[PS4] Hitokui no Oowashi Trico

EDIT: Formerly known as Trico.

Sequel to Ico:

I am starting to get really annoyed with trailers that do not give you the slightest indication of how the game plays -- especially for games of this kind, from supposedly ambitious studios which tout their innovative game mechanics. I mean if I know the game is going to be an FPS, whatever, pre-render away -- but this could play like a Tetris clone for all we know from that video.

In the deluxe Ico releases (I guess both the Japanese and European ones) there is a trailer for Nico, which would later become Wanda to Kyozou. Although the fact that a gigantic being is attacked by numerous Ico-like characters didn't comprise the final game's mechanics, it was similar enough.

So the most we can assume about how Trico plays is that this time around we'll be travelling around some ruins atop a legendary griffin.

Far more respectable because it is banal, formulaic, and in English. Thread title edited.

Starting? For years I've been tired of these silly and "flashy" trailers, only made for polygon lover people.

Most film directors don't have any control over their trailers. You'll get some of them that give away all the good jokes or plot points in an effort to sell the movie. Non-representative game trailers may have their plus points.

I like Valve's approach to promotion (that they have in theory, even if the games often get delayed by a year) where they only announce a game's release 3 months before release. That's more than enough time to build up anticipation rather than doing it too early.

Actually, the final Japanese title isn't that stupid. It's Hitokui no Oowashi Toriko (人喰いの大鷲トリコ, literally "The Giant Man-Eating Eagle Toriko"). Notice how Toriko is the Japanese pronunciation of Trico.

Thread title edited again. Note also that Wanda to Kyozou (Shadow of the Colossus) was codenamed "Nico", which is a play on "Second Ico" -- hence "Trico" I guess.

It seems the banal, formulaic English title for the game was deliberately made in the likeness of a Hollywood movie in order to better appeal to round-eyes (as was the case with the infamous American Ico cover), who, it seems, now represent four fifth parts of the home console market, or at least of the PlayStation 3 one.

The PS4 mention was a false alarm too, but there is some important new development worth mentioning: It's official: Derek Yu is finishing Trico on Game Maker.

http://kotaku.com/5934907/the-last-guar ... a-ps3-game

Brian Ashcraft wrote:Even though Sony recently "abandoned" its Last Guardian trademark, that means nothing. Work on the game, Sony and its creator say, continues. But does it continue to be for the PlayStation 3?

When asked if the game was going to be released on the PlayStation 4, Sony's Shuhei Yoshida insisted that the game is a PS3 title, telling Eurogamer, "The game is developed on PS3."

So what's the hold up? According to Yoshida, "We had the game playable. At one point we felt that it would be produced for a certain time period. That was the time we prematurely talked about the launch window. But it turned out the technical issues are much harder to solve. So the engineering team had to go back and re-do some of the work they had done."

Somewhere along the line, however, the game's designer, Fumito Ueda, left Sony as an employee. However, he is working still working on the title in a contracted freelance capacity. Western studios have been brought in to finish the title.

Forget hearing that this is still a PS3 game, it's good to hear that this is still, well, a game.

Check out Kotaku's "eyes on" impressions of The Last Guardian.

To All Interested Parties:

As some of you may have heard, I left Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Studio some time ago to pursue my creative passions. Nevertheless, I continue working on THE LAST GUARDIAN as a freelance contributor.

While it’s been a long time coming, THE LAST GUARDIAN remains under my creative supervision and is still in development by an incredibly talented team.

I should also mention that details regarding THE LAST GUARDIAN's release is solely decided by Sony Computer Entertainment, not myself. Please keep an eye out for their official announcement.

Moving forward, it is my intent to continue my involvement with THE LAST GUARDIAN project, as well as pursue new creative projects with a fresh perspective. As I rekindle my passions as a creator, I look forward to seeing where it will take me, and I deeply appreciate your support during this transition.

Seems this is a response to a lot of frustrated people asking him about when the hell the game is being released.

They obviously moved it over to PS4 and will be (re-)unveiling it shortly. What's funny is that that website is down now, due to being hammered by all the traffic no doubt.

Well, I can at least say that I sympathize with the guy, and everyone else who's in the same position as him, since putting out release dates for my books. There's nothing more annoying and counter-productive with the delay situation than having people ask you over and over again when they'll be out. It's like, I am already under intense pressure FROM MYSELF to finish them and make them available as early as possible, and the very last thing I need is pressure from other people. Every single email that asks this question aggravates the situation a little more, and makes it a tiny wheeny little bit harder for me to keep working, due to the miniscule amount of extra pressure and annoyance it creates. And when you add them all up, the extra pressure and annoyance can sometimes be enough to make you say fuck it, and take a break for a few days or even weeks. The best thing to do when you are waiting for something that is obviously being delayed because the creators are trying to live up to THEIR OWN exacting standards of quality is to SHUT THE FUCK UP and wait for it patiently to come out.

http://gematsu.com/2013/02/the-last-gua ... y-employee

Kenny Linder, a former employee of shuttered Sony UK studio Bigbig, has said that The Last Guardian, originally announced for PlayStation 3, is now a PlayStation 4 title.

“It’s PS4,” he said on NeoGAF. “It’s been PS4 for a long time now.”

Asked if it was planned for launch or launch window, he said, “I don’t know, but I know it’s been in development on Orbis for a long time now."

“Its platform has been questionable for nearly two years, but the last time it was restarted (it’s been restarted a number of times), it was moved to Orbis [the codename for PlayStation 4].”

The Last Guardian creative lead Fumito Ueda posted an update Wednesday on the game’s status. With the message posted a week before Sony’s PlayStation 4 reveal event on February 20, some have suggested it means we’ll see the game resurface as a PlayStation 4 title next week.

According to IGN, the game is now cancelled.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06/08/ ... -cancelled

While many at IGN have been eagerly hoping for the appearance of The Last Guardian at E3 this year, we won’t be seeing the game anymore. IGN has received a report this evening that “The Last Guardian is finally cancelled.” According to our sources, the information was disclosed in “Sony’s internal meeting last week.” Last March, Scott Rohde, Head of Software Product Development at Sony, told IGN The Last Guardian is still “absolutely in the mix at Sony Worldwide Studios.” The game was first revealed at E3 in 2009 with a projected release date of 2011. While 2011 didn’t see the release of the game, we did finally get a chance to see the game running in March of that year. In 2012 Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida confirmed the game was still in development, despite the withdrawal of the game’s executive producer, Yoshifusa Hayama, and the departure shortly after of Team ICO’s founder, Fumito Ueda.
