So this is coming out on the 25th. Looks pretty damn sweet. Demo comes out tomorrow. Sucks it's only 30 minutes.

RE2make may be good, but is it the Dark Souls of survival horror? One Steam reviewer seems to think so, at least: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/765 ... ed/883710/

Now there is the hype, and then there are a few opinions like this: https://steamcommunity.com/id/Vulf/recommended/883710/

No really, it's okay. Nothing more, nothing less. RE2R is selling on its name alone. It's not being measured, and probably never will be measured, on the strength of its own merits, but rather the merits of the game on which it's based. But maybe you don't have the same kind of nostalgic love for RE2 Original that everybody else has. Maybe you never even played RE2 Original, and you want to know a little more about RE2R than just its name. So as such, I'll try to be as objective as I can.

There are 2 questions you're probably asking,

1: Does it capture the spirit of Resident Evil 2? No, actually. It really doesn't.

From forced stealth sections, to hacking power boxes. From combining gunpowder to create ammo without any tools, to its obvious set-pieces. From checkpoints and autosaving, to zombies that can take anywhere from 10 to 25 headshots to kill. From its cinematic cutscenes, to times when you'll be wandering around shooting the breeze with some friendly NPC's. From throwing hand grenades, to searching for more disposable melee weapons to put in your storage chest until the one you're carrying breaks. This game rarely feels like Resident Evil 2. If I had to compare it to something, I would say it feels more like Evil Within 1.

2: Can I recommend it? Yes, I most certainly can, although maybe not for the current price.

It's a polished, quality survival horror game with a great atmosphere. If you enjoyed Resident Evil 7 or Evil Within 1, you will most likely enjoy RE2R. There is very little RE2 or RE4 to be found here. It feels a whole lot more like RE7 running an RE2 mod, right down to the UI and reused assets, but it handles more like Evil Within 1 right down to the disposable melee weapons.

I admit, I may have found RE2R to be a little disappointing (A game that doesn't quite live up to its ungodly hype, who could have seen that coming), but it's still a solid game so long as you don't ask too many questions or think about it too much.

What is the truth?

If someone gifts it to me I will review it the same day (heard it only takes six hours to finish), otherwise I'll wait for a sale as I've been/will be spending a lot of money on survival-crafters on Steam these days, and those are my priority.

But regardless of the quality of the game, we should all be thankful to Capcom for finally learning how to do it:
