New Crackdown rumored for Xbox One

Speaking to IGN at E3, Microsoft Game Studios vice president Phil Spencer addressed the absence of cult-favorite franchise Crackdown at both its May 21 Xbox One reveal event and at the company’s E3 press briefing.

“Oh… Crackdown is one of my favorite games, and not just because it’s a Microsoft first-party game,” he told IGN. “I have a lot of love for that franchise. The homage to Crackdown in the [May 21 event] reveal screenshots was… I know there was some, like, ‘Did we accidentally sneak that…?’ It wasn’t accidental. Definitely.”

Hmm...

When pressed if the nod was just an Easter egg, Spencer did nothing to extinguish fan hope that the series may return on Xbox One. “No, I don’t think Crackdown is dead at all,” he said. “It’s a franchise that’s still close to me. I think there’s a lot of room, especially… For me, the natural progression for a game like Crackdown – and you see this showing up on our stage – is in these living, open worlds that live in the cloud.”

Couldn't really find any pics worth posting besides these, and even these are from the trailer, I think. Very little info on this game around, and people are speculating it's been cancelled. Still, the destructible city looks cool, so I am hoping it'll pull through.

So it's on Windows too.

It's good to see a good actor like Crews in a videogame. He makes the ridiculous stuff they make him do seem cool. But the game looks as janky as the first one, and not quite current-gen. At least it seems to have 4P co-op, so it should be fun enough for a quick runthrough.

The 5v5 destructible arena VSMP mode:

It's a cool idea, but instead of taking place in an X-Men-like Danger Room I would have preferred a city that gets flattened. The arena they show seems cheap.

And the release date has been moved forward a bit to February 15.

Read icy's review of Crackdown and you'll pretty much have a review of Crackdown 3. There's some good stuff here like the movement system and Terry Crews, but the enjoyment from these things is shortlived when you see the nonexistent level/encounter design and the cutscenes past the introduction. Like the first game on the highest difficulty, the best way to get through things is to just cheese your way through exploiting the dumb AI since your movelist isn't that effective and all enemies are bullet sponges. Even worse, co-op is back down to two players from the second game's four. It's like you're playing the first game again, but at least it's a new map. They must have spent all their money getting Terry Crews to do the first cutscene and advertise the game. I am sure the co-op experience will be a bit better, as it was with the previous games.
