USB stick for STGs

Unread postby FMK » 31 Aug 2007 18:30

Hi Ladies!

After stumbled over MAME & Co again the last weeks, I started to enjoy shmups and arcade-style games again, aiming for new high scores every day after work. The only problem at the moment, is my Controller - which is one of those original Microsoft Xbox360 pads for Windows, plugged into it via USB.

While it is relative comfortable, it lacks somewhat control for manic shmups and I'm looking for something else - so the first thing I found was the 'new' version of the old Competition Pro sticks, but I heard nothing good about it and searched more and more websources ... until I found the DreamCast Arcade stick in a USB version, which suits me more.

But maybe someone has more information on that topic or a specific suggestions for a nice USB arcade-controller for shmups.

I'm living in France, near Paris at the moment, so a store or shop to find something interesting would be wonderful, but is optional, as long as I can order via cc.

Thanks in advance!

I've never heard of any DC sticks coming out in USB version. Are you sure you are not mistaken?

The best commercially-available USB stick is Hori's Real Arcade Pro 3.

Buy it now and thank me later!

PS. If you have cash to burn go for this version:

It's not available yet, but it's coming out shortly.

PS 2. I edited your thread title for clarity ;)

Thanks for the information, tho - yes, I am sure about the DC arcade stick:

arcade-stick-usb-(modifizierter-dc-arcade-stick).html

If I recall correctly, it's not the worst quality and the price seems to be attractive too, on the other side - it won't be a bigger issue for me to spend about € 100.- for a stick.

Hmm ...

I use my Fighting Stick EX2 (X360) with my computer. It uses Hori clone parts instead of Sanwa, but it gets the job done.

I use the following Sticks :
1.Hori Real Arcade Pro V2 (w/ a PS2 Joypad adaptor, Triolink)
2.Green Goblin Sega Dreamcast Official Stick (w/ magic box joypad adaptor)
3.Sega Saturn Official Arcade Stick (w/ magicbox, but Im using it more for fighting games)

Hori of course is the best.
When Im not in the mood to play with arcade sticks I use a Saturn Official Joypad or a Hori Digital SNES Replica Pad.

I've bought 3 different adaptors for PS2>PC play because I have lots of PS Hori sticks but I have latency issues with them every time. Absolutely does my head in.

Do the wired/wireless PS3/Xbox360 sticks connect to a PC? (assuming there are some third party drivers you can find).

The PS2>PC adaptors Im using are :
1.Super Dual Box,
2.Trio Linker Plus and
3.PC Joybox 3in1.
The first one is PS2>PC only but I prefer the second one, it seems is lag-free.Just checked play asia now and there is a new version of it, Trio Linker II Plus, Ill check it.PC Joybox 3in1 is also fine and I highly recommend it because it doesnt need drivers as Trio Linker.New versions of all the above are available in Play-Asia but I need time to check forums and recommend one.Shoryuken tech sub-forum is a fine source and provide reliable information for adaptors performance. But you should already know this of course.

Which adaptors you are using?
