3D Realms R.I.P.

I for one am rather dissapointed it didn't turn out well. All joking aside, DN3D still has lots of entertaining qualities we haven't seen turn up in modern FPS games.

Here's a link to some commentary from a former 3D Realms employee that goes some way toward explaining how they ran out of money. It seems the 2001 trailer wasn't actually game footage.

Here's another bizarre link about 'the chair' story. This one looks a bit too ridiculous to be true.

Where is the link that says the game was cancelled?

Shacknews reports that the developer, 3D Realms, has shut down. Other than that there is no official word that Duke Nukem Forever has been canceled.

Wired has a story on the quagmire known as Duke Nukem Forever. They didn't get to interview George Broussard for the article, but they did get former members of his staff to contribute anonymously. It's anything but a flattering portrayal - Broussard is written as a comically inept developer.

I will always remember them, not for Duke Nukem, or Commander Keen, or even Wolfenstein 3D; but for Death Rally, my favorite game from the golden days of shareware.

Speaking of which, Death Rally is available for free on Remedy's website.

Remedy Entertainment wrote:In 2009, Remedy is proud to announce the free re-release, Death Rally for Windows. The original game, ported to run on modern PCs.
