Xbox Wire staff wrote:New Customizable Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Built for Competitive-Level Gamers

We heard from fans that they wanted more customization options and durability from their Xbox controller. After months of research and testing in our labs to ensure the highest level of quality, as well as conversations with competitive-level gamers in their homes, we’re excited to introduce the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller launching in October 2015. Built to meet the demands of our most dedicated and aspirational gamers, the new controller features professional-level customization to give fans game-changing accuracy and faster speed as well as extremely durable and comfortable construction.

The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller was built from the ground up to meet the rigorous demands of hardcore, competitive-level gamers on Xbox One and Windows 10. Whether you’re playing a first person shooter like Halo 5: Guardians, a platform adventure game like Ori and the Blind Forest, or Fable Legends on Windows 10, the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller gives you the option to adjust unique elements of the controller for better control, precision and comfort. Here are some of the innovative features that we added:

  • Fully customizable features. The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller comes packed with six thumbsticks of different shapes, sizes and heights, allowing you to discover configurations that can improve accuracy, speed and reach. Additionally there are two D-pad options—the new faceted D-pad enables more confident combo execution, while the traditional D-pad provides precise control to change weapons or call in a strike. We are working with our accessories partners to expand customization options even further and look forward to sharing more in the future.
  • Interchangeable paddles. The controller has four slots on the back for interchangeable paddles, allowing you to assign any of 14 different inputs to the paddles so you don’t have to take your thumbs off the thumbsticks to execute intricate jump, aim, and shoot combinations. Easily attach one or all of the paddles (no tools required), and configure the controller to what’s best for your gaming needs.
  • Further customization with the Xbox Accessories app. Available on Xbox One and Windows 10, the Xbox Accessories app will allow you to adjust button assignments, trigger min/max values, thumbstick sensitivities, and more. Assign any of 14 inputs to the ABXY buttons, paddles, D-pad, triggers and thumbstick clicks, so the controls are exactly the way you want them. Additionally, create up to 255 controller profiles in the app and have tailored settings for any game. You can load two profiles directly on the controller and instantly change between them with the built-in Profile Switch.
  • Hair Trigger Locks. With the flip of a switch, new Hair Trigger Locks allow you to fire quicker and save valuable time with each trigger pull. Hair Trigger Locks stop the trigger movement after the shot so you’re ready for the next one. Simply flip the switch again to get back to full-range trigger motion.
  • High-performance construction. Built to withstand hours of intense gameplay, the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller uses stainless steel for the thumbstick shafts, D-pads, and paddles as well as low-friction, reinforced rings around each thumbstick to minimize normal wear and tear and ensure a smooth rotation. The thumbstick and surrounding material are so durable that our testing results showed no detectable thumbstick wear even after 1 million thumbstick rotation cycles. The controller was also designed with comfort in mind. An enhanced rubberized diamond grip gives the controller a more substantial feel while providing more stability, allowing you to hold the controller with less effort. A soft-touch finish on the top case provides a luxurious feel and nonslip control.

We built the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller with professional-level and aspirational gamers in mind to ensure the controller is customizable to the way you want to play. We can’t wait for gamers to get their hands on the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller later this year so they can see firsthand how its game-changing design will help them play to their full potential.

Xbox One S review: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit ... e-s-review

Richard Leadbetter wrote:Everyone loves a 'slim' hardware revision - and generally speaking, it's second-gen console revisions that tend to be the most successful (third-gen models can sometimes take the cost-cutting too far). It's a chance to listen to consumer feedback, reduce the form factor and generally make for a much more living room-friendly machine. The Xbox One S succeeds in doing all of those things, but we have to give Microsoft kudos for using the opportunity to also add bonus, additional valuable functionality that considerably exceeds the original spec.

The 4K offering may be somewhat under-developed at the moment, but it's an interesting, genuinely useful addition for those that want it. Meanwhile, the GPU overclock is the sort of additional feature that isn't going to provide any kind of game-changing experience, but is likely to find appeal with a core gamer perhaps on the fence about making the upgrade. It would have been child's play for Microsoft to disable the higher clocks on non-HDR titles (in the same way that PlayStation Neo does when running vanilla PS4 games, based on the leaked docs), but instead it chose to allow the feature to work with everything.

Combine that with a fresh new look that clears out the final vestiges of Xbox One's disastrous set-top box aspirations and then factor in an improved version of an already impressive controller and the Xbox One S comes across as an excellent new hardware revision. Aside from being a touch louder, it's a substantial improvement over the original launch console in almost every way. It's still an Xbox One of course, so don't go in expecting a radically refreshed piece of hardware - but it may well be the best console revision we've seen to date.

Albert Penello, Senior Director, Xbox Console Marketing, wrote:Introducing the World’s Most Powerful Console: Xbox One X

E3 marks the world premiere of Xbox One X, the world’s most powerful console designed for immersive true 4K gaming, ultimate compatibility, and unrivaled craftsmanship. As the newest member of the Xbox One family of devices, Xbox One X will offer gamers premier console performance for $499 USD / 449 GBP / 499 EUR / 599 CAD/ 649 AUD and begins rolling out to all Xbox One markets starting Nov. 7. Every Xbox One X unit will come with a 1TB hard drive, a matching Xbox Wireless Controller, HDMI cable, power supply, a 1-month free Xbox Game Pass subscription and a 14-day free Xbox Live Gold membership.

