quite a lot to catch up on. If you ever contact icy, please let him know that while he is sorely missed, I wish him the very best on his work and life, and that I eagerly await his return.

Hey, folks! I have been talking to icy recently and helping him with some issues, and he gave me the following news to share with everyone here.

He says he has more than 400 new pages of videogame and philosophy content so far, plus a novel, a PUA book, and plans for half a dozen new websites. All this stuff will start going online and/or in print sometime before Christmas, at which point Insomnia and Orgy will resume normal functioning. That is the plan, at any rate, and although it could change between now and then, he seems quite confident he can stick to it.

Hey guys, so I am back and very happy to see that you've been keeping the place alive. I can't tell you how much it means to me. The plan now is to massively update Orgy for Christmas Day, and Insomnia for New Year's. I am fairly sure I'll make the first deadline, but the second depends on whether I keep the same site, or rework it from scratch. If I end up reworking it the update will take weeks, but in that case I'll post a few essays in the meantime even though no one will be able to find them from the frontpage -- I'll just link them in the forum for you guys.

So that is all for now, I am off to sleep because starting tomorrow I'll be working on the sites full-time.
