I just got my copy of Videogame Culture: Volume I. The new cover is way better than the original. The object is nice, print quality is good. The new articles on scoring and narrative are amazing. The subjects are nailed with impressive accuracy and thoroughness and yet it didn't feel pompous or overly complex but rather joyful and fun. All in all, old and new articles, it is a real pleasure to read.

Hey Icy, do you have a name for the theory you've written about games?

icycalm
icytheory
lol no
The Theory
let's go with that
I think one of the reasons I haven't bothered coming up with a name is because I don't think there can be more than one theory
Like math is math, you know?

jeffrobot494
Yeah, but it's nice to have something to refer to all essays besides "Alex Kierkegaard's art theory". Titles add a lot. (edited)

icycalm
Videogame Culture?

jeffrobot494
Kierkegaards Videogame Culture theory.
Seems appropriate.

icycalm
You could also say immersion theory
I haven't heard of anyone using this, and if they did, someone would immediately point them to me

jeffrobot494
Yeah that gives us a hint of what it's about.

icycalm
In these cases it's not usually the creator who creates the name
Like "Pythagoras' theorem"
It wasn't named so by Pythagoras
Or how would you call Nietzsche's ethics?
You could say "Nietzschean ethics"
Or you could look for a major theme, and use that(edited)
Master morality
Overman ethics
Ressentiment
With my art theory, it's easy
The major theme is immersion
Nothing else comes close, not even complexity

jeffrobot494
It all serves the immersion.
