They are finally adding a vision-limiting system. It's not full-fledged fog-of-war, but it looks like a decent step in that direction. It's the number 1 feature I've been shouting at them about for years. So finally they're working on it. But I am not sure if we'll use it. First off, it might not be ready for when we start (and yes, we're starting soon, with no ™). Second, it might not work as well as I want, whereas my current solution is probably superior, this being me streaming and the players controlling their characters via the stream and a mod that lets them use a mini in MY computer. This means I have total control of the camera, so not only the players see what I want them to see, but they see it HOW I want them to see it, with all sorts of cool camera movement like a movie. We'll see how well it works in practice, but either way it's cool to now also have another option if this vision-limiting feature delivers the goods. We can also end up using both methods depending on which is superior for a given situation.
P.S. The other reason I might prefer my method to vision-limiting is that when I am controlling the camera I won't allow the players to see the "empty carpet" beyond the edges of the scene that ruins immersion. To the players, it will seem as if they're always in the middle of a huge expanse of land extending infinitely in all directions. Whereas with the vision-limiter, I think when players get at the edge of the scene, they'll see the carpet.
