Spider-Man PS4 (Working title)

E3 Reveal Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLm1A2-Fr7s

http://www.insomniacgames.com/games/spider-man-ps4/

Insomniac Games wrote:Starring the world’s most iconic Super Hero, Spider-Man PS4 (working title) features the acrobatic abilities, improvisation and web-slinging that the wall-crawler is famous for, while also introducing elements never-before-seen in a Spider-Man game. From traversing with parkour and utilizing the environment, to new combat and blockbuster set pieces, it’s Spider-Man unlike any you’ve played before.

Marvel and Insomniac Games have teamed up to create a brand-new and authentic Spider-Man story. This isn’t the Spider-Man you’ve met before, or seen in a movie. This is an experienced Peter Parker who’s more masterful at fighting big crime in New York City. At the same time he’s struggling to balance his chaotic personal life and career while the fate of nine million New Yorkers rests upon his shoulders.

Nirolak wrote:So I'm not exactly calling this the Spider-Man E3 info thread since, well, there's presumably a lot that isn't covered here, but I noticed a few things in interviews.

  • The game is singleplayer only.
  • The game is mostly open world, though there are some cinematic linear segments.
  • The open world is 4-6 times the size of Sunset Overdive.
  • You won't be killing anyone in the game.
  • There will be a lot of gameplay and story segments where you play as Peter Parker going about his day instead of Spider-Man. They say it will actually focus as much on Peter as it does on Spider-Man, but I don't know if that statement just applies to the story, or to the gameplay segments as well.
  • The mission from the gameplay demo will be a bit different in the final version. For example, they mention you save a lot more people in the actual game, and there are actually failure states, but for the purposes of the demo, they changed things up a bit.
  • They note that Spider-Man is 23 in the game, and has been Spider-Man for eight years, so he's pretty accomplished, though as you might have noticed in the trailer, far from 100% confident in himself.
  • They confirm that Miles Morales was the guy at the end of the trailer. They won't say if he's playable, but they mentioned he's there because they want to show this is a different kind of Spider-Man story.
  • They also note that Miles' role is much bigger than a cameo.
  • Marvel noted that they want their games to help develop their less well known characters as well, and Insomniac mentioned that Miles' inclusion was also part of this initiative. Marvel had previously noted that they view diversity in gaming as extremely important, so there's that factor as well.
  • There will also be villains beyond Mr. Negative and Kingpin.
  • They talk a bit more about the gadgets and how you can use things like tripwires on two people instead of just traditionally. They're trying to have a lot of combat options.
  • In case it wasn't obvious, this is not tied to any existing Spider-Man story.
  • For the most neurotic fans, Insomniac assures that the white Spider-Man symbol is meaningful and has a purpose that's explained in game.
  • They also note that the web swinging isn't normally QTE based, but that they use QTEs for cinematic moments.

How Web Swinging Works In Spider-Man

The video in that link is must-watch. You've never seen anything like that. Insomniac is finally becoming a top-notch studio.

Gameplay Launch Trailer | PS4

I don't think there's any "gameplay" in this trailer, but regardless, it looks good enough to be a movie. It looks more exciting than the two Amazing films even.

I've been reading some lukewarm reviews by actual gamers (i.e. not by journalists), about the open world being rather dead, with crappy side-missions, etc., and ratings of 4/5 or even 3/5 or 2/5, but then I look at the combat in recoil's streams [ > ], and it looks like the best third-person combat since Bayonetta. I just don't see how a game with such combat could fuck up its other aspects so badly that it would end up deserving anything less than 5/5 as a whole—4/5 at worst. And that's without even touching the angle of the protagonist's incredible character design, and playing a game that makes you feel like Spider-Man.

Also, the comparisons of this game's combat to the Arkham games is laughable. It's like comparing The Bouncer's combat to Bayonetta's (though I have only played a bit of Arkham Asylum, so maybe the complexity increases in the sequels?)

Also, just to be clear, I haven't played the game yet. But I had in mind the opening paragraph for a review, and started writing it down in my Drafts section on Patreon, and then accidentally hit the "Publish" button, and 55 people received it in their inboxes before I had time to delete it. I do plan to play it this month at some point, however, so stay tuned for more on what I think about it.

Spider-Man PS4 version 1.16 update now available, adds Far From Home 'Upgraded' and 'Stealth' suits
https://gematsu.com/2019/07/spider-man- ... alth-suits

Image

I don't get the point of adding every suit ever to this game? Why not leave some for sequels? It just seems autistic to me. It even goes against the spirit of comics in general, where a change of suit is a rare event meant to signal an important change either in the life of the hero, or in the direction of the property (e.g. new comic title, or annual issue, or crossover plotline etc.)

Enough with the autism, Insomniac. Just add more real content or get to work on the sequel.
