The Saddest Downfall For A Videogame Franchise

Kola18_97 wrote:Capcom Vancouver really started to fall from grace shortly after releasing Dead Rising 3; the story goes that they wanted to develop new IPs but Capcom proper rejected every one of them stating that they only make Dead Rising and even CV tried to reboot the franchise with an extremely gritty, dark and somber version that was touted as a "Last of Us killer" but that too was rejected, once the reboot got scrapped what remaining resources they had from it were put towards Dead Rising 4 and despite promise, things had to be rushed and scrapped to meet deadlines, so what we got with that final product wound up failing tremendously and I know all the drama the game had with Frank being completely different; supposedly Capcom or CV didn't even talk to T.J. Rotolo offering him to reprise his venerated role as the photojournalist.

And then once DR4 came and went CV tried to make a fifth game that was more Souls-like than what we were accustomed to in the series' formula, lots of design and developmental changes went through that too but again it was all for nothing since it also got canned. From what I remember Capcom Vancouver's swan song before being made defunct was a puzzle game for mobile devices and now we're left with a sliver of hope for the franchise to return in some form with words from Capcom saying that the IP is still too important for them to fully mothball.
