Monaco Meetup (September 2019)

Today I want to talk a bit about a different kind of gaming. If you've been following my recent posts on Discord, you'll know that in a few hours I am boarding a plane to Monaco, and my friend recoil is already on the way there. Robo is also thinking of joining us, and he's trying to convince Rory to follow us too, as I type this. We have another major CULT meetup on our hands, in other words, starting in just over a day from now in a place which in a recent exposé Piers Morgan called, "The most glamorous, the most star-studded, and the richest place on earth" (which, incidentally, is also "literally as small as Hyde Park" ). You can't say I don't choose interesting places for meetups! And you definitely can't say that I don't choose interesting activities! After all, we're going there with thousands of euros in our pockets with the goal of getting rich or going broke, and we'll be following the system I devised back in the early 2000s with which, again in Monaco, I turned 4,000 euros into 40,000+. Parts of this system I have already published in the forum, and what I want to do now is publish the preface I just wrote for the book to celebrate the commencement of the second major CULT meetup. So please enjoy the preface, and if you're interested in meeting up with us, to gamble or just to hang out, post in the forum thread [ > ] or Discord and we'll set it up. We've no idea how long we'll be there: could be days, could be months, depending on how the gambling goes, but we'll keep you posted via the usual avenues, and share with you details and pics of our adventures.

THE ART OF GAMBLING: PREFACE

Can roulette be beaten?

Mankind seems convinced that it can't, but when even people who've no idea how the game even works are perfectly convinced that it's unbeatable, the intelligent observer should probably start suspecting that the opposite is true! After all, an Arab sheikh could sit down at a roulette, start with a low bet on even chances, and keep doubling it all night long, whenever it'd fail to pan out; so unless you believe it's possible, let alone probable, to lose an even chances bet like a coin flip dozens of times in a row, it should be easy to see that the sheikh would never lose a shekel.

"But that's precisely why roulettes have table limits!", someone who actually knows how roulette works will interject at this point.

Actually, they don't. Of course those meant for the plebs have low maximums, and the private ones in the back of the casinos high minimums, because that's how you get to separate the wealthy from the rest, and give the latter enough breathing space to enjoy their game in relative quiet and tranquility; but you can jump from table to table, you know! Hell, you can jump from casino to casino if you want, so it's perfectly possible to start betting at the lowest minimum on the planet in some shady ran-down place alongside dozens of old Asian ladies; and a few dozen spins later end up in the back of Monte Carlo betting one million pounds sterling on red, as Piers Morgan did in his video expose of the place a while back [ > ], all the while sitting next to a professional roulette player who had made a million pounds in a single session too, by the way.

So let's reframe the problem in a novel way. Let's imagine that a sheikh with a million euros in his pocket walks into a casino, with the goal of winning just a single five-euro note. Are you seriously telling me that there is any scenario, beyond the casino cheating him of course, in which he'd fail to accomplish this? And if he can accomplish this every time—as I contend that he can—what's to stop him from doing it all day every day till the cows come home, to make as much money as he wants? And if he can do this, shouldn't he be said to have beaten roulette? He didn't beat the house's edge—the edge is always there, the zero that gives the casino, in European roulette, its 2.7% advantage—but he has brought to bear on the game so much capital that he has made the possibility of him losing almost begin to veer into quantum realm statistics.

Of course, the sheikh's problem isn't statistics, which his gargantuan bankroll has obliterated, but the simple fact that earning five euros every spin or two is not something that a billionaire is interested in achieving. So though the sheikh can beat roulette any time he likes, he's simply never going to bother with it, while the kind of person for whom a fiver every spin or every other spin is significant typically lacks the kind of bankroll required to accomplish this.

Typically, but not always. Because there is a gray area somewhere between sheikh and homeless person, and it's in this area that the art of gambling takes place—an area that the naive masses with their facile objections against roulette and gambling in general have no inkling about, and don't even want to know.

But I've been there, and it's glorious. For several months I lived there, I found—entirely on my own—the way to that magical place, and I can take you there.

It's real. It works.

Let's do it.
