I'll be finally posting the Insomnia mix on the frontpage later today (alongside an article introducing it), and I'd like to make sure it works in the majority of browsers before I do so:

http://culture.vg/insomnia-mix.html

I only have access to very old (like 2009-old) versions of Safari and Firefox right now, and it only works on Safari. So please try that link out in the latest versions of all the major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Explorer, Safari and Opera, in that order, according to this) and let me know what's up.

It works on the latest versions of Firefox (33.1.1) and Chrome (39.0.2171.65 m). I can't try the rest right now.

So I got the top two browsers at least, that's good news. That gives me 80%+ of the userbase, according to that link. Thanks.

Glad to hear the mix works on all browsers. I am very close to finishing the page now. It has taken me a lot longer than I thought it would.

One thing I'd like to ask is for people to post here links to all the popular JRPG tracks that weeaboos say they are "the best music ever" or some shit. What little I've heard of them leads me to believe that they are all garbage, but perhaps there are exceptions? I don't know the games, so it would take me ages to research them. If you know the tracks the weeaboos love, post them here please, even if you yourself don't like them. I just want to give the genre a fair chance, and also to not make an ass of myself by slagging it off in the article, only to discover later that things are not as bad as they seem to me now.

Thanks for the selections so far (though it is my understanding that Nocturne is a dungeon crawler, not a JRPG... Still crap track anyway.)

You're welcome, icy. Just one question, is there a way you could normalize the tracks' volume level? Some sound way higher than others, it can get annoying. Maybe there's a way to implement ReplayGain into the player?

Also the Rules of Nature version you have is a good deal longer than the "official" Platinum mix, which is 2:31:

I have never had this problem that you speak of in dozens of different versions of different browsers across dozens of computers (because I have often listened to the mix while working on the site in internet cafes over many years). Does anyone else have this problem? Not sure what I could do about it, given that I worked out the HTML for the player in 2011, and don't remember anything about it anymore.

I'll look into the Rules of Nature issue soon.

It isn't really a major issue, it just so happened that the player went from a quiet track to a loud Raiden IV one lol. A solution would be to reconvert all tracks while directly applying ReplayGain values to them with something like foobar2000, but it's too much of a hassle for a very occasional "issue".

Grandia (1997, SAT) - Theme of Grandia
Grandia II (2000, DC) - FIGHT!! Ver.1

I know a little about the music from the old Squaresoft games. Certainly those game have the most fanatical devotees. Nobuo Uematsu (the primary composer) is more than a small celebrity to these people. A few years ago it was one of his tracks that became the first videogame music to appear in Classic FM's Hall of Fame. It's a list voted for by listeners, but it gives an impression of the scale of the fandom, and demonstrates what you say about weeaboos thinking it is the "best music ever". He was also part of a band called The Black Mages that played rock covers of his most famous compositions. They managed three albums of the stuff.

I think the below is a fair selection of what Uematsu had to offer. I've stuck with the tracks that were actually in the games.

Final Fantasy V (1992, SFC) - Clash on the Big Bridge
Final Fantasy VII (1997, PS) - Aerith's Theme
Final Fantasy VII (1997, PS) - Those Who Fight Futher
Final Fantasy IX (2000, PS) - Dark Messenger
Final Fantasy IX (2000, PS) - Vamo' alla Flamenco
