Insomnia Cosmic War #1

So Cosmic War #1 starts Saturday, December 19, 2020, at 2 PM UTC, i.e. about nine hours from now.

The format will be as follows. We see how many people show up, and depending on the total, we divide ourselves into as many teams as seems optimal. If it's six people, then three teams in a 2v2v2. If it's nine people, three teams in a 3v3v3. If its something odd like 11 people, then either 2v2v2v2v2v1, or 3v3v3v2, with the handicapped team getting extra eco. Don't ask me exactly how much. We'll figure it out. And we apportion the players by having each player roll a die with as many sides as there are teams. If it's three teams, a 1d3, if it's five, a 1d5. And you go into the team you rolled until all teams are full (and if you roll for a full team, you roll again).

It's a single gigantic 1100 radius Earth-like planet. Look at how small the commander seems on it. The other side of the planet is mostly land btw.

I used to try massive planets in the early, pre-Clan Wars days, when the game had just launched, and it was insane fun even if the game chugged after half an hour. But after we started the events I cut back on the huge planets because the pros complained of the lag. Now we probably won't have pros, so we won't care if the game takes half an hour more. And we need to test the new server anyway. In the old days, I was playing these massive planets in the public shared crappy servers, so we should be able to get decent perfomance now on our monster.

For the max number of units you really need a multiplanet system, since a single planet will only use one out of our server's 20 threads. The rest will be idle. But let's just test the boundaries of single-planet performance, and then next time we try something more conventional like two or three planets. Plus I need to see what kind of turnout we get before I can begin planning multiplanet systems.

Download the planet and check it out, and I'll give everyone 5-10 minutes before the start, once we've determined the teams, to load the planet with your team and come up with a plan. It's spawn anywhere btw. GLHF.

P.S. The winning team's players get 1 point on the new Cosmic War leaderboard.

It was a 2v2v2 with the following teams:

Team 1: CULT|Ciaróg + CULT|icycalm
Team 2: CULT|Agentx + CULT|recoil
Team 3: CULT|Archonus + CULT|Some guy

Team 1 won.

No one was streaming from team 3, so we don't have that viewpoint.

My stream is jerky for some reason, I talk about it here: https://culture.vg/forum/topic?p=33457#p33457

recoil's stream is smooth, but music is inaudible, plus they lost so it's not as exciting as my (jerky) stream. In sum, it was a great game, but we don't have a great stream of it. We'll do better next time.

Ciaróg and I will be getting 1 point each in the Cosmic War leaderboard.
