So the new philosophy site is here:

http://orgyofthewill.net/

The reading list has been moved here:

http://orgyofthewill.net/read/

And the new philosophy forum is here:

http://orgyofthewill.net/discuss/

And with this all philosophy discussion is gone from Insomnia, and this site is now 100% about videogames and videogame culture. Frontpage updates will resume once I have recovered from all the work that went into the new site, but please keep in mind that I have 2 sites to run now, on top of lol how many books, and a thousand other things and interests that I am pursuing in my life, so try to keep your expectations re: update frequency reasonable. The important point is that, when there IS an update, on EITHER site, it will be the last word on the matter at hand, and that I remain committed for the foreseeable future to maintaining both Insomnia and orgyofthewill.net as the number 1 sites in the world on videogames and philosophy respectively. And that's it for now. I hope that those of you who choose to take a look at the new site will have an instructive and enjoyable experience.

And one more thing: those of you who subscribe to the new site WILL need to use the same exact username they have here. I've already invested an untold number of hours getting to know several hundred of you here, I am NOT going to do this all over again because you decided that changing a few letters around will give you a chance to become a brand new person. Trust me: it won't. Just be a man and use the same username everywhere, as I've been doing since my first day on the internet. Leave the "restarts" and the "save-loading" shenanigans to the children and take your setbacks like a man.

lobote came up with a Dead Philosophers-style skit about me over on Orgy. This is the site for those who don't know it:

http://www.dead-philosophers.com/?p=1419

lobote wrote:Here was my idea for the icycalm version:

Panel 1: Shows Schopenhauer, Nietzsche and Baudrillard smoking behind a shed in Heaven (on right) and icycalm on left saying:

"Hi guys I did all your homework — I answered all the philosophy questions you didn't get round to finishing!"

Schopenhauer: "Thanks bro."

Panel 2: icycalm: "So can I hang with you guys?"

Schopenhauer: "Nah, you're not cool enough."

Panel 3: icycalm: "But I thought cool was an abstract concept subhumans were unable to define?"

Panel 4: Schopenhauer, Nietzsche and Baudrillard: "Nerd!"

END

If anyone can make it, post your attempt here. It's mostly copy-pasting images, as I understand it. I don't have anywhere to publish it, I don't think, apart from this thread and the Orgy forum, but if someone does a decent job I might send it to the Dead Philosophers guys for lols and tell them to keep it for publication in 20 years.

Maybe for the bikeshed backdrop "Gott ist tot!" would be grafittied on it.

Just letting people know that this is not my account:

https://www.facebook.com/AlexKierkegaard

It's some Serbian loser who got butthurt that I kicked him out of the site, and made a fake Facebook account in my name to make it appear as if I am endorsing his laughable attempts at philosophy. #sosad

This is from a thread on /lit/ about Orgy. I quote it extensively and discuss it in the Orgy forum, but I wanted to answer this one point here, where my answer would be more visible:

He lied about his height . . . he is shorter than 6'1''. Is there anything he didn't lie about?

I am 1.84m. That translates roughly to 6'1" as far as I know. That old passport takes the height from my national ID, which was made when I was 16 or something, and uses the same height. I am due to get a new passport soon, and I'll tell them to fix it. Then when some other loser who has nothing better to do with his life than try to read my emails hacks into my email account, y'all will be able to see it for yourselves.

By the way, the person accusing me of lying is the same who made a Facebook account in my name and updated if for 2 years before using it to promote his own writings as if I am recommending them (see post above)...

P.S. I have met Tim Rogers, and I am taller than him (I think he is 6ft tall). He has described me as a "fierce, commanding individual" in comments post on IC, and we don't even much like each other.

tl;dr: Serbian loser loses once again because he is a loser. And I don't even need to rummage through his passport to tell you that.

I decided to make a FB page, partly to get rid of that Serbian e-stalker's page by topping it on Google, and partly because you need it to do so many things today that I might as well get one. It's here:

https://www.facebook.com/people/Alex-Ki ... 9151871421

Add me and "like" me or whatever as much as you can, so that I can top that retard's page quickly. I'll be sure to add you back, or whatever the hell I have to do to make this shindig work.

Man, it took me several months to get my Steam account looking how I want to, and I don't relish the idea of going through a similar process here. And the page looks so lame right now. Fucking e-stalkers.

The Serbian guy had made a public person (author) page, these are the ones that people 'like', and they're intended to be used for marketing products, brands, artists, writers, and everything else. You do not need to add these accounts like you would a personal account, you only have to 'like' to follow them. You use them to share news, or any information, links, videos and posts from other official or community (fan) pages. Through them you can monitor things like statistics on reach, visitors, total amount of likes, etc. They're more similar to Twitter accounts in terms of functionality compared to personal accounts, except following goes one-way with pages; people who follow your page can see what you post in their feeds, but pages do not have feeds, only personal accounts do.

You've made a personal account, you need one in order to make official or community pages like a public person page, but they are more intended for private use between you and your friends, and you have many more options to limit your visibility (or not), show off your taste (or not), and all that online impression management that people use this site for.

If you would like to make an official public person page like the one the Serbian guy made, you can do that here:

I was wondering why I couldn't make my page look like his.

Is there any way to get control of his page from him?

Maybe you can appeal to Facebook support for transferring ownership of the account to you, or at least have it shut down.

Here are Facebook's guidelines for reporting fake accounts and pages:

https://www.facebook.com/help/167722253287296

Although I have no idea how long this process would take.

The Serbian has turned his Facebook page into a copy of Orgy of the Will, much like Lowell turned Learn to Counter into a copy of Insomnia:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Magnus-A ... 1593280289

He is basically to my philosophy what Lowell is to my game theory: icycalm's ape. If you have some moments to spare, I recommend scrolling through his inane dribble. You'll be rewarded with gems such as this:

No man prefers technology over nature. Only children do, because technology gives them the toys they can play with.

And this is the part that at least makes sense: most of it is gibberish (again, much like Lowell's stuff).

Meanwhile, he keeps using the impostor account to share his dribble as if I am recommending it, but at least ever since he started this (as opposed to merely quoting me) he has been losing likes, so who knows. Maybe he'll give up when he gets to zero.

His name is Miroslav Malesevic / mirosurabu from the TIGS forum.

https://rs.linkedin.com/in/mirosurabu

Apparently they got the internet recently in Serbia and he decided to quit making videogames with MS Paint and become a world historic philosopher on Facebook instead.

I think he and Lowell should collaborate and create "Orgy of Insomnia", a Geocities website about videogames and philosophy by "Napoleon Dostoevsky", a Serbian refugee who escaped to America and works at Walmart by day, while writing articles by night on why Mirror's Edge is a 2/5 game and the Eternal Recurrence is Christian. They'll be a sensation.
