They are finally adding a vision-limiting system. It's not full-fledged fog-of-war, but it looks like a decent step in that direction. It's the number 1 feature I've been shouting at them about for years. So finally they're working on it. But I am not sure if we'll use it. First off, it might not be ready for when we start (and yes, we're starting soon, with no ™). Second, it might not work as well as I want, whereas my current solution is probably superior, this being me streaming and the players controlling their characters via the stream and a mod that lets them use a mini in MY computer. This means I have total control of the camera, so not only the players see what I want them to see, but they see it HOW I want them to see it, with all sorts of cool camera movement like a movie. We'll see how well it works in practice, but either way it's cool to now also have another option if this vision-limiting feature delivers the goods. We can also end up using both methods depending on which is superior for a given situation.

P.S. The other reason I might prefer my method to vision-limiting is that when I am controlling the camera I won't allow the players to see the "empty carpet" beyond the edges of the scene that ruins immersion. To the players, it will seem as if they're always in the middle of a huge expanse of land extending infinitely in all directions. Whereas with the vision-limiter, I think when players get at the edge of the scene, they'll see the carpet.

Look at all these effects!!! And they're animated! Click to see!

A shitton of effects have been added to CE3 over the last couple of years that I haven't presented here. I've been planning an effects post to go live before Kingslayer starts, but I couldn't help myself from posting this video in advance.

What you see in these preview posts are bits and pieces of my game: half-destroyed buildings in one pic, armies in another, massive cities in another, crazy camerawork in another, and now these effects. But what you don't see is the result when you add all these things together. No one is prepared for that. It will change everything.

This is exactly what it looks like: Warhammer 40,000—the real thing, not the dumbed-down stuff programmers never tire of trying to sell you on Steam—running in Cult Engine 3. All images are 4K grabbed straight from the frame buffer, no trickery. And they don't even look as good as they will because my stage designers insist on keeping the mini bases on.

My team is adding ALL the factions, hundreds of units, via a complex 3D scanning and painting process of the original Games Workshops models: these are no recreations, and would cost you thousands of dollars to purchase and play in person.

Warhammer 40,000 WILL run in Alex Kierkegaard's Battlegrounds in its full glory with the Alpha 3.0 update coming later this year that will bring isometric 3D graphics to the game, and players will be able to unlock this universe via one (or more?) of the existing (or upcoming?) campaigns already on the overworld.

And by the way, in addition to the traditional miniature wargame ("the most popular miniature wargame in the world"), there are a number of GMRPG adaptations, all of which will also become available with Alpha 3.0 for full roleplaying in the 40k universe, the latest two of which are:

Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay: Wrath & Glory (2021)

Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay: Imperium Maledictum (2023)

These will run in Cult Engine 2 (though there may be key moments/battles played out in CE3). Here's a screenshot:
