After reading mikey's latest server-related post, I decided to stick with our server in Chicago for the time being, because moving to New York would be too much of a disadvantage to the Australians. More info here: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/cosm ... st-1143969

So we won't be needing too much more money for October, nor will we need it right now. We need $160 by October 8, and we already have about $140. Moreoever, I expect $10 from Clopse from the PA forum soon, and probably more from other PA people before October 8, so we don't need any more money until November 8, really. If any of you want to send any, I will just set it aside for November.

We'll move server when a faster one is made available by NFO in Chicago, or some other central US location.

We are doing good.

I just realized that at $160/month, our server will cost nearly $2,000 per year. That's not an insignificant amount of money, and I am proud of us for going into our third month with no money problems at all. That's really awesome for such a small clan, and even smaller pool of contributors.

mikey copied my idea of opening up the server to contributors, a mere couple of days after our thread in the PA forum: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/comm ... st-1144015

This is our original thread: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/cosm ... ver.72611/

They are using a slightly faster processor, which however is not a Xeon. It's a regular desktop processor that cannot use ECC RAM, which might mean more crashes.

In any case, I sent him $10 for October from our funds, to get the password, and also to show him that I don't harbor any grudges. So assuming he does send it to me, we will have access to the second server too for essentially nothing.

I think the reason they went with an i7 was so that they could have some sort of advantage over ours. Because the servers he was using up to now from SoftLayer were 1270 v3 that were two generations behind ours.

Guys, start sending me what you can because we must send the next payment by November 9. If it's not looking like we'll get enough, I might move us to this server that's somewhat cheaper (but faster, if less reliable): http://culture.vg/forum/topic?p=30040#p30040

I am also considering scrapping the server altogether if there doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm left for it. We can run PA events on the community server, and we still seem to be far from playing Rust, so we wouldn't lose anything immediately tangible beyond advertising for the Cosmic War site in the PA MP lobby.

I am waiting for your contributions and/or thoughts on the matter. I am personally a little burned out on PA at the moment, and wouldn't mind taking a break from it for a few weeks. Not sure how the PA community would react to me saying this, however, so for the time being I am not saying anything.

Sent in 30 euros today for November.

I haven't been able to participate in the PA events lately due to the full time web development class I've been attending, but I'll gladly support the server for as long as you want to keep it running. The games I've been able to play were amazing and I'm eagerly looking forward to getting back into PA proper when I have more free time.

I am slowly getting back the urge to play PA. I really needed the break last week, so I think that by Saturday I'll be fully charged again. Hopefully we'll get some more money in the next couple of days so we can keep the server, but as I said I am sure we can keep going even without it.

I think we are good, with some money to spare, so don't send any more unless you want to. I'll do the math and figure out how much is left over for next month.

I used our extra cash (about €60) to pay for the CW teaser: http://culture.vg/forum/topic?t=6001

I hope everyone's okay with that.

It's an investment in a sense, because if the events keep growing -- and especially if we move to Rust as well -- we should eventually be able to charge $1 for admission per player per event, and never have to pay for anything again. Could probably get two servers by that point, one per game.

I am looking for some kind of website/app/widget that would allow us to track donations for the server rent, so that I won't have to do it manually. Something that can be used to allow also guests and anonymous donors to contribute, that I can link off the frontpage etc. Let me know if you know of anything like that. I know that options must exist, because I've seen them on other sites before, but haven't had any reason to look into them until now.

Thanks, I was going to make a post about this. I have your 30, and another 30 from pXs, plus another 30 from me. That means we need 70 by December 9. Preferably by December 7, so there are no last-minute mixups. Send whatever you can guys.
