The Fake-HD Era

http://insomnia.ac/hardware/the_fake-hd_era/

I recently got a 26" 1080p-native LCD (the first such display I get -- before this I was mostly using a 720p projector) and hooked it up to my 360, and I am basically 100% certain that even THE FUCKING DASHBOARD is upscaled. The only game I've tried is Ninja Gaiden II, and I am pretty sure that's upscaled too.

I'll also be getting a 37" 768p display soon and setting it up next to the other one, so I'll be able to make some solid side-by-side comparisons, to resolve as many of the issues discussed in this thread as I can.

I should be writing some more hardware articles too.

Human eye resolution is counted in arcseconds. Later I am going to count the distance needed to spot full hd. For now I see that human cant spot difference on 70" tv from 1 m. With tft test you can put 720p net on 1080 tv to see the space needed to spot the net. The problem is that I cant count the eye resolution when you see colored picture because you eyes make it look blured.

All game are upscaled. On PS3 there are no fullhd games at all!

Tutorials to find true resolutions and a list of resolution of HD games: http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=46241

Although I didn't read the methodology of finding the true rendering resolution, I find it very boring.

Thanks for the link, Jedah, which shows that this ridiculous assertion is rubbish:

adrenalinq is now banned for this and for failing to use proper capitalization and punctuation despite my repeated emails practically begging him to do so.

An (apparently) new fake-HD trick. In this case, a game with "HD" right there in the title is still incapable of maintaining a constant 60 frames per second at 1920x1080p.

And don't think that it's unnoticeable just because the upscaling isn't constant--plenty of people have noticed the tearing, at least.

I didn't know if I should post in this thread the news regarding that Microsoft no longer requires games being rendered at 1280x720 (As if that rule meant shit, in the first place.)

I posted them in this thread:

What a disappointment with WipeoutHD, I gotta say that it tricked me totally (I thought the tearing was caused because of lack of vertical sync).

I've never heard about a game with a dynamic framebuffer, pretty impressive technical feat.
