Are these fucking "ReBirth" games even being made in Japan?

Gradius ReBirth and Contra ReBirth were developed by Japanese company M2.

Their work includes emulated versions of Sega games on the PS2 (Sega Ages series) and the Wii Virtual Console (Master System, Mega Drive and Arcade). Other emulations they have done can be found on the Nintendo DS collections of Konami and Namco games.

They also made Salamander Portable and TwinBee Portable for the PSP and Otomedius G for the Xbox 360.

This is great news. About time someone showed IGA how to make a Castlevania game.

They were also behind Fantasy Zone II DX, which is basically a new Fantasy Zone game made for the Sega Ages collection. I can't say how it compares to the two released ReBirth games.

Looks really good. Wish I had my JP Wii with me at the moment.

Actually, I am wondering about the resolution. The screens are clearly low-res, so are we going to be able to get a low-res signal (presumably 240p) out of the game? How was it with the previous ReBirth titles?

M2 also ported the complete collections of Monster World and Phantasy Star. Both of them supported true 240p video output, so I assume their ReBirth titles should also support it.

Very conservative, graphically. I mean it looks adequately good, but still. The designers should be ashamed to release a Wii game that looks worse than its GBA and DS predecessors.