Inspired by the sleek design elements of Xbox One S, now in black, Xbox One X is not only the most powerful console we’ve ever created, it’s also the smallest. Like the Xbox One S, it includes a 4K UHD Blu-ray player, built-in power supply, three USB 3.0 ports (one in the front and two in the back), and IR blaster. It can be placed horizontally or vertically with an optional stand. For those who already own an Xbox One S, all the cables you own will transfer over, with port locations designed to be an easy plug-and-play swap in your existing gaming setup.

Games play better on Xbox One X

With 40 percent more power than any other console, Xbox One X is the world’s most powerful console. Games play better on Xbox One X. It’s the first time we’ve engineered a system around today’s cutting-edge engines and the blockbuster titles you already love. With the 6-teraflop Scorpio engine, developers can realize their biggest worlds in vibrant 4K and in a superior format for 1080p screens. Built-in supersampling means more visible detail and smoother edges, and you’ll get into the action faster with more efficient loading times.

Xbox One X delivers immersive, true 4K gaming

Xbox One X is built for true 4K gaming, which combines 2160p frame buffers, High Dynamic Range and Wide Color Gamut into a pristine visual package. It also offers an immersive audio experience that puts you in the center of spatial sound. Your 4K experience includes recording game clips in 4K at 60 frames per second and 4K screenshots. At launch, we’ll be offering Xbox One X Enhanced versions of existing Xbox One games including Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Minecraft, Resident Evil 7, Final Fantasy 15, Rocket League, each upgraded to take advantage of Xbox One X’s additional performance. In addition, some of this year’s biggest blockbuster will be launching in true 4K including Forza Motorsport 7.

Xbox One X is fully compatible across the Xbox One family of devices

With the Xbox One family of devices, our focus is on hardware innovation without sacrificing compatibility. That’s why all existing Xbox One games, including Xbox Play Anywhere titles, Backward Compatible Xbox 360 games and accessories, will be compatible with Xbox One X. And those games will load faster and look and play better, on Xbox One X.

Fans can enjoy all the same benefits of Xbox Live on Xbox One X

Xbox Live is the most advanced multiplayer network and all its benefits extend to the Xbox One family of devices, including Xbox One X. Those include dedicated servers to maximize performance, speed and reliability, cross-platform integration with gamers on Xbox One and Windows 10 devices, as well as two to four free games each month with Xbox Live Gold.

It’s an incredibly exciting time for the industry and for our fans, and we’re looking forward to launching the world’s most powerful console, Xbox One X, starting this November.

Xbox All Access is real and a great deal
https://venturebeat.com/2018/08/27/xbox ... reat-deal/

Jeff Grubb wrote:“For no upfront cost and one low monthly price for 24 months, Xbox All Access gets you a new Xbox One S or Xbox One X, access to more than 100 great games through Xbox Game Pass, and online multiplayer with Xbox Live Gold,” Xbox product marketing boss Bogdan Bilan said. “That’s more than 100 all-you-can-play games — including highly-anticipated new Xbox One exclusives the day they’re released, plus more games added all the time on the fastest, most reliable gaming network and an Xbox One console.”

The Xbox One S plan starts at $22 per month, and the Xbox One X plan starts at $35. This is not a leasing program. Instead, it works a lot like how we purchase smartphones from T-Mobile or other major carriers. That monthly payment covers the cost of the Xbox One, which belongs to you. And then the rest of the money pays for the services.

Shadow is a much better offer. And you can cancel it anytime. True, you don't keep the hardware, but the upshot is that the hardware is automatically updated, and if you cancel your sub but return half a year later, you get the newer model.

Jez Corden wrote:The 'Xbox Maverick' console will be named 'Xbox One S All-Digital Edition,' preorders in April 2019

According to our sources, Microsoft's disc-less Xbox experiment is nearly ready for the prime time.

ImageIt might look a little like this.

First detailed by Brad Sams of Thurrott.com, Microsoft has been experimenting with a disc-less Xbox One S console codenamed Xbox Maverick, with a launch window thought to be around Q1 2019. According to our sources, we now know a little bit more about the timing and marketing name of this intriguing new console.

Microsoft is reportedly set to call the disc-less Maverick console the "Xbox One S All-Digital Edition," with preorders aiming for mid-April 2019 and with general availability coming in early May 2019. It looks as though it could be near-global simultaneous launch for almost all existing Xbox markets.

The disc-less Xbox One S would be a first for the company, offering fans the ability to ditch discs altogether and go all-in on digital game licenses. As Microsoft pushes for greater access to its game library via things like the Xbox Game Pass digital subscription and the incoming streaming service Project xCloud, dropping the disc drive from the "All-Digital Edition" should make it the cheapest Xbox console yet, although we have no word on pricing just yet or whether the console will see any design refinements beyond simply dropping the disc drive.

In addition to the disc-less Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, we've heard Microsoft may be gearing up to announce a Fortnite Edition console with a custom Fortnite design, rather than a simple game bundle. It's unclear whether the Fortnite console would be a regular S, an X, or a disc-less version at this time, but we'll keep you posted as soon as we know more.

As always with these sorts of rumors, take them with a pinch of salt until the official confirmation, as plans can and do change, but this is looking pretty solid right now. Losing the disc drive puts a limit on the amount of 4K content you can consume on Xbox, particularly outside of the USA where 4K digital video offerings are lacking compared to physical 4K Blu-ray discs. But going all-digital brings benefits like pre-loading of games, and instant refunds via the Microsoft Account page.

Whether or not the discless future will extend to the rumored next-gen Xbox Anaconda and Lockhart "Scarlett" range consoles remains to be seen, but if the All-Digital Edition proves successful, it may tip Microsoft's hand.
