Just got this email. They only send them to the team leaders, so ysignal and Chev should also have got them.

The teams I registered are as follows.

MILITARY DIVISION
CULT Alpha Squad / Greece / Nova
Sergeant icycalm
Private ExiledOne

CIVILIAN DIVISION
CULT Bravo Squad / Australia / Cyclone TR
Corporal ysignal
Private Some guy

CULT Charlie Squad / Australia / Cyclone TR
Corporal ChevRage
Private Adjudicator

The forms I had to fill out had a "Country of Origin" field, but only for the team leader. I considered using USA for all of us—since that is the server region we use (plus the best country in the world)—but it didn't feel right since there's only one American in these teams. So I ended up going with the country of the team leader. Below is what the results will look like, and if all our flags showed USA, it just wouldn't feel right, like it's false advertising or we're illegal migrants or something lmao. We're an international clan, so we'll use many flags.

Another consideration that stumped me was the vehicle choice. The Military division had only one option, the Nova, but the Civilian one had a dozen, and I don't really know their relative strengths and weaknesses, and there was no time to ask the players what they felt like playing, so I went with the Cyclone TR because we have one and have used it a bit, and moreover the Cyclone features most prominently in the event trailers. I think it was a good choice, but I now regret not trying a different vehicle with the second team, like the Ursa for example, so we can get a wider range of experience. At least we're trying both the Military and Civilian divisions, and next year we'll know all the vehicles inside and out, and every leader will be able to make his choice.

I have more details to come! Lots of preparation to be made. Stay tuned! And the team leaders make sure to look for the next email and reply to it asap when you get it.

P.S. If you're interested in the ranks, there'll be another thread, but until then you can check this: https://veteran.com/marine-corps-ranks

So after six months of satisfactory active duty, Privates become Privates First Class, and after eight months Lance Corporals. Corporals become Sergeants when I assign more than four soldiers to them, etc. It's a pyramid scheme, none of us can rank further if the clan doesn't have enough players to make the higher ranks feasible, that's why I am only a Sergeant, since the most we can field right now is a small platoon.

Just got the email for attendance confirmation. We have until the 18th to lock in our attendance.

The form the email links to asks us for some other things, like what our primary weapon and armour will be, the vehicle we will use, etc. And also a portrait of the team members like this example:

While exploring the ATMO eSports webpage, I note that their calendar also scheduled the Hurston Hurt Locker - Last Live Broadcast Practice event on 15 October 2022, 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM UTC (2000 to 2300 hours).

Whaaaat? They want photos?

I’m not opposed to it, it’s kinda cool actually, but I see them losing many people this way.

How does everyone feel about this? I’ll have to get a haircut.

So they don’t care about the background? They will just photoshop whatever they want? So if 100 people enter, they will sit down to make 100 photoshops of them? That’s some dedication.

No time to get shirts made unfortunately. At least it will motivate us to make shirts for next time.

This really is next-level shit.

I too am taken aback about this requirement initially.

Thinking this through over the night, I realised that ATMO being an eSports company, runs the events with the eSports tournament style broadcast and commentary, where matching a face to the player(s) and some form of brand image / uniform shirt is the norm.

I believe the company already has pre-selected profile cards and background designs at the ready. They simply need the photographs of the players human selves to paste onto the prepared assets.

Yes but this pasting isn’t easy. That’s why blue/green screens were invented. And the example image they gave is very well done. If we provide them random pics with random backgrounds, it will be serious work to get them done to a comparable level. It’s very surprising they ask for a pic without offering any guidelines as to how to take the pic.

Anyway we don’t have much choice in the matter it seems. If we want to play, we need to do the pics. Whoever isn’t comfortable with this or just doesn’t want to go to the trouble, I understand if you bow out. Keep in mind though this is the number 1 organizer, and you’ll never be able to play in any of their events in that case.

Though bothersome, this requirement is a great sign, to me. It tells me other aspects of the event will also be high-quality.
