This is the thread for posting pictures of your setups (or linking to those on other sites) and discussing them. The thread for the discussion of the prologue, if anyone has anything to say about that, should be started in the theory forum [Edit: Here it is].

In terms of layout, this page is just a start. I will probably be adding clickable images later, as well as comments on the side perhaps -- at least on those pictures on which I have something to comment. Another thing I would like to do is add attributions: links to where I found the pictures, or to the blogs of the people to whom they belong etc. The problem is that many of them are from forum threads, and it would be a tedious business to get in touch with every person through PMs, etc. On the other hand, the pictures are usually hosted on temporary hosting services, so it is already impossible to track down the owners of many of the ones I've saved on my hard drive over the years. So at least some of them will necessarily have to go uncredited.

At any rate, if anyone sees a picture of their setup and would like to receive credit, you'll have to send me ANOTHER picture of it (so I can be sure it's you), and I'll add your name on the margin, or your screename, and/or a link to your site/blog if you have one.

Here is my current setup:

Image

The large case alongside the PS3 is a HTPC I constructed that I use for emulation as well as video conferencing. I plan to get an Asian Xbox 360 soon and whether to get one in black or white is a tough decision. An Ikaruga disc is loaded into the Dreamcast, by the way. :)

There are couches around this thing, but I couldn't capture them in the photograph without losing the detail and perspective I wanted. The couches spoil the experience significantly -- the need for comfort is always on my mind and I rarely end up immersing myself in the experience. Instead, I end up constantly adjusting my sitting position, gradually ending up on the floor.

Another flaw is the room itself, it's an open design and so has poor acoustics. Annoyingly, there is a large unused room next to this thing that may be a more appropriate location for it.

Cool setup and cool picture. Aesthetically, I mean -- the picture quality is terrible. As for the rest of the room, including couches etc., you could always take several pictures. In any case, I will include this in the next update. If in the meantime you manage to get hold of a better camera and take another shot at it, that'd be even better.

Functionally, what you really need apart from a 360 (can't believe you don't already have one), is a decent CRT for the Saturn, the Dreamcast and the Wii.

Also, that Logitech speaker set is cool, I have one of those too. But you are missing the point of a 5.1 setup, lol.

I also like that piece of furniture. Really stylish.

Thanks! I really like this kind of style.

Sorry about the horrible noise in that photograph, it looks like it's a bit out of focus too. I'll post another photo when I find myself a decent camera.

Those speakers are a running joke with my friends now, lol. I'd always say that I'd mount them later, but that never eventuates. Also, a CRT on the side would be perfect, since scaling Dreamcast/Saturn games onto a 1080p screen is a crime. Actually, perhaps two CRTs, one permanently in tate.

P.S. I blame this thread for the decision to buy a Xbox 360. I already bought most of the Cave games and an arcade stick for it. Definitely playing those on my CRT though.

My recent games room cleanup, and finally some home made shelves for the consoles. Still lots of tidying to go yet. Too many ugly cables and tools lying around. Click for bigger.

Gah, awful picture quality. Anyway, in the cupboards there are more consoles (NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Mega Drive 2, Dreamcast and another PS2). I definitely need a (Japanese) Xbox 360 and a Saturn (I regret selling my old one). I would also like more arcade sticks for pretty much everything, PS2 probably the most urgently as Mayflash sticks suck, I find fighters downright unplayable on them.

I don't really care for any of the furniture, but I do love arcade flyers, and would like to put many more on the walls in the future.

And damn, that is an awesome set up, elvis!

I hate to be pedantic but there's a rather embarrassing typo in the topic title.

Oh, so you think typos are something to feel embarrased about? Image is everything, right? Even, and for hipsters especially, if it's regarding something utterly insignificant. No wonder you post on Select Button.

Banned.

When I hear of people playing modern games on 20-something-inch monitors, I think of the Game Boy Color. That's what those screen sizes sound to me like in 2018. I played on a 32-inch widescreen CRT that weighed as much as a small motorcycle in 2001, so the idea that people are playing on SMALLER screen sizes two decades later is laughable to me. Do y'all like videogames or what?

This is what y'all should be playing at in 2018:

The screen sizes y'all are using were considered small already in the late-'90s.

Imagine spending your whole lives watching movies on a TV, without ever having been to the cinema. That's what y'all guys are doing. You have no idea what you are missing out on.

And this is what David Lynch thinks of you and your tiny monitors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKiIroiCvZ0

Just sayin'.

Look out for my unreal gaming room to be unveiled soon on Patreon, in a special series of articles called "Hardware Porn: icycalm Edition". I'll show you what modern gaming looks like in there. Even the dude pictured above has nothing on my setup.
