an illegal thread

Unread postby icycalm » 14 Jun 2006 02:56

I've recently started downloading a bunch of torrents, which contain every GBA game ever released in every territory, In all, that's about 2500 roms. Total size: 11.something gigs.

Now, of course I don't need all of them, but it's very tough finding specific GBA roms from rom sites, so torrents are really the only sensible way to go.

I don't know what this thread is about actually. I am just real happy waiting for all those games to come down. I just recently found out how much fun playing GBA games on my laptop can be. Image quality is stunning compared to GBA/GBA SP. Easily as good as the DS, and you can enlarge the screen size as much as you want (though you lose image quality in direct proportion to the size of the screen). Also, it's pretty cool that I can keep all my saves in my hard drive. Emulators rock sometimes.

Emulators rock ALL TIMES!!! Can you shre with us the torrent link? Be warned that the majority of games contained in the archive should be various versions of the same game from all territories. Nevertheless GBA has some great games. Try out the Castlevanias, they rule big time.

That should be all GBA games ever made. How fucking cool is that?

I've finished the first Castlevania, and I've played the other two a bit, but not enough. I'll eventually get to them.

However, the moment these babies come down I am going to finish both Fire Emblems. I love these games to death. The first Fire Emblem I've ALMOST finished it twice, but then lost/gave away the carts. That's why I like having the damn saves on my hard drive.

The fact that the GBA has the highest shit to good software ratio i've seen this side of the Neon is enough to make wince at the idea of getting every title ever released for the format.

I need a bigger harddrive. I've got a 40 gig, and about 36gigs of that is mp3's.

I've been looking over the roms as they come down, and I am realizing how true this is. The amount of shovelware for this system is staggering.

I might get a 320gig drive for 114 euros soon. That capacity has the best $/MB ratio at the moment.

I just downloaded the Dreamcast Cardcaptor Sakura game. I haven't played it much yet. I'm so hardcore, illegally downloading and burning a shojo game.

I also downloaded Sonic Adventure for the DC, but a lot of the music was missing, and the music that was there was strangely muffled, so I threw it in the trash. I guess I'll have to get the Gamecube version.

Thanks for the links icy.
I played some Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance today, my first Castlevania ever as a matter of fact. Actually I played one on a friend's cell phone for a few minutes once but the controlls were awfull.
I think I'm about 35% done with it right now but I got tired. I like the combat system and the magic but all the backtracking through the levels is a bit confusing. Also I'm not paying any attention to the story.

As I was playing it I kept thinkng "this would be fucking awesome if I could play it on a GBA, on the bus or subway". At home it's neat, but one of these days I might just stop being a cheap bastard and acually buy a GBA and play the game when I'm using public transportation. Or maybe a DS would be better suited to my needs.

I've always hated Castlevania since it became a Metroid clone. Castlevania 4 is proper Castlevania. They should pick up where that one left off.

At least it's a good Metroid clone. Or don't you like Metroid in general?

I like the new ones. I just think they shouldn't have abandoned the old style of gameplay altogether. It's perfectly possible to develop one of each every few years.

What bothers me is that the 2D sequels have been confined to handheld consoles.

The pinnacle of old school Castlevanias is Rondo of Blood in PC Engine CD-ROM. Find it it's a masterpiece. Old school Castlevanias would have a tough time in today's market. Konami should probably release a remake just as Capcom is releasing the Ultimate Ghouls' n' Ghosts on PSP. Nevertheless I believe that Symphony of the Night is the best game in the series and surpasses every old school Castlevania game.

Ultimate GnG is not a remake--it's a brand new game.

Also, I forgot to add. Zak, playing the GBA Castlevania games on public transport may not be such a good idea. Well, maybe if your trip is more than 15 minutes and you have a comfortable seat. But I doubt you'd enjoy the game standing up on a crowded bus or an underground train.

I meant a remake of an old idea.
